Definitions

  • the invention relates to a device for controlling the supply of writing medium to the writing device of mechanical writers with a compressed air source acting on the liquid surface of the writing medium storage container.
  • Such devices are intended to ensure that a sufficient amount of writing medium is available at the start of the writing process, that the supply of the writing medium is ensured during the entire writing process, variously also providing regulation of the writing medium supply depending on the writing speed, and that Completion of the writing process reliably prevents the supply of writing materials and thus drops forming on the writing device, for example consists of a tube recorder, is prevented.
  • An ink supply system for writers is known from US Pat. No. 4,042,937, in which pressurized writing fluid is applied to the writing head at the beginning of the writing process and the writing head is connected to a device for generating negative pressure when the writing process ends.
  • An ink supply system is also known from US Pat. No. 4,038,667, in which a valve is arranged between the writing medium storage container and the writing head, so that in its initially closed state a vacuum can be applied to the writing head or writing fluid can be used to clean the writing head can be supplied with overpressure.
  • both of the previously known devices described are intended for use in so-called jet printers, in which the typeface is caused by individual droplets of writing fluid ejected from the writing head.
  • DE-A-2 643 566 also relates to such a jet printer.
  • a baffle plate is pivotally mounted, which thus acts as a valve closing part and ensures that drops of a defined size are dispensed from the writing nozzle.
  • the object of the invention is to provide a device for controlling the supply of writing materials, which is characterized by the use of relatively simple components and is accordingly inexpensive to produce, but which, on the other hand, also ensures reliable control of the writing material supply with high operational reliability and largely maintenance-free.
  • a device of the type mentioned at the outset which is distinguished by a quick-release three-way valve which can be regulated and is located between the compressed air source and the writing medium reservoir depending on the operating state of the writing device, with the writing medium storage container in the writing position being connected to the compressed air source via a line and is connected to the environment in the rest position; by a control device for simultaneous actuation of the valve and an electromechanical device for lifting and placing the writing device on the writing surface, by an outlet valve located between the writing medium storage container and the writing device and regulating automatically depending on the writing medium pressure, the three-way valve and the outlet valve being dimensioned in such a way, that in the writing position, the outlet valve is automatically opened under the pressure of the writing medium, and that during the return to the rest position, the outlet valve is closed and defined by the static negative pressure which develops when the line is rapidly vented via the three-way valve and propagates via the writing medium Friction is kept in this closed position.
  • the arrangement according to the invention ensures that the writing medium is immediately available at the beginning of the writing process, i.e. when changing from one operating state to the other, by exerting pressure on the writing medium surface via the open valve between the compressed air source and the writing medium storage container , which propagates itself in the writing medium and automatically opens the outlet valve.
  • the valve arranged after the compressed air source is closed and, due to the pressure of the writing medium thereby reduced, the outlet valve also closes, so that the writing medium supply to the writing device is interrupted.
  • the three-way valve used has two switching positions, in one of which the compressed air source is connected to the writing medium reservoir and the outlet is closed, while in the other the line to the compressed air source is interrupted and the line to.
  • Storage container connected to the atmosphere, that is, vented.
  • the valve At the beginning of the writing process, the valve is brought into the first position, while when it is finished it is regulated into the second position.
  • the ventilation line is very large in cross section compared to the other lines, so that the ventilation takes place very quickly and at a high flow rate, which leads to a decrease in the static pressure in the vented line to a certain amount below that of the external pressure .
  • the outlet valve is preferably not spring-loaded, but is brought into the closed position by the negative pressure, where it is held under the influence of a defined frictional force until a sufficient pressure of the writing medium causes it to open.
  • an electromechanically actuated shut-off valve which can be controlled depending on the operating state of the writing device and is located between the compressed air source and the writing medium storage container, can be provided, the writing medium storage container being connected via a line to the compressed air source in the writing position.
  • This embodiment is further characterized by a control device for the simultaneous actuation of the valve and an electromechanical device for lifting and placing the writing device on the writing pad, and by an outlet valve acted upon by a spring in the closing direction, which is located between the writing medium storage container and the writing device, the valve body of the outlet valve is sealingly guided at least along part of its stroke, and the outlet valve is dimensioned such that when the valve is open, the outlet valve opens by the pressure exerted by the writing means against the spring force, and that when the valve is closed, the outlet valve closes automatically due to the spring force becomes.
  • the valve downstream of the compressed air source is a simple shut-off valve, i.e. it is opened at the beginning of the writing process, so that the compressed air source is connected to the writing medium storage container, and is closed when the writing process has ended.
  • the spring-loaded outlet valve also opens against the spring force when a writing medium pressure builds up when the shut-off valve is open, and permits the outflow of writing medium. If the shut-off valve is closed and thus the pressure on the writing medium is interrupted, the spring of the outlet valve leads the valve body back into the closed position, and since this is guided in a sealing manner, a suction effect is exerted on the writing medium column remaining between the outlet valve and the writing device outlet.
  • This embodiment also does not require an additional device for generating a negative pressure.
  • the outlet valve is advantageously arranged directly on the writing device. This achieves maximum effectiveness of the valve, the simple design of the valve making it so light that the inertia of the writing device is not significantly increased, which would reduce its mobility.
  • a controllable throttle valve between the compressed air source and the writing device.
  • a throttle valve can be used to regulate the pressure on the writing medium and thus the amount of writing medium flowing out.
  • the throttle valve is controlled by hand according to the expected writing speed.
  • an electromechanically controllable throttle valve and a regulating device for regulating the throttle valve are provided as a function of the respective writing speed.
  • the control device can e.g. regulate the throttle valve as a function of the speed of the servomotors causing the relative movement between the writing pad and the writing device. This ensures a constant line width throughout the entire writing process.
  • a compressed air source 1 is provided, at the output of which a pressure gauge 2 is arranged. This is connected via the compressed air line 3 to a throttle valve 4 for pressure control, which in turn is connected via line 5 to the one connection 6 of the three-way valve 7.
  • Another port 8 of the three-way valve 7 is connected to the writing medium storage container 10 via the line 9.
  • the third connection 11 of the three-way valve 7 leads to the outside.
  • the three-way valve 7 is controlled via a control device 12 depending on the operating state of the writing device 13, i.e. adjustable depending on whether this is in the writing or resting position. If the writing device 13 is in the rest position, port 8 is connected to port 11 of the three-way valve 7, i.e. line 9 is vented.
  • port 6 is connected to port 8 of the three-way valve 7, so that compressed air from the compressed air source 1 can act on the surface of the writing medium 14 in the writing medium storage container 10, which is hermetically sealed from the outside.
  • an outlet valve 16 is switched on, which opens automatically under the pressure of the writing medium and is closed again by the static negative pressure which arises when the line 9 is quickly vented via the three-way valve 7 and propagates via the writing medium 14 and is held in this closed position with defined friction.
  • the valve between lines 5 and 9 is a check valve, which is also controlled by the control device 12, in such a way that it is open in the writing position of the writing device or closed in its rest position.
  • the outlet valve 18 is arranged directly on the writing device 13, which is lowered into the writing position by means of an electromechanical device 21 and raised in the rest position. The actuation of this lifting and lowering device 21 is electrically coupled to the control of the valve 17 via the control device 12.
  • the outlet valve 18 has a valve body 23 acted upon by a spring 22 in the blocking direction.
  • the outlet valve 18 is advantageously designed approximately as shown schematically in FIG. 3.
  • a spring 22 acts on the spherical valve body 23 and presses it in the direction of the closed position.
  • the valve body 23 is sealingly guided along its stroke. Under the pressure of the writing means -14, the valve body 23 is moved from the position shown on the left in FIG. 3 to the position shown on the right in FIG. 3, whereby a free connection is established between the inlet and outlet channels 24 and 25, ie writing means 14 can flow to the writing device 13.
  • the spring 22 pushes the valve body 23 up again, a vacuum being generated below it by the sealing guidance of the valve body 23, which results in the writing column 13 still located in the writing device 13 being sucked back.
  • a reducing valve 4a connected downstream of the compressed air source 1 serves to reduce the pressure to the required operating pressure.
  • the throttle valve 4 is designed as a throttle check valve and prevents, among other things. through flow control at the start of the writing process, an excessively sudden build-up of pressure and the resulting drop formation at the tip of the writing device.
  • the device according to the invention can also be used accordingly for the use of Veilfach writing heads for different line widths or colors.
  • the device according to the invention can, for example, be accommodated in a housing.
