Abstract
A steel strip containing at least 0.1 wt.% Mn is pretreated prior to hot dip coating with Al or Al alloy. During the pretreatments which consist of cleaning, heat treatment and cooling, the atmosphere is maintained as completely non-reducing. Coating esp. stainless and alloy steels. By avoiding the use of hydrogen containing atmospheres, the process becomes more economic and the security of the process is improved.
