Description
Die Erfindung betrifft den ungesättigten <x,/?-verzweigten
Aldehyd 2-Ethyl-3-methyl-pent-4-en-l-al.
Verzweigte oder nichtverzweigte ungesättigte Aldehyde sind für zahlreiche Synthesen als Zwischenprodukte
interessant. So kann z. B. aus Pent-4-en-l-al durch Oxosynthese Hexan-1,6-dial gewonnen werden, das in
Hexandiol-1,6, Adipinsäure und Hexamethylendiamin
umgewandelt werden kann.
Neue <x-Methylenaldehyde der allgemeinen Formel
R —C —CHO
Il
CH2
sind in der DE-PS 16 18 528 beschrieben. Diese ungesättigten Aldehyde zeichnen sich durch eine
markante Duftnote aus. Sie sind daher zur Herstellung von Riechstoffen geeignet.
Ungesättigte Aldehyde, die in «-Stellung mono- bzw. disubstituiert sind, sowie Pentenale, die in λ- und
y-Stellung substituiert sind, sind Gegenstand einer Veröffentlichung von Brannock in J. Am. Chem. Soc. 81,
3382(1959).
Ungesättigte in j3-Stellung mono- bzw. disubstituierte
Aldehyde werden z. B. von Burgstahler in J. Am. Chem. Soc. 82,4681 (1960) beschrieben.
Die neue Verbindung 2-Ethyl-3-methyl-pent-4-en-1-al
ist aas n-Butyraldehyd zugänglich.
Erfindungsgemäß setzt man zur Herstellung von 2-Ethyl-3-methyl-pent-4-en-l-al n-Butyraldehyd mit
Crotylalkohol zum entsprechenden Vollacetal um, spaltet katalytisch zum Crotyl-1-butenyläther und lagert
thermisch zu 2-Ethyl-3-methyl-pent-4-en-l-al um.
Bei der Durchführung des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens setzt man n-Butyraldehyd mit Crotylalkohol im
Molverhältnis 1 : 2, gegebenenfalls auch mit überschüssigem Alkohol, in Gegenwart von sauren Katalysatoren,
z. B. p-Toluolsulfonsäure oder Kationenaustauschern,
die in Konzentrationen von 0,01 bis 2,0 Gew.-%, bezogen auf den Aldehyd, eingesetzt werden, zum
n-Butyraldehyd-dicrotylacetal um. Die Anwesenheit eines Lösungsmittels bei der Acetalbildung ist notwendig,
da es als Schleppmittel zur Entfernung des bei der Acetalisierung entstehenden Reaktionswassers dient.
Geeignete Lösungsmittel sind z. B. η-Hexan, n-Hexen und Cyclohexan.
Das wie vorstehend beschrieben hergestellte Diacetal kann ohne zusätzliche Reinigung unmittelbar zum
Crotyl-1-butenyläther gespalten werden. Die Spaltung
verläuft in Anwesenheit von sauren Katalysatoren, z. B. p-Toluolsulfonsäure, Phosphorsäure oder Bisulfaten bei
Temperaturen zwischen 140 bis 2000C, insbesondere
150 bis 1800C.
Auf die katalytische Spaltung des Dicrotylacetals
folgt eine thermisch induzierte Umlagerung, die zur Bildung des 2-Ethyl-3-methyl-pent-4-en-l-als führt Sie
verläuft bei Temperaturen von 250 bis 350° C
Abweichend von der vorstehend beschriebenen Arbeitsweise kann man 2-Ethyl-3-methyl-pent-4-en-l-al
aus n-Butyraldehyd auch in einer einstufigen Reaktion herstellen. Hierzu werden n-Butyraldehyd und Crotylalkohol
im Molverhältnis 1 :1 in Gegenwart eines sauren Katalysators, z. B. p-Toluolsulfonsäure, in einem hochsiedenden
Lösungsmittel, wie Isododecan oder Diphyl, unter Rückfluß auf 100 bis 1600C erhitzt Bei dieser
Umsetzung bildet sich zunächst das Vollacetal des n-Butyraldehyds, das unter den Reaktionsbedingungen
zum ungesättigten Äther gespalten wird und sich trotz der verhältnismäßig niedrigen Temperatur unmittelbar
in 2-Ethyl-3-methyl-pent-4-en-l-al umlagert
Der erfindungsgemäße ungesättigte Aldehyd zeichnet sich durch einen charakteristischen Geruch aus, der
ihn von anderen bekannten ungesättigten Aldehyden deutlich unterscheidet Er kann daher zur Herstellung
von Duftstoffen Verwendung finden. Darüber hinaus
3« stellt der Aldehyd eine leicht zugängliche Zwischenstufe
für eine Reihe von Verbindungen dar, die sonst nur durch aufwendige Synthesen hergestellt werden können.
Durch partielle Hydrierung der neuen Verbindung erhält man 2-Ethyl-3-methyl-pentanal, das in 2-Ethyl-3-
>r> methyl-pentansäure und weiter in 2-EthyI-3-methylvaleronitril
überführt werden kann. Sowohl die vorgenannte Säure als auch das Nitril sind Vorstufen für
pharmazeutische Wirkstoffe.

1980 g (10 Mol) n-Butyraldehyd-dicrotylacetal, das in analoger Weise nach bekannten Methoden (vgl. z. B.
4r> Houben-Weyl, Bd. VII/1, S. 419) in guten Ausbeuten
zugänglich ist, werden in einer 1-m-Kolonne mit 24 theoretischen Böden so destilliert, daß sich bei einem
Arbeitsdruck von 133 mbar und einem Rücklaufverhältnis
von 0,5 :1 eine Sumpftemperatur von etwa 1800C
w und eine Kopf temperatur von 1400C einstellt. Unter den
Reaktionsbedingungen wird das Vollacetal quantitativ gespalten, wobei hauptsächlich Crotyl-1-butenyläther
entsteht, der sich zum Teil bereits in 2-Ethyl-3-methylpent-4-en-l-al
umlagert. Die Ausbeute (bestimmt als
Summe Crotyl-1-butenyläther, isomere Äther, 2-Ethyl-3-methyl-pent-4-en-1
-al) beträgt 96%.
Das Gemisch wird in einem elektrisch beheizten Rohr, das mit einem Intensivkühler und Auffangkolben
versehen ist, thermisch umgelagert Das Rohr ist mit
fco Raschig-Ringen gefüllt (5x4 mm), das Rohrvolumen
beträgt 380 ml. Mit Hilfe einer Dosierpumpe werden 380 ml/h Flüssigkeit bei einer Temperatur von 300° C
dem Rohr zugeführt. Aus 1904 g Einsatzgemisch erhält man 1881 g rohes 2-Ethyl-3-methyl-pent-4-en-l-al.

mbar gewinnt man daraus 1125 g 99,3%iges 2-Ethyl-3-methyl-pent-4-en-1-al
(Ausbeute: 95%).

Verfahren zur Herstellung der Verbindung nach Patentanspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man— n-Butyraldehyd-dicrotylacetal in Gegenwart saurer Katalysatoren zu Crotyl-1-butenyläther spaltet und— den Äther anschließend thermisch in 2-Ethyl-3-methyl-pent-4-en-1 -alumlagert
