Description

Reibmassen in Gleitteilen müssen folgende Eigenschaften aufweisen
:
(1). einen hohen Reibbeiv.rert bzw. Reibungskoeffizient beim
(1). einen hohen Reibbeiv.rert bzw. Reibungskoeffizient beim
Gleiten; ·
(2) geringes Fading bei der Reibung (Verminderung des Reibbeiwertes
bei Erhöhung der Temperatur); ■ (3) hohe Abriebsbeständigkeit bzw. Verschleißfestigkeit;
(4) Geräuscharmut beim Gleiten;
(5) hohe mechanische Festigkeit;
(6) hohe Beständigkeit gegen Erhitzen und Festigkeit bei hohen Temperaturen und
(7) geringes Schüttgewicht.
Die herkömmlichen Reibmassen werden entweder unter Verwendung eines organischen oder eines anorganischen Bindemittels hergestellt.
Beispielsweise v/erden für die Herstellung von Brems-

und Kupplungsbelägen Asbestfasern, Graphit oder Metallspäne mit einem Kunstharz, wie einem Phenolharz, oder Kautschuk gebunden
und unter Druck verformt. Anorganische Reibmassen werden durch . Pulvermetallurgie aus Kupfer- oder Eisenpulver als Bindemittel
unter Zusatz von Graphit oder keramischem Material hergestellt.
Die organischen Reibmassen bestehen gewöhnlich aus 40 bis 70 Gewichtsprozent Fasermaterial, wie Asbestfasern, Bronzefasern
oder Glasfasern, 10.bis 30 Gewichtsprozent eines organischen Bindemittels, wie e.inem kautschukartigen Polymerisat oder
einem färbbaren Kunstharz, beispielsweise einem Phenolharz oder einem modifizierten Phenolharz und 5 bis 40 Gewichtsprozent
eines Reibungsmodifiziermittels, wie Graphit, Molybdändisulfid, Petrolkokspulver, Aluminiumoxid, Kieselsäure, Calciumcarbonat,
Bariumsulfat, Ton oder Zink, einem Metalloxid oder einem organischen Material, wie Kautschuk oder Nußschalenmehl, die
zur Steuerung des Reibbeiwertes und zur Verbesserung der Abriebsbeständigkeit zugesetzt werden.
Die anorganischen Reibmassen bestehen gewöhnlich aus 40 bis 80 Gewichtsprozent eines Metalls, wie einer Kupfer- oder
Eisenlegierung, und 20 bis 60 Gewichtsprozent mindestens eines Reibungsmodi/iziermittels, wie Graphit, Molybdändisulfit, Blei,
Wismut oder Antimon, einer schwefelhaltigen Metallverbindung,
wie Bariumsulfat, Kupfersulfid oder Eisensulfid, einem Metall-,
oxid, wie Bleioxid, Nickeloxid oder Kobaltoxid, einer Selenverbindung, wie V/olframselenid, einem harten Metall, wie
Molybdän, Yfolfram, Chrom, oder einer Eisenlegierung, oder keramischem
Material, wie Nickelsäure oder Aluminiumoxid.

Diese bekannten Reibmassen zeigen jedoch einen erheblichen Fading-Effekt und unbefriedigende Abriebsbeständigkeit.
Der- Erfindung liegt die Aufgabe zugrunde, eine Reibmasse mit ausgezeichneten Eigenschaften.auch bei starker Belastung zu
schaffen. Die Lösung der Aufgabe beruht auf dem überraschenden Befund, daß Mikrokugeln aus amorphem Kohlenstoff ein ausgezeichnetes
Reibungsmodifiziermittel darstellen, das der Reibmasse verbesserte Fading-Beständigkeit, einen hohen Reibbeiwert
selbst bei hohen Temperaturen, verbesserte Abriebsbeständigkeit und Geräuscharmut beim Gleiten verleiht.
Die Erfindung betrifft somit den in den Ansprüchen gekennzeichneten
Gegenstand.
Die erfindungsgemäß verwendeten amorphen Kohlenstoffmikrokugeln
sind Mikroperlen mit einer Teilchengröße von 0,1 bis 1000, vorzugsweise 0,5 bis 200 Mikron und einem spezifischen
Gewicht von 1,3 bis 2,0, vorzugsweise 1,3 bis 1,7, oder Hohlkügelchen
mit einer Teilchengröße von 0,1 bis 1000, vorzugsweise 0,5 bis 200 Mikron und einem spezifischen Gewicht von
0,2 bis 1,3, vorzugsweise 0,7 bis 1,1. Diese Mikrokugeln bestehen aus Kohlenstoff, der eine unzureichend gewachsene
Kristallstruktur aufweist und nicht graphitisiert ist.
Die Mikrokugeln können durch thermisches Verkohlen von Mikrokugeln
hergestellt werden, die sich durch Erhitzen verkohlen lassen. Die Hohlkügelchen können durch Verkohlen von Hohlküwelchen
hergestellt werden, deren Schale oder Hülle sich durch

Erhitzen verkohlen läßt. Der innere Teil der eingesetzten Hohlkügelchen kann aus einem Gas, einer Flüssigkeit oder einem
Feststoff bestehen, die sich durch Verkohlen zersetzen läßt. Das Innere kann auch eine Lamellenstruktur aufweisen. Die Verkohlung
wird bis zu einer Temperatur durchgeführt, bei der noch
keine nennenswerte Graphitisierung der Kohlenstoffkomponenten
erfolgt. Die maximale Verkohlungstemperatur beträgt etwa 20000C. Die bevorzugte Verkohlungstemperatur liegt im Bereich
von 800 bis 15000C.
Beispiele für Verbindungen, die sich verkohlen lassen, sind hitzehärtbare Harze, wie Peche oder Phenolharze, vernetzte
hochmolekulare Verbindungen, wie Styrol-Divinylbenzol-Copolymerisate, oder organische hochmolekulare Verbindungen, die
durch chemische Behandlung in den unschmelzbaren Zustand überführt werden können.
Beispiele für die als Ausgangsvorbindungen verwendeten organischen
hochmolekularen Vorbindungen sind nachstehend aufgeführt: (1) Polymerisate mit Grundbausteinen der allgemeinen Formel I
in der R1 ein Wasserstoffatom, einen gegebenenfalls substituierten
Kohlemiasserstoffrcst, einen gegebenenfalls substituierten
Kohlenwasserstoffoxyrest, ein Ilalogenatom, eine Cyan- oder Hydroxylgruppe,
cine -OCOH oder* -COOR- Gruppe bedeutet, R2 ein

den Polynierisationsgrad angibt. Spezielle Beispiele für die Polymerisate
sind Polystyrol, Polyäthylen, Polypropylen, Polyvinylalkohol, Polyvinylacetat, Polyvinylchlorid, Polyvinyläthyläther,
Polyacrylsäure, Polymothylacrylat und Polyacrylnitril 5 (2) Polymerisate mit Grundbausteinen der allgemeinen Formel II
in dor R1 und Rp gegebenenfalls substituierte Kohlenwasserstoffreste,
gegebenenfalls substituierte Kohlenwasserstoffoxyreste,
Ilalogenatome, Cyan-, -OCOR- oder -COOR- Gruppen bedeuten, wobei
R_ ein Vassorstoffatom oder einen gegebenenfalls substituierten
Kohlenwasserstoffrest darstellt und η eine ganze Zahl bedeutet,
die den Polyincrisationsgrad angibt. Spezielle Beispiele für diese
Polymerisate sind Polyisobutylen, Poly-(tf-nßthylstyrol), Polyvinylidenchlorid,
Polymothylmethacrylat und Polyvinylidencyanid; (3) Polymerisate mit Grundbausteinen der allgemeinen Formel III

in der R1 ein Wasserstoffatom, einen gegebenenfalls substituierten
Kohlenwasserstoffrest, ein Ilalogenatom, eine Cyan-, -OCOR. odor -COOR^ Gruppe bedeutet, wobei R^ ein Wasserstoffatom odor
einen gegebenenfalls substituierten Kohlcnwasserstoffrest darstellt
und η eine ganze Zahl bedeutet, die don Polymerisations-

grad angibt.'Spezielle Beispiele für diese Polymerisate sind Polybutadien,
Polyisopren und Polychloropren;
(k) Copolymerisate aus 2 oder mohr monomeren Grundbausteinen
der allgemeinen Formeln I, II und III odor deren Pfropfcopolymerisate.
Spezielle Beispiele für die Copolymerisate sind Äthylen-Propylen-Copolynierisato,
Äthylen-Propylen-Dicyclopentadien-Terpolymerisate,
Styrol-Acrylnitril-Copolymerisate, Styrol-Acrylnitril-Butadien-Terpolymerisate,
Styrol-Butadien-Copolymerisato, Butylacrylat-Acrylnitril-Copolymcrisate und Vinylchlorid-Äthylen-Copolymerisate;
(5) Polyester, wie Polyäthylonterophthalat;
(6) Polyamide, wie Polycapramid (Nylon-6) oder Polyhexamethylendipolyamid
(Nylon-66);
(7) Polyurethane, wie Polyäthyien-methylen~bis-(4~phenyl)~
cai'bamat;
(8) Polyalkylonäther, wie Polyoxjiuothylon und Polyäthylonoxid;
(9) Polyphenylenoxide, wie Poly-(2,6-dimcthyl-1,'i-phenylenoxid);
(10) PolymeirLsate, die Formaldehyd als Grundbaustein enthalten,
wie XyIöl-Formaldehyd-, Styrol-Formaldehyd-, Phenol-Formaldehyd-,
Melamin-Formaldehyd- oder Harnstoff-Formaldehyd-Polykondensate;
(11) Polymerisate mit Bisphenol Λ Grundbausteinen, wie Bisphenol
A-Epichlorhydrin- oder Bisphenol A-Phosgen-Polykonden~
sat.e;
(12) ungesättigte Polyester aus einem Monomer, vie Diallylphthalat;
(13) andere Polymere, vie Polyphenylene, Polyxylolo, Polybenzimidazole

Von den vorgenannten verkohlungsfähigen Verbindungen sind Polystyrol,
Styrol-Divinylbenzol-Copolymerisate, Peche, Polyacrylnitril und dessen Copolymerisate sowie Polyphenylenoxide bevorzugt,
da sie leicht in den unschmelzbaren Zustand überführt werden und Kohlenstoffmikrokugeln in hoher Verkohlungsausbeute
liefern. Besonders bevorzugt sind Polystyrol .und Polystyrol-Di vinylbenzol-Copolymerisate·.
Die chemische Behandlung zur Überführung der organischen hochmolekularen
Verbindungen in den unschmelzbaren Zustand besteht zunächst in einer Behandlung mit Sauerstoff, Ozon, Schwefeltrioxid,
Schwefeldioxid, Schwefelsäure, Chlorsulfonsäure, Stickstoffdioxid,
Stickstoffmonoxid, Chlor, Brom oder Wasserstoffperoxid und gegebenenfalls einer weiteren chemischen Behandlung.
Bevorzugt ist die Behandlung mit Schwefeltrioxid, Schwefelsäure, Chlorsulfonsäure, Stickstoffdioxid oder Stickstoffmonoxid,
da die Überführung in den· unschmelzbaren Zustand rascher
erfolgt. Besonders bevorzugt ist die Behandlung mit Schwefeltrioxid, Schwefelsäure oder Chlorsulfonsäure.
Die -Reibmasse der Erfindung kann in an sich bekannter Weise hergestellt werden. Die Kohlenstoffmikrokugeln werden vorzugsweise
in einer Menge von 1 bis 30 Gewichtsprozent, bezogen aufdas
Gesamtgewicht der Reibmasse, verwendet. Bei Verwendung von Hohlkugeln zeichnet sich die Reibmasse durch besondere Geräuscharmut
beim Gleiten aus. Die Reibmasse der Erfindung behält den hohen Reibbeiwert selbst bei hohen Temperaturen bei,
und sie kann wiederholt verwendet worden, selbst bei rascher Verminderung der Geschwindigkeit eines bei hoher Gecchwindig- _j

keit fahrenden Fahrzeuges.

Das Beispiel erläutert die Erfindung»
50 Gewichtsteile PolystyrolkUgelchen mit einer durchschnittlichen Teilchengröße von 70 Mikron werden in einem Kolben vorgelegt
und unter Stickstoff als Schutzgas auf 800C erhitzt. Unter Schwenken des Kolbens wird Schwefeltrioxid zugesetzt,
und sodann wird wasserfreier Stickstoff 4 Stunden bei 300C in
einer Geschwindigkeit von 0,7 Liter/Minute in das Geraisch eingeleitet.
Nach beendeter Umsetzung werden die modifizierten PolystyrolkUgelchen durch Erhitzen im Stickstoffstrom in einer
Geschwindigkeit von 300°C/Minute bis auf 10000C carbonisiert.
Es werden amorphe Kohlenstoffhohlkugeln mit einer durchschnittlichen
Teilchengröße von 70 Mikron und einer Dicke der Schale von 10 Mikron erhalten. Das spezifische Gewicht der Teilchen
beträgt 0,96.
Unter Verwendung der Hohlkugeln wird eine Reibmasse hergestellt. Ferner wird zum Vergleich eine Reibmasse ohne die
Hohlkugeln hergestellt. Die Mengenverhältnisse der eingesetzten Verbindungen sind in der Tabelle angegeben.
