Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance the toughness of a weld metal by reducing the reinforcement of the weld metal at a specified surface temp. and a specified reduction ratio. CONSTITUTION:The reinforcement of a weld metal is cooled or reheated and reduced by >=10% of the height at a surface temp. just above the Ar3 transformation point to the Ar1 transformation point. The reduced reinforcement is cooled as it is, or it is further subjected to hardening, tempering or normalizing. By said reduction the influence of dendrite is almost eliminated, and the toughness is enhanced. By increasing the reduction ratio, the breaking of dendrite proceeds. When the reduction ratio is 10% or slightly above 10%, it is effective to carry out the reduction by 1 pass.
