Definitions
- Ripples are periodic bumps on the rail surface with wavelengths of approx. 30 to 60 mm and amplitudes up to approx. 0.4 mm and are preferably presented on the running surface as more or less regular shiny mountains and valleys. These corrugations reduce driving comfort and contribute significantly to the stress on the vehicles and the superstructure. They cause the track system to deteriorate prematurely and significantly increase noise emissions.
