[Class 135] [Also in Groups XL and XV] An electrically - controlled valve for the supply of ink to the recording stylus of a telegraphic or other signal recording apparatus is provided with an ink space 9, Fig. 1, on the inlet side 10 between the valve 12 and a plunger 3 and with another ink space 17 in front of the valve, the arrangement being such that each time the plunger is operated by a signal impulse to open the valve, the ink is pressed from the space 9 to the space 17 and from this through the outlet 16 to the recording stylus, whereas when the valve closes, the ink is sucked into the space 17 and smudging is avoided at the stylus. The valve is normally held closed by a spring 21 and is opened by the attraction of an armature 2 on the end of the plunger 3 by an electromagnet 1 when this receives a recording signal. The valve may be supplied with ink through a pipe 23, Fig. 4, from a reservoir 22 adapted to be filled through an opening 25 closed by a screw cap 26.
