Abstract
For protection of concrete reinforcing bar from corrosion, the bar is descaled by pressurised water at about 200-1000 bar, pref. 300-400 bar, in the rolling line and, immediately afterwards, is rapidly cooled by water to a temp. below 600 deg. C before application of a coating of non-ferrous metal, pref. Zn, by spraying or dip coating, followed by a coating of epoxy resin. The quenching produces and edge zone of martensite and bainite, which is tempered by remaining heat in the core of the bar.
