Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf Umsetzunqsprodukte nines
Dialkylalkanphosphonats und eines substituierten Imidazolins
und diese enthaltende Schmiermittelzusammensetzungen.
Die Umsetzuncjsprodukte gc?mäß der Erfindung sind
Substanzen, die den Verschleiß vermindern und die Reibung herabsetzen.
Bei landwirtschaftlichen Maschinen, Baumaschinen, insbesondere
solchen zum Straßenbau, und industriellen Traktoren werden gegenwärtig multifunktionelle Schmiermittel
verwendet, und zwar insbesondere bei solchen Einheiten, bei denen ein gemeinsame;; Flüssigkeitsreservoir angewandt
wird. Diese Schmiermittel werden als multi funk tior.ell bezeichnet,
da sie verschiedenen Anforderungen gerecht werden
müssen, beispielsweise bei der Kraftübertragung, den
Differentialen, den EndI rieben, der hydrostatischen Kraftübertragung,
den hydraulischen Systemen, den Servolenksystemen,
und den mit Flüssigkeit arbeitenden Scheibenbremsen. Folglich sollte ein Schmiermittel, das in solchen
Vorrichtungen eingesetzt wird, möglichst folgende Eigenschaften aufweisen: oxidative und hydrolytische Stabilität,
gute verschleißverhindernde Eigenschaften und Mischbarkeit mit anderen Schmiermittelzusammensetzungen.
Zusätzlich sind die reibungmodifizierenden Eigenschaften
sehr wesentlich, um einen zufriedenstellenden Betrieb von Mehrscheibenübertragungskupplungen und mit öl beaufschlagten
Bremsscheibon sicherzustellen. Gute Eigenschaften bezüglich der Wasserempfindlichkeit sind besonders
bei Schmiermitteln, bei denen die Reibungscharakteristiken modifiziert sind, wesentlich, um deren Brauchbarkeit

durch Behandlung mit ei nor Rase und nachfo]qondem Ansäuern
hydrolisiert, wobei ein R'-substituiortes Monoalkylsäurephosphonat
gebildet wird, das dann mit einem Amin unter Bildung dos korrespondierenden Salzes durch
eine Säure-Base-Neutralisiorungsreaktion (I) umgesetzt
wird, wobei das saure Wasserstoffatom übertragen wird.

ist reversibel. Wird das Gleichgewicht gestört, wie durch Abdestillation dor Säure odor des Amins, können
die ursprünglichen Reaktanten uewonnon werden. Dies
trifft auf die durch eine Verdränqungsrcakl ion gebildeten Produkte gemäß dor Erfindung nicht zu. Aufgrund
der Reversibilität der Reaktion (3) können die gemäß der britischen Patentschrift hergestellten Salze geringe
Mengen an sauren Phosphonaten enthalten. Solche Verbindungen führen zu einer "umgekehrten" Acidität

Der bevorzugte Substituent R ist eine Alkylqruppe mit
1 bis 20 Kohlenstoffatomen, die vorzugsweise mit einer

Die Imidazo!inverbindungen können durch Umsetzung geeigneter
substituierter 1,2-Diaminoäthane mit Alkylcarbonsäuren
hergestellt worden, wie dies in der US-PS 2 267 965 beschrieben ist. Eine besonders bevorzugte
Säure ist die Ölsäure. Imidazoline, einschließlich solche der vorgenannten, sind im Handel erhältlich,
beispielsweise als Amino C, Amine 0 und Amine S der Firma Ciba-Geigy.
Das Imidazolin kann mil dom Phosphonat in solchen Anteilen
umgesetzt worden, daß das Imidazolin im Uberschuß vorliegt. Vorzugsweise wird die Umsetzung jedoch
in einem Molverhä1tnis von Imidazo]in zu Phosphonat
von 1,2:1 durchgeführt. Besonders bevorzugt ist die Umsetzung in stöchiomotrischen Mengen.
Die Umsetzung wird bei einer Temperatur von oberhalb
1500C durchgeführt. Es wird jedoch bevorzugt, in einem
Temperaturbereich zwischen etwa 160 und 2100C zu arbeiten, wobei Temperaturen zwischen etwa 170 und etwa
1900C bevorzugt werden. Es ist wesentlich, daß bei einer Temperatur oberhalb 1500C gearbeitet wird, da
Produkte, die durch Umsetzung bei niedrigeren Temperaturen erhalten worden, nicht die Verbesserungen bezüglich
der Wasserempfindlichkeit bringen, worauf nachstehend
näher eingegangen wird.
Die Reaktionszeit kann /.wischen 4 h und etwa 0,25 h
variieren, wobei kürzere Renktionszeiton boi höheren

Reaktionstemperaturen in Betracht kommen. Das Erhitzen kann bei verringertem Druck oder atmosphärischem Druck
erfolgen. Die Verwendunq einer inerten Atmosphäre, wie Stickstoff oder Kohlendioxid, zwecks Vermeidung eines
oxydativen Abbaus während der Herstellung, kann vorteilhaft sein.
Eine spektroskopische Analyse der Umsetzungsprodukte gemäß der Erfindung mittels C-1? NMR zeigt, daß eine
der Gruppen R des Dialkylalkanphosphonats an das Stickstoffatom in 1-Stellung des Imidazoline gebunden ist
und ein quaternäres Amin gebildet wird. Die Irreversibilität
dieser Reaktion wurde bereits diskutiert.
Die Umsetzungsprodukte gemäß der Erfindung werden in Mengen, die zu einer Verringerung des Verschleisses
oder einer Verbesserung der Haftreibung führen, in ölartige Grundzusammensetzungen eingebracht. Vorzugsweise
werden in die ölartige Grundzusammensetzung 0,001 bis etwa 7 Gew.-1?., insbesondere etwa 0,25 bis
etwa 1 Gew.-I und für viele Anwendungen insbesondere etwa 0,4 bis 0,25 Gew.-?. eingebracht.
Das ölartige Material kann jedes Material umfassen, das normalerweise unzureichende Antiverschleißeigenschaften
aufweist oder dessen Reibungscharakteristik verbessert werden soll. Insbesondere liegt das Anwendungsgebiet
bei folgenden ölartigen Materialien: Schmieröle, Fette, Brennstoffe, Wärmeaus tauschtlüs-
sigkeiten, hydraulische Flüssigkeiten und andere funktioneile Flüssigkeiten. Von besonderer Bedeutung
ist die Verbesserung bei Schmiermitteln, die Schmieröle, entweder in Form von Mineralölen oder syntheti-

sehen Ölen umfassen, odor in Form von Fetten, bei denen
eines der vorgenannten öle als Trägermntorial verwendet
wird. Im allgemeinen können Mineralöle, sowohl paraffinische, naphthenisehe oder deren Mischungen, die als
Schmiermittelträger verwendet werden, solche sein, die in einem geeigneten Schmierviskositätsboreich liegen,
beispielsweise zwischen etwa 45 SSU bei 37,80C (1000F)
und etwa 6000 SSU bei 37,80C (1000F), und vorzugsweise
bei etwa 50 bis etwa 250 SSU bei 98,9°C (2100F).
Diese Öle können Viskositätsindices zwischen unterhalb
0 und etwa 100 oder höher aufweisen. Viskositätsindices
zwischen etwa 70 und etwa 95 werden bevorzugt. Wird das Schmiermittel in Form eines Fettes angewandt, wird das
Schmieröl im allgemeinen in einer ausreichenden Menge vorgesehen, so daß die gesamte Fettzusammensetzung im
Gleichgewicht steht, nachdem die gewünschte Menge an Verdickungsmittel und anderer in die Fettformulierung
einzubringender Zusatzstoffe berücksichtigt wurden. Als Verdickungs- oder Gelierungsmittel können verschiedenste
Materialien Anwendung finden. Diese umfassen übliche Metallsalze oder Seifen, die in dem Schmiermittelträger in fettbildenden Mengen solchermaßen dispergiert
werden, daß sie der erhaltenen Fettzusammensetzung die gewünschte Konsistenz verleihen. Andere Verdickungsmittel,
die bei den Fettformulierungen verwendet werden können, umfassen Verdickungsmittel auf Nicht-Seifenbasis,
wie oberflächenmodifizierte Tone und Siliciumdioxide,
Polyarylharnstoffe, Calciumkomplexe und ähnliche
Materialien. Im allgemeinen werden Verdickungsmittel angewandt, die bei den erforderlichen Temperaturen
und der speziellen Umgebung nicht schmelzen und sich nicht lösen. Abgesehen davon können jedoch jegliche

niedrige Viskosität, ihren niedrigen Gießpunkt
und dergl. aus. Die llauptei genschaf t, die diese Kohlenwasserstoffe
charakterisiert, ist jedoch ihr Destillationsbereich.
Wie vorstehend angegeben wurde, liegt dieser Bereich insbesondere zwischen etwa 23,9 und etwa
399°C. Der Destillationsbereich eines bestimmten Brennstofföls
ist selbstverständlich schmäler, fällt jedoch
innerhalb die oben angegebenen Grenzen. Das Brennstofföl siedet im wesentlichen kontinuierlich innerhalb des

Unter den Brennstoffölen worden die Brennstofföle Nr.
1, 2 und 3 besonders in Betracht gezogen, die zu Ileizzwecken,
als Dieselbrennstoff, Benzin, Turbinenöl und
Düsenbrennstofföl verwendet werden. Die Brennstofföle
entsprechen im allgemeinen der Spezifikation ASTM
D396-48T. Spezifikationen für Dieselbrennstofföle sind
in ASTM D975-48T angegeben. Typische Düsenbrennstofföle
sind in MIL-F-5624B spezifiziert.
Wärmeaustauschflüssigkeiten auf der Basis von Mineralölen,
die besonders in Betracht zu ziehen sind, haben folgende Eigenschaften: hohe thermische Stabilität,
hohen Anfangssiedepunkt, niedrige Viskosität, hohe Wärmeübertragungscharakteristiken und geringe Korrosionsneigung

Die verschiodenon Kraftübertraqunqen haben Flüssigkeiten
mit deutlich unterschiedlichen Reibungscharakteristiken
erforderlich qemacht, so daß eine einzige Flüssigkeit
nicht alle Anforderunqen erfüllen kann. Die Flüssigkeiten,
die zur Verwendung bei der automatischen Kraft-Übertragung bei Personenwagen und leichten Γ,astwagen vorgesehen
sind, sind im ASTM Research Report D-2: RR 1005 "Automatic Transmission Fluid/Power Transmission Fluid
Property and Performance Definitions" definiert. Spezifikationen
für Flüssigkeiten für nieclriqo Temperatur
und Flugzeuge sind in der US-Government Specification
MIL-H-5606A angegeben.
Es ist darauf hinzuweisen, daß die; hier angegebenen
Zusammensetzungen auch andere Materialien enthalten
können. Beispielsweise können sie Korrosionsinhibitoren, Detergentien, Additive für extreme Drücke, Viskositätsindexverbesserer,
Antioxidantien, Antiverschleißmittel und dergl. enthalten. Diese Materialien stehen den erfindungsgemäß
eingesetzten Umsetzungsprodukten nicht hindernd gegenüber, vielmehr dienen diese Materialien
dazu, die Eigenschaften der Zusammensetzungen in bestimmten
Richtungen zu variieren.
Die Erfindung wird nachstehend anhand von Beispielen näher erläutert. Die Beispiele illustrieren die neuen
Umsetzungsprodukte gemäß der Erfindung und ihre Wirk samkeit als Schmiermittelverbesserer, insbesondere in

35 g 1 -(2-Hydroxyäthyl)-2-heptadecenylimidazolin in
400 ml Petroläther (Kp. 30 bis 600C) wurde chemisch mit wasserfreiem Calciumsuifat getrocknet. Der Petroläther
wurde durch Destillation entfernt und der homogene
Rückstand auf 150uC erhitzt und bei dieser Temperatur
1,5 h unter verringertem Druck von etwa 200 nun Hg gehalten, wobei ein langsamer Stickstoffstrom durchgeleitet
wurde. Das Reaktionsprodukt fiel als bernstein-
15 farbenes, sehr viskoses lialböl an.
Wie in Beispiel 1 wurde eine Mischung aus 5 g Dimethyloctadecylphosphonat
und 5 g 1-(2-Hydroxyäthyl)-2-heptadecenylimidazolin
1,5 h unter einem verringertem Druck von weniger als 0,1 mm Hg auf 1500C erhitzt. Das erhaltene
Produkt war bernsteinfarben, sehr weich und halbfest.

Unter einer Stickstoffatmosphäre wurden 2,9 g Dimethyloctadecylphosphonat
und 2,9 g 1 -(2-Hydroxymethyl)-2-heptadecenylimidazolin 2 h auf 130 bis 1400C erhitzt. Das

Wie in Beispiel 3 wurde eine Mischung aus 2 g 1-(2-Hydroxyäthyl)-2-heptadeceny]imidazolin
und 2 g Dimethyloctadecylphosphonat bei atmosphärischem Druck unter
Stickstoff 2 h erhitzt. Das Produkt war bernsteinfarben,
weich und halbfest.
Eine Mischung aus 25 g Dimethyloctadecylphosphonat und 25 g 1-(2-Hydroxyäthyl)-2-heptadecenylimidazolin wurde
etwa 2 h bei einem Druck von weniger als 1 mm Hg auf 1700C erhitzt, wobei ein sehr langsamer Stickstoffstrom
durch die Mischung gefühlt wurde. Der nach dem Abkühlen
erhaltene Rückstand war bernsteinfarben, sehr weich und wachsartig fest. Die Ausbeute betrug 47,8 g.
Ein aliquoter Teil des Produkts des Beispiels 1 wurde in einer Stickstoffatmosphäre unter verringertem Druck
von weniger als 1 mm Hg 0,5 h auf 2000C erhitzt. Das

wurde 2 h unter einem Druck von etwa 200 mm Hg auf 190°C erhitzt. Nach dem Abkühlen wurde ein bernsteinfarbenes,
viskoses, halbfestes Produkt erhalten.
Heispiel 9
Mine Mischung aus 35 g Dirnethyloctadecylphosphonat
und 3f> g 1- (2-Hydroxyoctndecenyl)-2-methylimidazolin
wurde 2,5 h unter verringertem Druck von weniger als 0, '>
mm Hg auf 1800C erhitzt, wobei der Zutritt von
Luft ausgeschlossen wurde. Nach dem Abkühlen wurde ein sehr weiches, festes Produkt erhalten.
B eis
Wie in Beispiel 2 wurden 39 g Diäthyloctadecylphospho-30
nat und 41 g 1 - {2-ilydroxyäthyl) -2-heptadecylimidazolin
zusammen unter Stickstoff unter einem Druck von weniger als 1 mm Hg 2 h auf 1700C erhitzt. Es wurde ein hell
bernsteinfarbenes, wachsartiges festes Produkt erhalten

Zu 45 <j Dibuty loctadecylpliosphonat, die unter Stickstoff
auf 190°C erhitzt wurden, wurden unter Rühren 35 Cj 1 -Methyl-2-heptadeceny 1 imidazolin zugegeben. Der
Druck wurde auf 50 mm Hg verringert und die Temperatur 2 h aufrechterhalten. Das erhaltene Produkt war ein sehr
viskoses oranges Öl.
10 Beispiel 12
Eine Mischung aus 35 g I) imethyloctadecylphosphonat und
40 μ des ImidazoLins, day durch Umsetzung von N-0-Ilydroxyäthyläthy
Lendiamin und isehensäure erhalten wurde
( 1 - ( 2-Hydroxyä thy L) -2-eicosany limida/.olin) wurde unter
Stickstoff 2,5 h und unter Kühren auf 195°C erhitzt.
Das keaktionsprodukt war ein gelblicher, wachsartiger Feststoff.
Zusammensetzungen, die 0,5 Gew.-% der Produkte der Beispiele
1 bis 6 und 99,5 Cew.-% eines Grundöls enthielten, wurden bezüglich der Wasserempfindlichkeit, der Verschleißeigcnschaften
und der F.rschütterungseigenschaften untersucht
.
Der International Harvester Water Tolerance Test ist in
der International Harvester Engineering Material Specification
als Engineering Research Test Method BT-7 beschrieben. Bei diesem Test ist die Klarheit oder Trübung
der Zusammensetzung nach Zusatz von Wasser das kritische Merkmal.

Dor Standard Shell I'our Ball Wear Test ist in der US-PS
3 423 316 beschrieben. Im allgemeinen werden drei Stahlkugeln
aus SAK 52-1DO Stahl in einer Kugelschale gehal-Ujh.
Eine vieiLc Kugel wird an einer Drehbahnvertikalenachse
angeordnet, mit den drei Kugeln in Berührung gebracht und gegen diese gedreht. Die Kraft, mit der die
vierte Kugel gegen die drei stationären Kugeln gehalten wird, wird gemäß der gewünschten Belastung variiert. Die
untersuchte Zusammensetzung wird in die Kugelschale gegeben und wirkt als Schmiermittel bei der Drehung. Am
Knde des Versuches werden die Stahlkugeln bezüglich des Abriebs untersucht. Das Ausmaß des Abriebs ist ein Maß
für das Schmiermittel bezüglich der Verschleißverhinderu
nq .
Beim Timken El' Test wird ein gehärteter Stahlring verwendet,
der gegen einer, anderen Stahlversuchsblock rotiert
wird, wobei das zu untersuchende Schmiermittel an der Kontaktfläche zwischen Ring und Block zugegeben wird.
Dieser Versuch und seine Anwendung sind in dem SAE Reference Paper Nr. 680607 angegeben.
Der John Deere Tractor Chatter Index Test ist in der US-PS 3 652 410 ausführlich beschrieben.

Aus den Werten der Tabelle ist ersichtlich, daß die Produkte
gemäß der Erfindung, die durch die Beispiele 5 und 6 repräsentiert werden, dem Grundöl gute verschleißverhindornde
Eigenschaften und gute Eigenschaften bezüglich
der Wassertoleranz verleihen. Es ist festzuhalten, daß Produkte, die bei ReaktionsLemperaturen bis zu und einschließlich
1500C hergestellt wurden, in dieser Hinsicht nicht zufriedenstellend sind. Dies zeigt das Kriterium
der Reaktionstemperatur von mehr als 150°C.

1. Umsetzungsprodukte eines Dialkylalkanphosphonats und

zwischen etwa 160 und etwa 2100C erhalten werden.
3. Umsetzungsprodukte nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet , daß sie bei einer Temperatur
zwischen etwa 170 und etwa 190"C erhalten werden.
4. Umsetzungsprodukte nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 3, dadurch gekonnzeichnet , daß sie durch
Umsetzung eines Dialkylalkanphosphonats und eines substituierten Imidazoline in stöchiometrischen Mengen erhalten
werden.

8. Umsetzungsprodukte nacli Anspruch 7, dadurch gekennzeichnet , daß das substituierte Imidazolin
1 -(2-Hydroxyäthy])-2-heptadcccnylimidazolin ist.
9. Schmiermittelzusammensetzung, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß sie ein ölartiges Medium und ein
Umsetzungsprodukt nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 8 in einer den Vorschleiß verbessernden Menge umfaßt.
10. Schmiermittelzusammensetzung nach Anspruch 9, dadurch
gekennzeichnet , daß das Umsetzungsprodukt in einer Menge zwischen etwa 0,001 und etwa 7 Gew.-% vorliegt

11. Schmiermittelzusammensetzung nach Anspruch 10, dadurch gekennzeichnet , daß das Umsoi.zungsprodukt in

12. Schmiermittelzusammensetzung nach Anspruch 11, dadurch
gekennzeichnet , daß das Umsetzungsprodukt
in einer Menge zwischen etwa 0,4 und etwa 0,75 Gew.-% vor 1iegt.
13. Schmiermittelzusammensetzung nach einem der Ansprüche
9 bis 12, dadurch gekonnzeichnet , daß das
10 ölartige Medium ein Mineralöl umfaßt.
14. Schmiermittelzusammensetzung nach einem der Ansprüche
9 bis 12, dadurch qe kennzeichnet , daß das ölartige Medium ein synthetisches Öl umfaßt.
