Description

Process for the production of low carbon steels from scrap containing special carbide formers In the patent 965 784 a process for the production of low carbon steel, preferably below 0.1% carbon containing steel from scrap with contents of special carbide formers, in particular stainless steel scrap, is protected in an electric furnace which the furnace charge after melting in a pan or other simple vessel, z. B. a converter-like, decanted, there is refined with oxygen to a particularly low carbon content and then tipped back in an oven and made ready. It has now been found that the process according to the main patent can be carried out in such a way that the fresh steel does not have to be tipped back into the furnace and the steel is finished in view of the considerable excess temperature in the container (pan), that is, that there the slag is reduced, the steel is deoxidized and optionally, z. B. for correction, is alloyed. To reduce the slag and deoxidation of the steel, preferably aluminum, z. B. in the form of dust or granules, ferrosilicon, preferably ground, calcium silicon and similar alloys of alkaline earths and alkaline earths and carbon and calcium carbide individually or in mixtures with one another.
