Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a locking device for ski binding.
  • the locking device which is the subject of the present invention essentially comprises two movable locking members in mutual support, at least one of which is constituted by a lever articulated around an axis, subjected to a reversal torque on the part of the other member, the bearing surfaces between the two members being arranged in such a way that the geometric result of the bearing force of the two surfaces against each other (normal to these surfaces), exerting said torque of overturning on the lever and of the friction force (tangent to these surfaces), generated by said bearing force passes through the axis of articulation of the lever so that the two movable members remain in a stable position and in case release of the locking device from elements of the electronic circuit tend to separate the bearing surfaces of the two movable members. Consequently, the geometric result of the two forces exerts on the lever a zero torque. It therefore takes very little effort and, correspondingly, reduced energy to cause unlocking.
  • the ski binding shown in FIG. 1 is a heel piece intended to cooperate with the heel of the ski boot (shown in strong phantom) to retain it normally applied to the ski.
  • It comprises a base plate 1 fixed by screws not shown on the surface of the ski 2, a cover or protective casing 3, a gripper-heel member 4, a locking device 5 and an electromagnet 6.
  • the gripper-heel member 4 is articulated around a transverse axis 7 carried by the housing 3. It has an extension or locking arm 8 which extends towards the rear of the ski inside the housing 3, and has an inclined surface 9 whose role will be explained later.
  • the lever 11 has an inclined surface 12 capable of being applied against the surface 9 of the arm 8 as well as a projection 13 facing the rear of the ski.
  • the lever 15 assumes the shape of an L, the horizontal branch 16 of which is in support by means of a roller 17 against the projection 13, while its vertical branch 18 is in abutment against the control rod 19 of the electromagnet 6.
  • a tension spring 22, of low stiffness, hung on the bottom of the housing 3 acts on the lever 15 to apply it against the electromagnet rod 19 (arrow G).
  • the operation of the locking device is as follows: in the normal skiing position the heel grip 4 keeps the rear of the ski boot applied against a part 1a of the plate 1 forming the heel support.
  • the heel grip 4 is immobilized in its shoe retaining position by means of the locking levers 11 and 15 which occupy the locked position shown in FIG. 1.
  • the trigger signal supplied to the electromagnet when the traction force T ( Figure 1) exerted by the shoe on the heel grip 4 becomes dangerous, causes the displacement of the control rod 19 ( Figure 2).
  • FIG. 3 shows, on a larger scale, the locking lever 11.
  • the area of mutual support between the surfaces 9 and 12 has been assimilated to a point A.
  • the vertical tensile force 1 s' exerting on the heel grip 4 generates at point A a force P whose amplitude is proportional to T and whose direction is normal to the surface 12.
  • the resulting force R of A and F therefore forms an angle p with the normal to the bearing surfaces 9, 12.
  • the straight line joining the support zone (assimilated to point A) to the pivot axis 10 of the lever 11 also forms the angle ⁇ with the normal to the support surfaces 9, 12. It therefore follows that the moment exerted by the force R on the lever 11 is zero and that the unlocking control can be obtained by means of an extremely low energy.
  • the parasitic moment exerted on the lever 11 is zero, the parasitic friction exerted between the projection 13 and the roller 17 of the lever 15 is also zero so that during the triggering the electromagnet n 'has to overcome that the efforts due to the small springs 20 and 22 whose force is negligible.
  • This cam is mounted on a rotary axis disposed transversely to the housing 3 between the levers 11 and 15. The cam is arranged so that its rotation in the appropriate direction causes the levers 11,15 to pivot from their position in FIG. 2 to their locked position of figure 1.
  • the locking device according to the invention could also be adapted to a front stop releasing the boot laterally in the event of excessive torsional forces or to a multidirectional attachment, for example of the ball-and-socket type, suitable for release the shoe both vertically and laterally. This adaptation is possible by minor modifications, within the reach of those skilled in the art.
