In der Patentschrift 87615 ist ein Verfahren beschrieben, wonach die
Trennung homologer Basen der Anilinreihe in der Art erfolgen kann, daß man sie mit
Formaldehyd behandelt. Die im Gemisch vorhandenen Basen mit freier p-Stellung bilden
dabei Diarvlmethanverbindungen, während die in p-Stellung substituierten Basen in
N-Methylenverbindungen übergehen, die leicht in die Ausgangsstoffe zurückverwandelt
-,werden können. Anderseits ist durch die Untersuchungen von G. Th. 1-I o r g a
n (Journ. Chem. Soc., Bd. 73, S. 536) und diejenigen von R. M o e h 1 a u und 0.
Haase (Ber. 8d. 35, S.466) erwiesen, daß die Einwirkung von Formaldehyd auf Amine
kondensierter Kohlenwasserstoffe - hier ß-Naphthylamin - äußerst kompliziert. verläuft.
Zwar läßt sich bei vorsichtigster Behandlung eine N-Methylenverbindung beim ß-N
aphthylamin fassen, diese ist aber äußerst leicht polvmerisierbar, offenbar weil
die freie reaktionsfähige cc-Stellung des Naphthalinkernes in Betracht zu ziehen

nicht substituierten Basen gehen bei der Behandlung mit Formaldehyd in Diarvlmethanderivate
über und können als Farbstoffzwischenprodukte Verwendung finden. Beispiele. i. ..o
