Abstract

A stop watch (Figure 1) comprises a source (22) Figure 3 of first and second clock pulses, a switch operated circuit (23) for producing instruction signals for starting, stopping and re-setting a time measurement operation; a first drive controlling circuit (29) for producing from the first clock pulses first drive pulses which are started and stopped by the instruction signals; a second drive controlling circuit (31) for producing from the second clock pulses second drive pulses which are started and stopped by the instruction signals; and a respective stepping motor in each of display mechanisms (13) and (16) of which one motor is driven by the first drive pulses to drive via a gear train a hand 8 to indicate on a first time unit scale (5) e.g. marked in seconds, and the other is driven by the second drive pulses to drive another hand (10) via a gear train to indicate on a time scale (6) marked in units which are sub-multiples of those in the first scale, eg in 1/100 -seconds. The first motor also drives a minutes hand 9 via gears. <IMAGE>
