Abstract

1314889 Desulphurizing steel ALLM€NNA SVENGKA ELEKTRISKA A B 14 July 1970 [15 July 1969] 34052/07 Heading C7D A deoxidized steel melt weighing more than 1 ton is desulphurized in a vessel having a lining which prevents oxygen from leaking into the melt and which is basic at least at the slag line. At least one basic slag forming agent is added to form a desulphurizing slag and the melt is kept deonidized throughout the desulphurizing process by vacuum degassing and/or by adddition of a deonidizing agent and is subjected to vigourous heating and stirring. A desulphurizing agent such as misch metal, calcium, silicon-calcium or aluminium-calcium may be added to the melt. Lime may be added in amount 0À2-2À0% by weight of the total charge, misch metal up to 1À0%, calcium or an alloy thereof to add up to 0À5% of calcium or magnesium or an alloy thereof to add up to 0À5% of magnesium may be used. Aluminium with or without a fluxing agent such as fluorspar may be added to the slag.
