Definitions
- the invention relates to a device for the metered delivery of an active ingredient from a storage container into a surrounding liquid, the level of which temporarily rises and falls, according to the preamble of claim 1.
- Such devices are used e.g. in toilet cisterns to add any disinfectants, cleaning agents or deodorants to the flushing water.
- the invention is intended to improve a metering device of the type defined in the preamble of claim 1 in such a way that it corresponds to the requirements mentioned at the outset.
- Another object of the invention is to achieve this in a structurally simple and inexpensive manner.
- the device according to the invention is characterized by the features of claim 1. Advantageous embodiments of the device according to the invention are described in the dependent claims.
- the dispensing control unit consists of a cup-like collecting chamber enclosing the dosing unit with an overflow pipe located in the bottom thereof, which in turn forms a siphon together with a cup which is open at the bottom and surrounds the pipe.
- this collecting chamber together with the siphon means that the active ingredient is only released into the last remaining part of the flushing water when the cistern is emptied.
- a similar siphon is already known for the active substance dosing device for toilet bowls described in published FR patent application 2 424 374, but it serves a completely different purpose there.
- this known metering device is not intended for arrangement in the cistern, but rather for mounting directly in the toilet bowl. It contains an active ingredient in solid form, which dissolves in the rinsing water overflowing during the rinsing process. The siphon is only used to collect the highly concentrated liquid residues dripping from the active substance. Apart from the known disadvantages of all dosers working with solid active ingredients, the active ingredient is also released into the entire rinsing water in this doser.
- the rotationally symmetrical device comprises a carrier 1 with a coaxial pipe socket 2 and a float 3, which is guided on the carrier between an upper (in the position of use) and a lower end position up and down.
- the carrier 1 is designed as a hollow sealing pin and sits tightly in the opening neck 4, which is normally closed by a screw cap or the like, of a storage container 5, e.g. a bottle of suitable shape.
- the bottom la of the carrier 1 is funnel-shaped, the pipe socket 2 opens axially into the lowest point of the carrier bottom.
- the float is composed of two coaxial, one-piece parts.
- the outer part consists of a float tube 6, an approximately tulip-shaped, upwardly open insert 7, which is fixed with its edge approximately in the upper third of the float tube and divides the latter into an upper and a lower tube section 6a and 6b, and one overflow pipe 8 inserted into the bottom 7a of the insert.
- the upper pipe section 6a has a somewhat smaller diameter than the lower one, but this is irrelevant for the function.
- the overflow pipe 8 discharges downwards into the environment, its upper edge 8a lies approximately at half the height of the insert 7.
- the inner float part consists of two cylindrical cups 9 and 10, which are connected by a common bottom 9a and are open at the top and bottom, a coaxial guide rod 11 and four retaining wings 12.
- the latter extend radially from the upper container 9 to the inner wall of the upper tube section 6a . They are on the one hand on the upper edge of the insert 7 and on the other hand are behind one molded on the tubular section 6a, inwardly projecting annular bead 13 snapped.
- the cup 10 of the inner float part which is open at the bottom, stands up with its opening edge at the bottom 7a of the insert 7.
- the opening edge is provided with numerous openings 10 a on its circumference, so that the spaces inside and outside the cup 10 communicate.
- the diameter of the cup 10 lies approximately in the middle between those of the overflow pipe 8 and the lower region of the insert 7.
- the guide rod 12 has a cross-shaped profile. It is firmly connected to the bottom 9a of the inner float part and guided up and down in the pipe socket 2. Through the cross-shaped profile, flow channels remain free in the pipe socket, through which the liquid active substance F can flow from the storage container 5 into the cup 9.
- the upper end of the guide rod 11 is slotted and provided with four radially inwardly resilient locking cams lla which engage behind the end or the upper opening edge of the pipe socket 2 and thereby fasten the guide rod 11 and thus the entire float 3 to the carrier 1. (To join carrier 1 and float 3, the guide rod 11 is simply inserted through the pipe socket 2, the locking cams 11a being temporarily deformed inwards).
- the diameter of the upper cup 9 of the inner float part is somewhat larger than that of the pipe socket 2.
- the height or length of the cup 9 and the pipe socket 2 are coordinated with one another in such a way that the lower opening edge 2a of the socket - in the case of FIGS. 1 and 4 shown lower end position of the float 3 is just below or at about the same height as the opening edge 9b of the cup 9.
- the pipe socket 2 dips into the cup 9 and stands on the bottom 9a.
- the float 3 is gradually raised until it finally reaches its upper end position (FIG. 2).
- the pipe socket 2 penetrates further and further into the metering chamber 9 and displaces an active substance volume corresponding to its immersion state from the metering chamber.
- This precisely metered volume now flows off over the edge of the chamber and collects in the lower part of the insert 7 serving as a collecting chamber.
- the active substance volume or the height of the overflow pipe 8 is dimensioned such that the active substance does not flow out via the overflow 8.
- the water in the cistern continues to rise to its maximum level in the third functional phase, it penetrates through the overflow 8 into the collecting chamber 7, with the active substance therein being prediluted (FIG. 3).
- the prediluted active ingredient remains enclosed in the collecting chamber 7 and - apart from the negligible diffusion through the overflow 8 - cannot get into the surrounding rinsing water.
- the container 5 in the cistern happens to be arranged lower than shown, so that the highest water level would then be higher than shown relative to the container neck 4, the water level within the space enclosed by the hollow support 1 cannot rise much higher because of the then enclosed air volume, so that the active ingredient in the dosing chamber 9 cannot come into contact with the penetrating water and can then flow out of the dosing chamber.
- the - pre-diluted active ingredient only reaches the water in the cistern in the last functional phase, and only in its top layer, corresponding to approximately the last liter flowing out.
- This has the effect that essentially only the flushing water remaining in the siphon of the toilet bowl contains active substance, while the rest of the water, which is already flowing away, remains free of active substance.
- This allows higher concentrations and nevertheless lower consumption of active ingredient for a given number of rinses and accordingly higher effectiveness and economy.
- more than twice as many rinses can be carried out as with the device described in US Pat. No. 2,967,310.
- the device according to the invention also consists of two main components, namely a quantitative metering unit and a dispensing control unit.
- the quantitative dosing unit essentially consists of the dosing chamber 9 and the pipe socket 2 as well as the float which actuates or controls it, designated as a whole by 3.
- the dispensing control unit contains those elements which prevent premature and thus undesirable outflow of the amount of active substance dispensed by the metering unit into the ambient liquid. These elements are primarily the collecting chamber 7 with the overflow pipe 8 and the lower cup 10, which together with the overflow pipe 8 forms the siphon. Furthermore, these elements also include the upper section 6a of the float tube 6, which projects into the carrier 1 in the upper float position and thus prevents the ingress of water from above.
- the two main components of the invention in particular the dispensing control unit, can be implemented in a variety of ways. It is only essential that the The active ingredient is only released during the emptying of the surrounding water, namely into the uppermost, last draining layer of the latter.
- the described embodiment of the device according to the invention is particularly advantageous, since it is structurally very simple and accordingly easy and inexpensive to manufacture. Because of these properties, it is therefore also suitable as a mass disposable item, such as in connection with hygiene sets, etc.

Abstract
