Description
Beispiel. Process for the preparation of tanning agents from sulphite cellulose waste liquor. It has been found that the tanning properties of the swlfit cellulose waste liquor, which in leather technology only has the significance of an auxiliary tanning agent, can be improved by condensing it with sulfur in an alkaline solution. Thickened or dried sulphite cellulose waste liquor (cell pitch), raw or purified, is expediently used, and the reaction conditions are so moderate that only or predominantly water-soluble products are formed. These products have the valuable property of delivering a firm and well-tanned leather of a pleasant color in an acidified solution. Example. A mixture of 500 parts by weight of concentrated, crude sulphite cellulose waste liquor (of about 75 percent dryness), 80 parts by weight of finely powdered sulfur, i 50 parts by volume of sodium hydroxide solution (400 g of caustic soda per liter) and i 50 parts by volume of water is stirred and refluxed to about io until i 15 ' heated until the initially strong evolution of hydrogen sulfide has clearly decreased. The reaction product is then diluted with water, any undissolved material is filtered off, and the neutralized filtrate is evaporated to dryness.
Das so erhaltene Produkt enthält etwa i i Prozent Schwefel; auf Zusatz von iprozentiger Eisenchloridlösung zu seiner schwach sauren, etwa iprozentigen wäßrigen Lösung entsteht eine braune, flockige Fällung. The product thus obtained contains about i percent sulfur; on addition from 1 percent ferric chloride solution to its weakly acidic, about 1 percent aqueous solution forms a brown, flaky precipitate.
