La libération du matériau d'extinction - par ex. de l'eau, de la poudre minérale incombustible ou de la poussière - a lieu dans le cas d'une explosion par la destruction des récipients sous l'action directe de la pression et/ou de l'onde de chaleur, ou par la pression et/ou par des détecteurs de rayonnement faisant détoner des charges explosives et/ou par des dispositifs mécaniques appropriés.
