Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a ski safety binding and more specifically the front stop of a ski safety binding.
  • Conventional safety bindings by far the most widespread, consist of two parts intended to retain the boot on the ski; a front stop which cooperates with the front part of the shoe-sole or upper and a heel piece which cooperates with the heel of the shoe.
  • the front stop member in contact with the boot moves in a direction approximately transverse to the ski against a preset elastic device and releases the boot ; in the event of excessive vertical effort, due to a fall of the skier forwards, the heel member retaining the heel moves in an approximately vertical direction, also against a preset elastic device and releases the shoe.
  • these known fasteners are equipped with an anti-friction device serving as a support for the standardized and smooth front part of the sole. They are generally wafers made of a material with a low coefficient of friction such as PTFE, or else rolling elements such as rollers or rotating discs. These well known safety bindings give complete satisfaction under normal conditions of skiing and offer the skier very good security.
  • the present invention proposes to solve this problem by producing a front stop whose trigger hardness is practically independent of the state of cleanliness or deterioration of the sole.
  • the front stop object of the invention comprises a shoe retaining jaw movable laterally against an elastic system with preset hardness and is associated with a device intended to support the front part of the sole, the latter comprising at least one movable member capable of being driven by the transverse displacement of the sole.
  • the movable member is functionally connected to the elastic system in such a way that its movement causes the reduction in the retention hardness of the shoe.
  • the movable member acts on the elastic system by means of a slide guided in translation in the base of the front stop;
  • the movable member preferably takes the form of a plate which can move in a direction approximately transverse to the ski and in particular along a circular arc path centered on the pivot point of the boot in the binding; this arrangement makes it possible to avoid any slipping of the shoe relative to its support device.
  • the transmission of movement between the movable plate and the slide are produced by means of a cam or articulated levers.
  • the slider has an extension serving as a support member at the front of the sole so that the slider is moved and the retaining hardness of the front stop is lowered, due to the inclination of the shoe due to a forward fall.
  • Figures 1 to 7 show a first embodiment of a front stop according to the invention.
  • This consists of a body 1 mounted on the ski 2 by means of screws 3 and a jaw 4 articulated on the body 1 around a vertical axis 5.
  • the shoe 6 is supported by the front part of its upper against linings 7 clipped onto the arms of the jaw 4 and whose material has good sliding characteristics. It rests by its smooth part 8, the position and the sliding coefficient of which are normalized, on a support device designated by the general reference 9.
  • This device comprises a slide 10 fixed to the ski by screws 11 and having a T-section as well as a circular arc shape whose center approximately coincides with the pivot axis of the shoe in the binding.
  • the slide 10 serves as a guide for a movable plate 12 provided with a complementary section groove.
  • a support plate 13 secured to the plate 12 supports the underside of the sole 8.
  • the plate 12 is provided with an appendage 14 located on the axis of the ski 2 and directed towards the front thereof.
  • Appendix 14 carries a roller 15 which can rotate freely about a vertical axis and bears against a very open V-shaped concave cam 16, formed on a part 17.
  • the part 17 is fixed, by any suitable means , at the rear end of a slide 18 which can slide on a slide 20 fixed to the ski by screws 21.
  • the elastic system housed in the abutment body 1 comprises a set of springs 22 which bears against a plate 23 and urges a piston 24 slidably mounted in the body 1.
  • the piston 24 has a flat head 25 which, in known manner, acts against a flat part 26 formed on the back of the jaw 4 in order to maintain the latter elastically centered along the axis of the ski.
  • a screw 27 is used to adjust the hardness of the springs 22.
  • the slide 18 At its front part, the slide 18 has a vertical extension 19 which, according to the invention, is interposed between the piston head 25 and the flat part 26 of the jaw 4.
  • stops 29 intended to cooperate with the appendix 14 to limit the lateral movement of the plate 12 in order to prevent it from coming off the ski.
  • the stops 29 are integral with the slide 10; elongated openings formed in the front wall of the plate 12 allow the latter to slide despite the presence of the stops 29.
  • the plate 12 By its displacement, the plate 12 consequently facilitates the opening of the front stop by helping it to overcome the resistance of the elastic system 22, 24.
  • the profile of the cam 16 is preferably designed so that the pivoting of the shoe causes the same displacement of the piston 24 whether it be due to the rotation of the jaw 4 or due to the lateral displacement of the plate 12, assuming that 'There is no sliding of the sole on the support plate 13.
  • Figures 8 to 11 show a second embodiment of a front stop according to the invention.
  • This comprises a body 30 which is rotatably mounted on a vertical pivot 31, in the form of a tube, integral with a base 32 fixed to the ski 2.
  • the tube 31 has a planar milled part 33 forming a cam, facing towards before skiing.
  • a piston 34 is slidably mounted in a cylindrical bore 35 of the body 30 and bears by its flat face 36 against the cam 33.
  • the piston 34 is biased by a spring 37 which takes pressing against an adjustment cap 38 screwed into the body 30.
  • a lever 39 articulated around a transverse axis 40 integral with said tube.
  • the lever 39 has a prominence 41 by which it bears against the central part of the piston 34.
  • the front part of the shoe 42 is applied against anti-friction linings 43 mounted on the lateral arms 44 forming integral parts of the body 30 and constituting the jaw of the front stop.
  • the shoe 42 rests by its normalized smooth part on a support device similar to that described in the previous embodiment and constituted by a slide 46 in the form of an arc of a circle on which a plate 47 provided with can slide. a sole support plate 48.
  • the plate 47 has an appendage 49 provided with a rotary roller 50.
  • In the base 32 are mounted two levers 51a, 51b articulated around vertical axes 52a, 52b, and each having a ramp 53a, 53b. These ramps are turned towards the boot, that is to say towards the rear of the ski, and are both in contact with the roller 50.
  • the levers 51a, 51b are provided with bosses 54a, 54b respectively which bear against a slide 55 mounted in the base 32 and guided to slide longitudinally therein.
  • the front end of the slide 55 is in contact with the lower part of the lever 39 while its rear end forms a vertical extension 56 serving to support the front of the sole of the shoe.
  • the boot 42 tends to escape transversely, causing in its movement one of the arms 44, which rotates the body 30 on the pivot 31. This triggering is produced against the elastic system constituted by the spring 37, the piston 34 and the cam 33.
  • the soleplate If the bottom of the soleplate is dirty or in poor condition, it also drives the plate 48 and the roller 50. The latter applying against one of the ramps 53a or 53b, depending on the direction of movement, rotates one of the levers 51a, 51b about its axis 52a, 52b, respectively.
  • lever 51a which is driven. In turn it pushes the slide 55 by means of its boss 54a.
  • the lever 39 is therefore biased and tends to push the piston 34 by means of the protrusion 41. This therefore facilitates triggering because the lever 39 contributes to acting against the elastic system 37, 34, 33.
  • FIG. 10 shows the function fulfilled by the vertical extension 56 of the slider 55.
  • the front of the sole acts on the extension 56 and pushes the slider forward 55 so that the lever 39 is driven as previously to act on the piston 34.
  • Figures 12 to 15 show a third and last embodiment of a front stop according to the invention.
  • This consists of a body 61 fixed on the upper surface of the ski 2 and a jaw 64 cooperating with the front part of the shoe sole 62 to retain the latter centered on the ski.
  • On the front face of the jaw 64 are formed two vertical grooves 71 which are applied elastically against the support beads 63 formed on the body 61 and which, in known manner, constitute knives for tilting the jaw 64.
  • the elastic system acting on the jaw 64 comprises a set of springs66, 67 mounted in series in the body 61. This set of springs bears against a shoulder 68 formed in the body 61 and acts on an adjustment plug 69 carried by a tie rod 65 which is articulated on the jaw 64 via a vertical axis 70.
  • a slide 72 which can move along the axis of the ski.
  • the slider 72 assumes the shape of an L, the vertical branch 73 of which is interposed between the springs 66 and 67.
  • the shoe 62 rests on a support device comprising a plate 77 provided with a support plate 78 and guided on a slide in an arc of a circle 74 in order to be able to slide transversely to the ski.
  • a very open V-shaped concave cam 75 Under the plate 77 is formed a very open V-shaped concave cam 75, the apex of which faces the front of the ski, and against which a finger 76 fixed at the rear end of the slide 72 rests ( Figure 15 ).
  • the finger 76 is mounted in an adjustable manner on the slide 72.
  • this device adjustment has not been shown in the drawings, for the sake of simplification.
  • Figure 14 shows the operation of this front stop under normal conditions for which the friction between the shoe sole and the pad 78 is low.
  • the jaw 64 swings over one of the knives 63 by drawing back the tie rod 65, which causes the series of springs 66, 67 to be compressed, which behave like a single spring.
  • FIG. 13 shows the operation of this front stop when the shoe is dirty or in poor condition so that it moves the plates 78 and 77 in its movement.
  • the cam 75 formed on the latter acts on the follower member 76 in causing the slide 72 and its vertical extension 73 to recede.
  • the inclination of the ramp 75 has been defined in such a way that the displacement of the slider 72 is greater than that of the tie rod 65 whatever the release path of the shoe.
  • the spring 67 compresses strongly, while the spring 66 relaxes. the shoe retaining hardness is therefore exerted only by the relaxed spring 66, consequently with a force less than the force preset initially.
  • front stop of the invention can undergo various modifications without departing from the scope of the invention.
  • a shoe support device constituted by a series of sole support rollers, the rotation of which would control the lowering of hardness of the elastic system.
  • the invention could also be applied to front stops whose jaw is formed of two independent arms.
