- Different outputs of the circuit 17 further supply three drive mechanisms designated by 18, 19 and 20. These three mechanisms are mounted in a fixed frame and arranged so as to drive the needles 10, 12 and 14 respectively described above. The constitution of these mechanisms will be described below in more detail.
- the movement of the chronograph watch described comprises a drive mechanism 21 which is placed in the center of the housing 1. It is a conventional stepping motor which drives a gear train itself comprising a timer wheel, a minute wheel, and a hours. These last two wheels are coaxial and have cannons engaged one inside the other. These cross the dial 4 and carry the hands 5 and 6 which move above the marks 7.
- Fig. 3 shows diagrammatically, but with a little more detail, the drive mechanism 18.
- the motor proper comprises a coil 22 mounted on an elongated core 23 whose ends form lateral tabs 23a and 23b connected to pole pieces 24 and 25 which embrace a rotor 26 fitted with a pinion 27.
- the motor is shown here schematically.
- the rotor 26 can make a half-turn at each step or turn by a predetermined angle but less than 180.
- the pinion 27 drives a gear made up of two elements 28 and 29 engaged with each other so as to drive a central shaft 30 which carries the needle 10.
- the mechanisms 19 and 20 are constituted in exactly the same way as the mechanism 18. Their operation is determined by the frequency of the signals feeding the coil 22, this frequency being supplied by the output of the circuit 17 to which the coil is connected.
- FIG. 2 there is shown diagrammatically four push button switches 31, one of the contacts of which is connected to an input of the circuit 17.
- One of these push buttons controls the engagement of the counters. These will be started simultaneously and will thus make it possible to count hundredths of seconds, seconds, minutes and hours up to a totalization value which can be set at will.
