Description

Process for increasing the softness and elasticity of molded cellulose esters. It has been found that the water-insoluble esters of adipic acid with cyclohexanols The suppleness of formed cellulose esters (films) increase at the same time the Reduce fire hazard. These esters offer the technical advantage that they result in solid solutions without separating out, even with large additives are easily accessible from a technical point of view. It was also found that they were already very small Amounts of these esters give the listed effects, namely suppleness of films with these esters achieved with an addition half as large as he z. B. with cinnamic acid amyl proved necessary.

For example, 5 parts by weight of nitrocellulose become 29 parts by weight Amyl acetate and i i parts by weight of alcohol dissolved and 33/4 parts by weight of solid Cyclohexanol adipate was added from a melting point of 35 to 36 °. One receives after a smooth, homogeneous film after pouring and evaporation.

In the above example, nitrocellulose can be replaced by other Esters of cellulose step. The specified solvents can also be passed through Replace butyl acetate and isopropyl alcohol. It can also take the place of the cyclohexanol ester of adipic acid the adipic acid methyl cyclohexanol ester or its closest homologues occur.

Are also z. B. 5 parts by weight of nitrocellulose with 15 parts by weight of alcohol and 5 parts by weight of cyclohexanol adipate rolled at 80 °, the result is a smooth, plastic mass, which, similar to celluloid, can be further processed.

The adipic acid esters of cyclohexanol and its homologues are prepared in such a way that, r part of adipic acid in 3 parts of cyclohexanol, Bringing methylcyclohexanol or other homologues to a warm solution, dry hydrochloric acid gas initiates, heated for two more hours and then fractionated. For example the solid cyclohexanol ester, which melts at 35 to 36 °, underboils g min pressure at 208-212 ° and the adipic acid-o-: methylz; klohexanolester under i i min pressure at 225 to 226 °.
