In der Praxis ist es deswegen üblich, daß am Rand der Stoffbahn ein kleiner Einschnitt gemacht wird und daß dann der abzutrennende Stoffabschnitt von der restlichen Stoffbahn abgerissen wird. Apparatus for separating a section from a web in parallel with the weft threads thereof, the apparatus having a fixed holding device (4, 5) comprising a table with associated clamps (4, 5; 7, 8) for clamping an edge of the web (19) which is to be divided, and having a driven carriage (IS), comprising at least one abutment member (16 or 17) for dividing the web (19) and for guiding the separated edges of the section (18) on the one hand and of the remaining web (19) on the other hand, characterised in that the at least one abutment member comprises two adjacent rollers (16, 17), the rollers (16, 17) being formed as double cone rollers (diabolo rollers), the smallest cross sections thereof being coplanar with the surface of the table.
