Abstract
In the manufacture of thermomechanically treated rolled steel material, a fine-grained formation of the microstructure is of great importance to the strength and toughness properties of the rolled product. According to the invention, a considerable improvement in the strength and toughness properties, and an associated substantial increase in the yield point values and notched impact strength of a rolled steel product, are achieved if the deformation of the rolled material starts in a temperature range which is below that of stable austenite, and is continued up to just above the Ac3 temperature.
