Description
- Die Erfindung betrifft eine Mehrschichtenfolie mit einer metallisierten Oberfläche, die eine verbesserte Metallhaftung und eine hervorragende Bruchbeständigkeit aufweist.
- Das Verbinden von Metallen, wie Aluminium, Silber, Chrom usw., mit Kunststoffolien hat es ermöglicht, daß derartige Folien in vielen Fällen Folien solcher Metalle ersetzen. Die Flexibilität der Folien erfordert die Bildung einer starken Metall-Kunststoff-Bindung, und es wurde eine Anzahl von Versuchen unternommen, eine solche Bindung bereitzustellen.
- Gemäß dem US-Patent Nr. 4345005 wird eine Kernschicht aus einem Polypropylenhomopolymer mit einem Ethylen-Propylencopolymer coextrudiert. Die Folie wird biaxial orientiert, und die Copolymerschicht wird koronabehandelt. Mittels eines geeigneten Verfahrens, wie einer Niederschlagung im Vakuum, wird auf die koronabehandelte Schicht eine Metallbeschichtung aufgebracht. Um die Haftung zwischen dem Metall und der Kunststoffolie zu verbessern, enthalten weder die Kernschicht noch die Außenschichten ein Gleitmittel in einer Menge, welche die Bindung zwischen dem Metall und der Kunststoffolie verschlechtern würde.
- Andere Versuche, eine gute metallisierbare Oberfläche zu schaffen, betrafen beispielsweise das Modifizieren der Oberfläche einer Polyolefinfolie durch verschiedene Oxidationsprozesse und/oder das Aufbringen eines Klebstoffs auf die Oberfläche der Folie. Für diesen Zweck wurden verschiedene Primerbeschichtungen eingesetzt, beispielsweise carboxylierte Butadienpolymere und mit Maleinsäureanhydrid modifizierte ataktische Propylenpolymere.
- Zu dem in Betracht gezogenen Polyethylen mit hoher Dichte zählen beispielsweise Polyethylene mit einer Dichte von etwa 0,960 oder höher. Das Polyethylen mit hoher Dichte kann ausschließlich aus einem einzigen Polyethylenharz mit hoher Dichte, einem Gemisch aus Polyethylenharzen mit hoher Dichte oder einem Polyethylen mit hoher Dichte, das einen kleineren Anteil von etwa 10 Gew% eines mikrokristallinen Wachses enthält, zusammengesetzt sein. Es können Polyethylene mit hoher Dichte, wie sie in dem US-Patent 4870122 beschrieben sind, das auf den Namen P.C. Lu erteilt worden ist, verwendet werden.
- Das heißsiegelbare Polymer (C) kann irgendeine Schicht oder Beschichtung sein, die es erlaubt, die Folie auf sich selbst oder irgendeine andere Oberfläche durch Wärme zu siegeln. Das bevorzugte heißsiegelbare Polymer ist ein Ethylen-Propylen- Copolymer, das etwa 2 bis 4 Gew% Ethylen und etwa 96 bis etwa 98 Gew% Polypropylen enthält.
- Die vorliegende Erfindung bezieht sich auch auf ein Verfahren zum Herstellen einer Grundfolie aus einem orientierten Polypropylenhomopolymer oder -copolymer zum Metallisieren, wobei die Folie eine verbesserte Metallhaftung im Vergleich zu anderen orientierten Grundfolien aufweist. Das Verfahren kann durch Coextrudieren der Hautschicht aus Polyethylen mit hoher Dichte auf das Grundsubstrat aus dem ausgewählten Propylenhomo- oder -copolymer und nachfolgendes Orientieren des Aufbaus sowohl in der Maschinen- als auch in der Querrichtung verwirklicht werden. Anschließend wird die Oberfläche des Polyethylens mit hoher Dichte in geeigneter Weise entweder einer Koronaentladungsbehandlung oder einer Flammbehandlung unterworfen. Die Koronaentladungsbehandlung kann bis zu etwa 35 bis 60 dyn/cm, vorzugsweise bis etwa 35 bis 40 dyn/cm, erfolgen. Anschließend kann die hergestellte Grundfolie durch irgendeine der bekannten Methoden, zum Beispiel durch Elek- troplattieren, Versprühen und Metallisieren im Vakuum, metallisiert werden. Eine bevorzugte Methode zum Metallisieren der behandelten Außenschicht ist die Vakuumbedampfung. Die Metallbeschichtung kann aus irgendeinem der typischen Metalle, wie Aluminium, Kupfer, Silber und Chrom, bestehen.
- Die hergestellte metallisierte Folie weist bei Umwandlungsvorgängen, wo eine starke Metall-Grundschicht-Grenzfläche kritisch ist, eine hervorragende Leistungsfähigkeit auf. Bei Anwendungen der Laminierung mittels Klebstoff und mittels Extrusion zeigt die metallisierte Folie eine überragende Bindungsfestigkeit und führt zu keinerlei Ablösung des Metalls. Dies wird als gleichwertig oder besser im Vergleich zu anderen Qualitätsfolien aus metallisiertem Propylenpolymer, die gemäß dem Stand der Technik hergestellt werden, angesehen. Beispielsweise zeigt die metallisierte Propylenpolymerfolie bei der Extrusionslaminierung unter typischen Verfahrensbedingungen Bindungsfestigkeiten zwischen dem metallisierten Film und dem Polyethylen mit niedriger Dichte von über 78,7 g/cm (200 g/in) mit 0 % Metallübertragung von dem metallisierten Propylenpolymer auf das Polyethylen mit niedriger Dichte.
- Zusätzlich wurde gefunden, daß die Folie beim Extrusionslaminieren gegen Metallbruch beständig gemacht werden kann, und zwar durch Vermindern der Dicke der Hautschicht aus Polyethylen mit hoher Dichte. Insbesondere, wenn bei einer Gesamtfoliendicke von etwa 12,5 bis 25 µm (50 bis 100 Maßeinheiten) die Hautdicke des Polyethylens mit hoher Dichte klei ner als oder gleich etwa 0,5 µm (2 Maßeinheiten) ist, weist die metallisierte Oberfläche aus Polyethylen mit hoher Dichte eine hervorragende Metallbruchfestigkeit auf, wenn während der Extrusionslaminierung ein Kontakt mit einer Schmelze aus Polyethylen niedriger Dichte erfolgt ist.
- Es wurden verschiedene Aufbauten von Folien hergestellt, die aus Strukturen des Typs ABC bestanden, wobei die Gesamtfoliendicken bei 17,5 µm (70 Maßeinheiten) gehalten wurden. Die C-Schicht stellt die Siegelseite dar und wurde bei 1 µm (4 Maßeinheiten) konstant gehalten. Polyethylen hoher Dichte (Typ 7835 von Cain Chemical, 3,0 M.I., Dichte 0,960) wurde auf ein Polypropylenhomopolymer als B-Schicht coextrudiert, um die A-Schicht zu bilden. Die A-Schicht wurde in der Dicke von 0,25 bis 0,75 µm (1,0 bis 3,0 Maßeinheiten) variiert. Die aus Polyethylen mit hoher Dichte bestehende Oberfläche der Folie wurde bis zu einem außer der Reihe liegenden Grad von 43 dyn/cm behandelt.
- Folien aus Polyethylen hoher Dichte mit Dicken von 0,25 bis 0,75 µm (1,0 bis 3,0 Maßeinheiten) wurden mittels üblicher Techniken auf der behandelten Oberfläche mit Aluminium im Vakuum bis zu einer optischen Dichte von 1,8 bis 2,5 metallisiert. Um den Haftungsgrad zwischen dem Aluminium und der A- Schicht aus Polyethylen mit hoher Dichte für die Folie festzustellen, wurde auf jeder Folie ein Test mit einem 3M- Company-610-Klebeband durchgeführt. Der Prozentsatz an Aluminium, der von der Oberfläche einer jeden metallisierten Folie nach 3 aufeinanderfolgenden Abziehvorgängen mit dem Klebeband 610 abgezogen wurde, wurde festgehalten und ist unten angegeben.
- Die metallisierten Folien wurden anschließend auf einen Folienstreifen aus orientiertem Polypropylen extrusionslaminiert, wobei ein Polyethylen mit niedriger Dichte (4,54 kg/ream (10 lb/ream)) bei einer Schmelztemperatur von 327ºC (620ºF) verwendet wurde. Die metallisierten coextrudierten Folien wurden bezüglich der Laminierungsbindefestigkeit gegenüber dem Polyethylen mit niedriger Dichte und bezüglich des Prozentsatzes der Übertragung von Metall von der metallisierten Oberfläche aus geprüft. Auch wurde bei jeder Laminierung mit einem Lichtbetrachtungsgerät bei 25facher Vergrößerung der Metallbruch überprüft. Die Ergebnisse der Bewertung sind in der nachfolgenden Tabelle angegeben. Für Vergleichszwecke werden auch Ergebnisse gezeigt, die für ein direktes Metallisieren auf eine behandelte Schicht aus Polypropylenhomopolymer (Beispiel 1) typisch sind.
- Wie die Tabelle zeigt, wurden während des Klebestreifentests 40 % des Aluminiums von dem behandelten Polypropylen abgezogen. Jedoch wurde beim Einsatz der behandelten Oberfläche des Polyethylens mit hoher Dichte kein Aluminium abgezogen. Die Tabelle zeigt eine Bindefestigkeit des metallisierten orientierten Polypropylens gegenüber dem Polyethylen mit niedriger Dichte von 47,2 g/cm (120 Gramm/in), was deutlich niedriger ist als die Bindefestigkeit für die Beispiele 2 bis 6. Die Tabelle läßt auch erkennen, daß beim Einsatz eines Polypropylenhomopolymers allein als Grundlage für das Aluminium 95 % des Aluminiums auf die Oberfläche des Polyethylens mit niedriger Dichte übertragen werden. Andererseits wird in allen Beispielen der vorliegenden Erfindung kein Aluminium auf das Polyethylen mit niedriger Dichte übertragen. Die letzte Spalte der Tabelle zeigt, daß kein Metallbruch eintritt, solange die Dicke des Polyethylens mit hoher Dichte 0,5 µm (2 Maßeinheiten) oder weniger beträgt. Wenn die Dicke größer als 0,625 µm (2,5 Maßeinheiten) ist, liegt der Metallbruch bei mäßig bis stark.
- Die vorgenannten Ergebnisse zeigen, daß die Verwendung einer Oberfläche aus einem Polyethylen mit hoher Dichte auf der Propylenpolymer-Grundschicht eine außergewöhnliche Oberfläche zur Verfügung stellt, um daran eine metallisierte Schicht zu binden.
Claims (7)
1. Metallisierte orientierte Folienkombination mit einem
Propylenhomopolymer- oder -copolymersubstrat (B),
das auf
mindestens einer Seite eine Hautschicht (A) aus einem
Polyethylen mit hoher Dichte aufweist, auf dem eine dünne
Metallschicht niedergeschlagen ist.
2. Kombination nach Anspruch 1, die eine heißsiegelbare
Polymerschicht (C) auf der Seite des Substrats (B)
aufweist, die der Schicht (A) gegenüberliegt.
3. Verfahren zum Herstellen der Kombination nach Anspruch 2,
worin die Polymerschichten (A), (B) und (C) koextrudiert
werden.
4. Kombination nach Anspruch 2, worin die Dichte des
Polyethylens etwa 0,960 oder größer ist.
5. Kombination nach Anspruch 4, worin die gesamte
Foliendicke etwa 12,5 bis etwa 37,5 µm (etwa 50 bis etwa 150
Maßeinheiten) beträgt und die Polyethylenschicht (A) etwa
0,75 µm (etwa 3 Maßeinheiten) oder weniger aufweist.
6. Kombination nach Anspruch 5, worin die Metallschicht aus
Aluminium besteht.
7. Kombination nach Anspruch 6, worin auf der Folie
Aluminium bis zu einer optischen Dichte von etwa 1,8 bis
etwa 2,5 niedergeschlagen ist.
