Process for the preparation of conversion products of azo dyes
It has been found that new conversion products of azo dyes can be achieved
Treating azo dyes containing nitro or nitroso groups with a mixture
or combination of formaldehyde or its homologues with reducing agents
Oxygen compounds of sulfur, e.g. B. with a mixture of formaldehyde and
Sodium hyposulfite or sodium formaldehyde sulfoxylsulfuric acid.
The new dyes differ from the aminoazo dyes obtained by treating such azo dyes with the customary reducing agents in that they are readily soluble. Neither could it be foreseen that the reduction process would lead to products which are still azo dyes if the above-mentioned reducing agents were used. Rather, it was to be assumed that the azo bridge would be burst with the formation of the corresponding amines (use of hydrosulfite and sodium formaldehyde sulfoxylsulfuric acid as etching agents, cf.Huben, The Methods of Organic Chemistry, 2nd Edition, 1922, Volume 2, page 354). Example i 248 parts of the dye obtainable by coupling the nitrated diazo compound of i-amino-2-oxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid with i-oxynaphthalene are dissolved under alkaline conditions in 600 parts of water and a solution of the theoretical amount of sodium formaldehyde sulfoxylsulfuric acid at 50.degree Time stirred. For isolation, the greenish blue solution is made very slightly alkaline with 10 percent acetic acid and the resulting dye is salted out. He pulls on wool in copper-violet tones, which become deep black through re-chrome plating. Example 2 572 parts of the dye which is obtained according to patent specification 298432, Example i, by coupling diazotized 4-nitro-i-aminobenzene-2-sulfonic acid ethylanilide with 2-amino-8-oxynaphthalene-6-sulfonic acid in an acidic medium, are with Water and a little alcohol made into a paste and added to a mixture of 700 parts of water with zoo parts of alcohol at 5o to 6o ° C in the course of one hour with the simultaneous addition of the theoretical amount by weight of sodium formaldehyde sulfoxylsulphuric acid and 40 parts by weight of sodium hydroxide. The dye solution is made slightly alkaline with dilute hydrochloric acid, and the dye is salted out by adding sodium chloride. When dried, it is a brown powder that is easily soluble in water. Example 3 644 parts by weight of the dye which is obtained by coupling diazotized 4,4'-diazninodiphenyl with x- (4'-nitrophenyl) -3-methyl-5-pyrazolone are made into a paste with a little water and a little alcohol. The paste is gradually added at the same time as the theoretical amount of sodium formaldehyde sulfoxylsulfuric acid and about xoo to 150 cc of 4% sodium hydroxide solution to a mixture of 50o cc of water and about xoo cc of alcohol with thorough stirring at 50 to 60 ° G. After about an hour, the dye has dissolved. The reducing bath is made weakly alkaline with dilute hydrochloric acid and the separation of the dye is completed by salting out with sodium chloride. The new dye is easily soluble, directly dyes cotton orange and after diazotizing it on the fiber with suitable coupling components it can be further developed into new shades.
