Description
2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man die Spaltung zum Allyl-1-pentenyläther
und die sich daran anschließende Umlagerung zum 2-Propyl-pent-4-en-l-al in einem Schritt
durch Erhitzen von n-Valeraldehyd mit Allylalkohol in Gegenwart eines Lösungsmittels auf 100 bis
1600C durchführt.

Auch bei diesem Verfahren geht man von teuren Ausgangsmaterialien aus und muß Reaktionsschritte
anwenden, die nicht kontinuierlich durchführbar sind.
Da ferner die Hydrolyse des Acetamids zur Säure in Gegenwart von Natriumnitrit erfolgt, treten zudem
Umweltprobleme auf.
Es bestand somit die Aufgabe, ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Di-n-propylessigsäure bereitzustellen, das
ίο von preiswerten, in technischen Mengen verfügbaren
Ausgangsmaterialien ausgeht, technisch leicht durchführbare Reaktionsschritte enthält und das gewünschte
Produkt in guten Ausbeuten zugänglich macht Diese Forderungen werden überraschenderweise durch ein
Verfahren zur Herstellung von Di-n-propylessigsäure erfüllt, wobei man
— n-Valeraldehyd-diallylacetal durch Abspaltung eines Mols Allylalkohol je Mol n-Valeraldehyd-diallylacetal
in Allyl-1 -pentenyläther überführt,
— den Allyl-1-pentenyläther durch Erhitzen auf 250
bis 3500C in 2-Propyl-pent-4-en-l-al umlagert,
— das 2-Propyl-pent-4-en-1 -al katalytisch partiell zum
2-Propylvaleraldehyd hydriert und
— den 2-Propylvaleraldehyd zur Di-n-propylessigsäure oxidiert
Die Erfindung betrifft ein neues Verfahren zur Herstellung von Di-n-propylessigsäure aus n-Valeraldehyd.
Derivate der Di-n-propylessigsäure haben als Psychopharmaka und Antiepileptika große Bedeutung erlangt
Für die Herstellung der Säure sind bereits mehrere Synthesen beschrieben worden.
Nach einem bekannten Verfahren geht man von Malonsäurediethylester
aus, der zunächst mit Natriummethylat und anschließend mit Allylchlorid zu Di-allyl-diethylmalonat
umgesetzt wird. Durch Verseifung mit Natriumhydroxid gelangt man zum Natriumsalz der Diallylmalonsäure,
die thermisch zur Diallylessigsäure decarboxyliert und anschließend partiell zur Di-n-propylessigsäure
hydriert wird. Das Verfahren setzt die Verwendung teurer und technisch schwer handhabbarer
Ausgangsstoffe wie Natriummethylat und Allylchlorid voraus.
Eine andere Arbeitsweise variiert einen Prozeß zur Herstellung von Di-isopropylessigsäure, der von Sarel,
J. Am. Chem. Soc. 78, 5416-5420 (1956) beschrieben
wurde. Hierbei wird Cyanessigsäureester in Gegenwart von Natriumisopropylat mittels Isopropyljodid alkyliert.
Es bildet sich Diisopropyl-cyanessigsäureester, der zu Diisopropylacetonitril decarboxyliert wird. In weiteren
Stufen wird das Diiiopropylacetonitril über Diisopropylessigsäureamid
in Diisopropylessigsäure überführt. Die Übertragung dieses Reaktionsweges auf die
Synthese der Di-n-propylessigsäure führt jedoch nur zu Gesamtausbeuten von 10 bis 40% und ist daher technisch
uninteressant.
In der DD-PS 1 29 776 ist ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Di-n-propylessigsäure beschrieben, das von
einem Ester der Cyanessigsäure ausgeht. Durch Umsetzung mit n-Propylbromid oder -jodid in Gegenwart von
Natrium-n-propylat, Verseifung des Di-n-propyl-cyanessigsäureesters
mittels Lauge und Ansäuern erhält man 2,2-Di-n-propylcyanessigsäure, die zum Di-n-propylacetonitril
decarboxyliert wird. Das substituierte Acetonitril wird anschließend mit wäßriger Schwefel-Das
erfindungsgemäße Verfahren geht vom Valeraldehyd aus, der mit Allylalkohol im Mol-Verhältnis t : 2,
gegebenenfalls auch mit überschüssigem Alkohol, in Gegenwart von sauren Katalysatoren, z. B. Toluolsulfonsäure,
Kationenaustauscher, die in Konzentrationen von 0,01 bis 2,0 Gew.-°/o, bezogen auf Valeraldehyd, eingesetzt
werden, zum n-Valeraldehyd-diallylacetal umgesetzt wird. Das Diacetal wird unter Abspaltung eines
Mols Allylalkohol je Mol n-Valeraldehyd-diallylacttal in
Allyl-1-pentenyläther überführt. Die Spaltung des Diacetals
erfolgt thermisch durch Erhitzen auf 120 bis 2000C. Die Anwesenheit eines Lösungsmittels ist bei der
Acetalbildung notwendig, da es als Schleppmittel zur Entfernung des bei der Acetalisierung entstehenden Reaktionswassers
dient. Geeignete Lösungsmittel sind z. B. n-Hexan, η-Hexan, Cyclohexan. Für die Acetalspaltung
ist die Gegenwart eines Lösungsmittels nicht notwendig, aber auch nicht schädlich.
Auf die thermische Spaltung des Diallylacetals folgt eine thermisch induzierte Reaktion in Art einer Claisen-Umlagerung,
die zur Bildung des 2-Propyl-pent-4-en-1-al führt. Die Umlagerung verläuft bei Temperaturen
von 250 bis 350° C.
Nach einer zweckmäßigen Variante der vorstehend beschriebenen Arbeitsweise kann man das 2-Propylpent-4-en-l-al
aus dem n-Valderaldehyd auch in einer einstufigen Reaktion herstellen. Hierzu werden n-Valeraldehyd
und Allylalkohol abweichend von der mehrstufigen Arbeitsweise im Molverhältnis 1 :1 in Gegenwart
katalytischer Mengen einer Säure, z. B. p-Toluolsulfonsäure,
in einem hochsiedenden Lösungsmittel, z. B. llsododecan
oder Diphyl unter Rückfluß auf 100 bis 160°C erhitzt. Bei dieser Umsetzung bildet sich zunächst das
Vollacetal des n-Valeraldehyds, das unter den Reaktionsbedingungen
zum ungesättigten Äther gespalten wird und sich trotz der verhältnismäßig niedrigen Temperatur
unmittelbar in 2-Propyl-pent-4-en-l-al umlagert.
Das wie vorstehend beschrieben hergestellte 2-P'ropyl-pent-4-en-l-al
wird darauf zum gesättigten Aldehyd hydriert Die Umsetzung mit Wasserstoff erfolgt in Ge-
genwart von Katalysatoren, insbesondere Edelmetallkatalysatoren bei Temperaturen von 60 bis 120° C und
Drücken von 60 bis 100 bar. Besonders bewährt haben sich für diese Hydrierung Palladium/Aktivkohle-Katalysatoren
mit einem Palladium-Gehalt von 0,2 bis 10,0 Gew.-%, bezogen auf den gesamten Katalysator. Sie
werden abhängig vom Palladiumgehalt in einer Konzentration von 1,0 bis 5,0 Gew.-%, bezogen auf das Reaktionsgemisch,
angewandt Die Reaktion wird in Flüssigphase durchgeführt Sie verläuft sehr selektiv und
gestattet es, die Doppelbindung zu hydrieren, ohne daß eine Umwandlung des Aldehyds in den entsprechenden
Alkohol stattfindet
Das durch Hydrierung von 2-Propyl-pent-4-en-l-al erhaltene 2-Propylpentanal wird bei 20 bis 600C mit
Sauerstoff zu Di-n-propylessigsäure oxidiert Die Oxidation wird zweckmäßig in einem mit Verteilerböden
versehenen rohrförmigen Reaktor vorgenommen. Sauerstoff kann in reiner Form oder auch in Form von
Gasgemischen, z. B. Luft, Anwendung finden. Die Gegenwart eines Katalysators hat sich als zweckmäßig erwiesen,
um die Bildung von Nebenprodukten zu unterdrücken und die Reaktionsdauer zu reduzieren. Als Katalysatoren
können z. B. das Natrium- bzw. Kaliumsalz der Di-n-propylessigsäure oder Blei- bzw. Bariumchromat
Anwendung finden. Sie gelangen in einer Konzentration von 0,1 bis 2,0 Gew.-%, bezogen auf das Reaktionsgemisch,
zum Einsatz. Die Umwandlung des Aldehyds in die entsprechende Säure vollzieht sich nahezu
quantitativ.
Zur Reindarstellung der Di-n-propylessigsäure arbeitet man die Oxidationsprodukte destillativ auf. Die Destillation
erfolgt zweckmäßig unter vermindertem Druck.
Das neue Verfahren zur Herstellung der Di-n-propylessigsäure hat gegenüber bekannten Prozessen wesentliche
Vorteile. Die Ausgangsstoffe n-Valeraldehyd und Allylalkohol sind großtechnische Basischemikalien, die
preiswert zur Verfügung stehen. Die im Verlauf der Synthese zu beschreitenden Arbeitswege lassen sich im
industriellen Maßstab mühelos vollziehen, wesentliche Teilschritte des gesamten Verfahrens, z. B. die partielle
Hydrierung und die Oxidation können kontinuierlich durchgeführt werden. Schließlich entfallen zeitraubende
und aufwendige Maßnahmen zur Rückgewinnung von Chemikalien, die bei anderen bekannten Prozessen als
Hilfsstoffe für die Synthese von Zwischenverbindungen eingesetzt werden müssen.
Die neue Arbeitsweise ist im nachfolgenden Beispiel näher beschrieben.
Rohr, das mit einem Intensivkühler und Auffangkolben versehen ist thermisch umgelagert Das Rohr ist mit
Raschig-Ringen (5 χ 4 mm) gefüllt; das Rohrvolumen beträgt 380 ml. Mit Hilfe einer Dosierpumpe werden
570 ml/h Flüssigkeit — entsprechend einer Raumgeschwindigkeit
von 1,5 — bei einer Temperatur von 300° C dem Rohr zugeführt Aus 1786 g Einsatzgemisch
erhält man 1764 g rohes 2-Propyl-pent-4-en-l-al; durch fraktionierte Destillation gewinnt man daraus 1150 g
ίο 99,5%iges 2-Propyl-pent-4-en-l-aI (Ausbeute: 95%).
Der destillierte ungesättigte Aldehyd wird in einem Autoklaven partiell hydriert Die Reaktion wird bei einer
Temperatur von r=80°C und einem Wasserstoffdruck von PHl =80 bar in Gegenwart eines Palladium-Kontaktes
durchgeführt Die Hydrierung ist nach etwa 4 h beendet; das Hydrierprodukt wird vom Katalysator
abgetrennt. Es werden 1109 g reines 2-Propyl-pentanal
erhalten (Ausbeute: 95%), d;.e in einem für Oxidationen
geeigneten Glasrohr mittels Sauerstoffgas in Gegenwart von etwa i% Natriumsalz der Di-n-propylessigsäure
bei einer Temperatur von 7 = 30° C zur Di-n-propylessigsäure oxidiert werden.
Nach destillativcr Aufarbeitung werden 1122 g einer
99,l%igen Di-n-propylessigsäure erhalten (Ausbeute:
90%). Die aus 1840 g Vollacetal erhaltenen 1122 g Di-npropylessigsäure
entsprechen einer Gesamtausbeute von 78%. Für die destillierte Säure wurden folgende
Kennwerte ermittelt:

1840 g (10 Mol) n-Valeraldehyd-diallylacetal - das in
analoger Weise nach bekannten Methoden (vgl. z. B. Houben-Weyl, Bd. VII/1, S. 419) in guten Ausbeuten zugänglich
ist — werden in einer 1 m Kolonne mit 24 theoretischen Böden so destilliert, daß sich bei einem
Arbeitsdruck von 0,133 bar und einem Rücklaufverhältnis von 0,5 :1 eine Sumpftemperatur von etwa 180° C
und eine Kopf temperatur von etwa 140°C einstellt. Unter den Reaktionsbedingungen wird das Vollacetal
quantitativ gespalten, wobei hauptsächlich Allyl- 1-pentenyläther entsteht, der sich zum Teil bereits in 2-Propyl-pent-4-en-l-al
umlagert Die Ausbeute (bestimmt als Summe Allyl-1-pentenyläther, isomere Äther, 2-Propyl-pent-4-en-1-al)
beträgt 96%.

Claims (1)
1. Verfahren zur Herstellung von Di-n-propylessigsäure, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß
man
— n-Valeraldehyd-diallylacetal durch Abspaltung
eines Mols Allylalkohol je Mol n-Valeraldehyddiallylaeetal
in Allyl- 1-pentenyläther überführt,
— den Allyl-1-pentenyläther durch Erhitzen auf
250 bis 3500C in 2-Propyl-pent-4-en-l-al umlagert,
- das 2-Propyl-pent-4-en-l-al katalytisch partiell zum 2-Propylvaleraldehyd hydriert und
— den 2-Propylvaleraldehyd zur Di-n-propylessigsäure
oxidiert.
