Abstract

The package to be wrapped is moved during a first step towards a foil section which is extended under tension transversely relative to the direction of movement of the package. During a further course of movement of the package the aforementioned foil section is applied to three sides around the package in a substantially U-shape. Subsequently, a loop is formed from the web-like foil by entraining means which act on the web-like foil. The two runs of the loop are releasably held at their ends by related holding means. These two loop runs of the foil are separated from each other using a cutting knife. The foil section thus produced, which runs along the rear side of the package, has a length which is greater than the height of the package. An end section of this foil section of greater length and which protrudes past the package is now displaced towards and against the underside of the package. A wrapping material preferably consisting of a polyvinylidene chloride foil having self-adhesive properties is used as the web-like foil.

Description

The present invention relates to a method and a device for wrapping cuboid, compressible objects, in particular packages of flat products lying on top of one another, for example printed products, with a web-shaped wrapping material according to the preamble of claim 1 and claim 9.

From DE-A-1 761 851 a method and a device of this type are known, in which or in which the package to be packaged is moved from stacked magazines through a film curtain running transversely to its path of movement. The heat-sealable and heat-shrinkable packaging film is taken along and applied to the front and the base of the package. Only when the material web is subsequently guided along the rear side of the package, which takes place when the latter is at a standstill, does the film also come to rest on the surface of the package. This means that the film is placed loosely around the package. However, this is in no way disadvantageous since the film is then wrapped around the package by heat shrinking. This known solution now has the disadvantage of considerable design effort and also makes it necessary to use relatively thick, heat-weldable and heat-shrinkable films.

The present invention is based on the object of providing a method and a device of the type mentioned at the outset which, while avoiding heat shrinkage, allows compressible objects to be wrapped around in a simple, rapid and cost-effective manner.

This object is achieved by the features of the characterizing part of claim 1 and claim 9.

Because the object to be wrapped is pressed together during the wrapping process and, moreover, the material web held at the free end is placed snugly around the compressed object, a very tight wrapping of the object is possible without heat shrinkage, since after wrapping the object relaxes, which leads to The consequence of this is that the material web section which already surrounds the latter and whose ends are connected to one another is placed under an even greater tensile stress. Since neither heat welding nor heat shrinking is absolutely necessary, wrapping materials can be used whose procurement price is lower than that of weldable and shrinkable materials.

With the method according to the invention and the device according to the invention, a high work output is possible because of the simplicity of the wrapping process, which has only a few steps.

The wrapping device shown in FIGS. 1-5 has a frame 1 which carries the various components. On the inlet side of the device, a belt conveyor 2 is mounted in the frame 1, which can be driven in the direction of arrow A. A further belt conveyor 3 is arranged above this first belt conveyor 2 and can be raised and lowered in the direction of arrow C by means of a lifting device 4. The conveying direction B of the second belt conveyor 3 runs parallel to the conveying direction A of the first belt conveyor 2. Seen in this conveying direction A behind the first belt conveyor 2, a support table 5 is provided at a distance with a belt conveyor 6, the height of which is aligned with the first belt conveyor 2 and which can be driven in opposite directions D and D '(FIGS. 4 and 5). The support table 5 is supported on a rotary mechanism 7, which enables the support table 5 to be rotated about its vertical axis 5a. A further belt conveyor 8 is arranged above the support table 5, which can be driven in the direction of arrow E and can be raised and lowered in the direction of arrow F by means of a lifting device 9. This belt conveyor 8 is located essentially at the same height as the upstream belt conveyor 3. On the outlet side of the device, a belt conveyor designated by 10 is supported on the frame 1, which belt drive is driven in the direction of arrow G and which is aligned with the belt conveyors 2 and 6 . These three belt conveyors 2, 6 and 10 define the path of movement of the object to be wrapped in a manner to be described.

Above this movement path of the object to be wrapped, a supply roll 11 is mounted, on which a web 12 of a wrapping material is wound. In the present case, this wrapping material is a plastic film with self-adhesive properties, e.g. B. a polyvinyli denchloride film, as it is commercially available under the name Saran. This film 12 is guided by the supply roll 11 via a guide roll 13 and a deflection roll 14. As shown in FIG. 1 in particular, the film section 15 located behind this deflection roller 14 runs essentially in a vertical direction, ie transversely to the movement path of the object to be wrapped. This film section 15 is held releasably in the region of its free end 15a by means of a stationary arrangement 16. This holding arrangement 16 has one or more needles 16a which can be displaced in the direction of its longitudinal axis and penetrate the film section 15 in the active position. The film section 15 is held tensioned between the deflection roller 14 and the retaining arrangement 16. On opposite sides of the support table 5 with respect to the axis of rotation 5a, two retaining arrangements 17 and 18 are also attached to the latter, which correspond to the retaining arrangement 16 in terms of construction and also have two or more needles 17a and 18a which can be displaced in the direction of their longitudinal axis. In Fig. 1 these needles 17a, 18a are shown in their retracted rest position. As will be explained later, in each rest position of the support table 5 one of the two holding arrangements 17 or 18 is opposite the holding arrangement 16 at a distance.

Below and between the opposing holding arrangements 16 and 17 there is a separating device 19 which has a separating knife 19a which can be raised and lowered in the direction of the arrow H. In the space between the belt conveyors 2 and 6 and 3 and 8 and viewed in the direction of conveyance A, behind the film section 15, two rod-shaped driver elements 20 are arranged, which are connected at their ends to drive elements 21 which are only shown schematically. The latter are guided over deflection rollers 22 and 23, one of which is driven. The driver elements 20 move in the vertical direction between an upper end position, which is shown in FIGS. 1, 2, 4 and 5, and a lower end position (FIG. 3), in which they are below the two opposing retaining arrangements 16 and 17 and adjacent to the separator 19.

Mit 24 ist in den Fig. der zu umwickelnde Gegenstand bezeichnet, der im vorliegenden Fall ein Paket von aufeinanderliegenden Druckprodukten P ist.24 in the figures denotes the object to be wrapped, which in the present case is a packet of printed products P lying on top of one another.

The wrapping of the printed product package 24 now proceeds as follows:
  • By lifting and lowering the upper belt conveyor 3 on the inlet side in the direction of arrow C, this belt conveyor 3 is adjusted in height to the height of the package 24 to be wrapped. This package 24 is then introduced between the belt conveyors 2 and 3. By slightly lowering the belt conveyor 3, pressure is exerted on the package 24, by means of which the printed products P are pressed together. The belt conveyor 8 is adjusted by adjusting it in the direction of arrow F to the height of the upstream belt conveyor 3. By means of the belt conveyors 2 and 3 driven in the direction of the arrows A and B, the package 24 is now moved against the film section 15 spanned transversely to its movement path. After the front face 24a of the package 24 strikes the film section 15, the latter is taken along. In the course of the further movement of the parcel 24, during which the parcel 24 comes between the belt conveyors 6 and 8, a film section, designated 12 'in FIG . In order to enable such application, the film end 15a is released by the holding arrangement 16 at a suitable time, while film material is drawn off from the supply roll 11. When this film 12 is pulled off, it is ensured that the film section 12 ′ is under tension so that it can fit snugly against the package 24.

If the package 24 surrounded on three sides by the film section 12 'has reached its position shown in FIG. 2, the drive of the belt conveyors 6 and 8 is stopped. Now the driver elements 20 are moved from their upper end position (FIG. 2) to their lower end position (FIG. 3). As can be seen from FIG. 2, these driver elements 20 are in their upper end position above the film section running on the top 24d of the package 24, so that the film 12 is carried along when the driver elements 20 move downward. In this case, while the film 12 is being unwound from the supply reel 11, a loop 25 is formed, as shown in FIG. 3. The two film sections 15 'and 26 forming this loop 25 are held in the region of their ends by the holding arrangement 16 and by the holding arrangement 17, respectively. These two film sections 15 'and 26 are then separated from one another by means of the separating knife 19a. The film section 15 'stretched between the deflection roller 14 and the retaining arrangement 16 now corresponds to the film section designated by 15 in FIG. 1. The film section 26 running on the rear side 24b of the package 24 is longer than the height of the package 24 by the end section denoted by 26a. As mentioned, this end section 26a is held by the retaining arrangement 17.

After separating the two film sections 15 'and 26, the driver elements 20 are moved back into their upper end position. As can be seen from FIG. 3, in the meantime the belt conveyor 3 has also been raised again somewhat, so that the two belt conveyors 2 and 3 are again ready to receive a new package 24.

As can be seen from the preceding explanations, is thus at the same time as the film section 26 is guided along the The rear side 24b of the package is again stretched with a film curtain 15 'which is intended to wrap around the subsequent package 24 in a U-shape in the manner described.

In a next step, after the belt conveyor 8 has been slightly raised, the support table 5 is rotated through its rotary mechanism 7 by 180 ° about its axis 5a. In Fig. 4 the support table 5 is shown in its position after rotation. In this position, the belt conveyor 8 is lowered onto the package 24 again. Now the two belt conveyors 6 and 8 are driven in the direction of the arrows D 'and E, whereby the package 24 is moved forward in the direction of these arrows D', E against the belt conveyor 10 on the outlet side. In the course of this movement, the film section 26 lies against the leading side 24b of the package 24, which was originally the rear side, while the protruding end section 26a of this film section 26 released by the retaining arrangement 17 is folded against the standing surface 24c of the package 24. This folded end section 26a comes into contact with the film section designated 12a "in FIG. 5, which was placed on this standing surface 24c when the film section 15 was applied in a U-shape. As a result of the self-adhesive properties of the wrapping film 12, the two come into contact with one another Foil sections 26a and 12a "a releasable but retaining connection. Since the two overlapping film sections 26a and 12a "are loaded by the weight of the package, unintentional loosening of the film section 12" wrapping around the package 24 is prevented (FIG. 5). As mentioned, the package 24 is pressed together by the belt conveyors 3 and 8 during the wrapping process. As soon as this pressing effect is no longer present, the printed products P are relaxed, which has the consequence that the height of the package 24 becomes somewhat larger. The result of this is that the film section 12 ″ can fit onto the package 24 even more securely.

The package 24 wrapped with the film section 12 "is now transferred by the belt conveyor 10 to a removal conveyor which takes the package 24 to a further processing point. During this further transport, the printed products P wrapped in the film section 12" cannot fall apart. In addition, these printed products P are protected by this film section 12 ″. If required, the finished package 24 can still be tied up.

The embodiment shown in FIGS. 6-15 corresponds both in terms of structure and effectiveness in many parts to the embodiment according to FIGS. 1-5. For this reason, the same reference numbers are used in FIGS. 6-15 for corresponding components as in FIGS. 1-5. The structure and the mode of operation of this second embodiment are described below only with regard to the differences from the first embodiment.

In contrast to the embodiment according to FIGS. 1-5, in this second embodiment the support table 5 cannot be rotated but can be raised and lowered in the direction of arrow I by means of a lifting mechanism 27. Furthermore, in this embodiment, two U-shaped support elements 28 and 29 are provided, which are arranged on both sides of the movement path of the package 24 (FIG. 13). Each of these two support elements 28 and 29 is pivotable about an axis 30 and 31 running parallel to the direction of movement of the object 24 and points at it. Axes 30, 31 opposite end on an angled support part 28a and 29a. As shown in FIGS. 13-15, the belt conveyor 6 is less wide than the package 24.

In this second embodiment, two rod-shaped turning elements 32 and 33 are also present, which extend transversely to the movement path of the package 24 and which are connected at their ends to drive elements 34, 34 '. The latter can be driven in a manner not shown, so that the turning elements 32, 33 are moved in the direction of arrow K along a closed orbit. In their rest position, the impact elements 32 and 33 lie opposite one another as shown in FIGS. 6-8 and 10-12.

As a comparison of FIGS. 6-8 with FIGS. 1-3 shows, the first step of the wrapping process, namely the U-shaped application of the material web section 15 on three sides of the package 24, is exactly the same in both embodiments. In contrast, the projecting end section 26a of the film section 26 is concealed under the package 24 in the second embodiment differently than in the first embodiment. This omission of the end section 26a is now explained in more detail below.

Das andere Einschlagelement 33 ist nun für das Unterschlagen des überstehenden Endabschnittes 26a beim nächsten Paket 24 bereit.7 and 13, the support elements 28 and 29 are pivoted away from the package 24 in their waiting position. This means that in this waiting position the support parts 28a, 29a do not engage under the package 24. During the formation of the loop 25, the support elements 28, 29 are now pivoted into their operative position, in which the support parts 28a, 29a come to rest below the package 24. As soon as the two film sections 15 'and 26 have been separated from one another by means of the separating knife 19a, the support table 5 is lowered in the direction of the arrow I (FIG. 9). Here, the package 24 comes to rest with its base 24c on the support part 28a, 29a of the support elements 28, 29 in their operative position. In this way, an intermediate space 35 is formed between the package 24 and the support table 5, ie the belt conveyor 6. At the same time, the impact elements 32 and 33 are set in motion in the direction of the arrow K. As shown in FIG. 9, the impact element 32 acts on the projecting end section 26a of the film section 26. While moving on of this impact element 32 through the intermediate space 35, this projecting end section 26a, which in the meantime has been released by the holding arrangement 17, is placed under the package 24. As can be seen from FIGS. 10 and 14, the support parts 28a, 29a of the support elements 28, 29 come to lie between the package 24 and the folded end section 26a. As soon as the impact element 32 has left the intermediate space 35, these impact elements 32, 33 are stopped. The other wrapping element 33 is now ready for embossing the protruding end section 26a in the next package 24.

Now the support table 5 is raised again by means of the lifting mechanism 27, so that the package 24 comes to rest on the belt conveyor 6 (FIGS. 11 and 15). The two overlapping ends 26a and 12a "of the film section 12" surrounding the package 24 are pressed together. By pivoting the support elements 28 and 29 to the side, their support parts 28a, 29a are pulled away from the package 24. This pulling away of the support parts 28a, 29a "arranged between the film end sections 26a and 12a" can be carried out without difficulty since, as already mentioned, the two film end sections 26a and 12a "by the belt conveyor 6, the dead weight of the package 24 and that exerted by the overhead belt conveyor 8 Press force are held together.

By driving the belt conveyors 6 and 8 in the direction of the arrows D and E, the completely wrapped package 24 is then transferred to the outlet-side belt conveyor 10, as shown in FIG. 12, which corresponds to FIG. 5.

The embodiment according to FIGS. 6-15 has the advantage over the embodiment according to FIGS. 1-5 that the winding cycle takes less time due to the absence of a rotary movement of the support table 5, which enables a higher work output.

It goes without saying that both embodiments can be designed in different parts differently than as shown and described. For example, it can be expedient to hold the ends of the film sections 15 'and 26a in a manner other than with needles 16a, 17a, 18a, for example by means of negative pressure.

Although a polyvinylidene chloride film (Saran) is particularly suitable as a wrapping material because of its self-adhesive properties, it is of course also possible to use other materials, i. H. e.g. B. in addition to other plastic films also paper webs. When using such materials, it is u. However, it may be necessary to ensure by gluing or other suitable means that the overlapping end sections 26a, 12a "are connected to one another.

It is understood that the described devices can also be used to wrap objects other than packages of printed products lying one on top of the other.
