Körperimplantations-Material
Die Erfindung betrifft Materialien, die für die medizinische Implantation geeignet sind.
Aufgabe der Erfindung ist es, ein medizinisches Implantations-Material
zu schaffen, welches sich gegenüber menschlichem Körpergewebe chemisch neutral und
nicht toxisch verhält, bei hoher Festigkeit ein relativ geringes Gewicht aufweist, und das bei guter Sicherheit
gegen Ermüdung eine hohe Bruchfestigkeit aufweist.
Ferner gehört es zur Aufgabe der Erfindung, ein derartiges Material zu schaffen, das sich einfach in Form von Rohren,
N-Uhten, orthopädischen oder Dental-Implantaten od. dgl.
herstellen läßt.
Ferner gehört es zur Aufgabe der Erfindung, ein Material
der. oben genannten Art zu schaffen, weLches sich zu
Prothesen oder anderen Implantaten verarbeiten läßt,

deren Eigenschaften hinsichtlich Festigkeit, Porosität
und Steifiqkeit in verschiedenen Richtungen einen vorbestimmten
Wert aufweist, damit die daraus herzustellende Prothese oder Vorrichtung sich weitgehend den Bedingungen
an der Implantationsstelle im menschlichen Körper
anpassen läßt.
Erfindungsgemäß wird diese Aufgabe dadurch gelöst, daß
dieses Körperimplantations-Material bus mit Kunststoff
überzogener. Fasern besteht; und daß die Fasern zu der
fc aus Graphitfasern und Borfasern bestehenden Gruppe gehören.
Vorteilhafterweise wird als diese Fasern einhüllender Kunststoff ein medizinisch neutraler Kunststoff
wie Silikon verwendet. Auch Graphit verhält sich gegenüber dem menschlichen Körper medizinisch neutral.
Als Silikon läßt sich mit Vorteil eine handelsübliche medizinische Sorte von Organopolysiloxan verwenden. Die
als Stränge oder Verbindungen benutzten Graphitfasern sind ebenfalls ein bekanntes handelsübliches Erzeugnis
und außerdem mit unterschiedlichem Elastizitätsmodul
erhältlich. Bei diesen Fasern handelt es sich ganz allgemein um durch Erhitzung unter gesteuerten Temperaturen
und atmosphärischen Bedingungen graphitierte, gewebte
P oder ungewebte Textilien wie Nylon oder regenerierte Zellulose. Diese Graphitfasern sind so in dem Elastomer
eingeschlossen, daß ein im wesentlichen homogener Werkstoff gebildet wird. Die Fesern können in dem Kunststoff
vollständic: eingebettet sein. Durch Veränderung der räumlichen
Proportionen der Graphitfasern und des elastomeren Kunststoffes bzw. durch Veränderung des Faser-Elastizitätsmoduls
läßt sich die Festigkeit und Flexibilität des Implantats in weiten Grenzen einstellen. Außerdem kann man
cie Stärke und Flexibilität dadurch verändern, daß man die Richtung der Fasern nach bestimmten Gesichtspunkten

sich bei Prothesen und anderen Implantaten auf dem medizinischen Gebiet hauptsächlich deswegen durchgesetzt,
weil sie sich menschlichem Gewebe gegenüber neutral verhalten. Silikon-Elastomere haben jedoch
eine geringe Zugfestigkeit, so daß sie daher für
manche Implantate ungeeignet sind.
Im Rahmen der Erfindung lassen sich aber auch Implantate herstellen, die aus mit einem Silikon-Polymer
überzogenen Borfasern, oder aus mit einem Epoxydharz überzogenen Bor- oder Graphitfasern bestehen. Da jedoch
Epoxydharze gegenüber KÖrperqewebe nicht ausrei- chend
chemisch neutral sind, sollte ein aus Fasern und Epoxydharz bestehendes Implantat vollständig in
eine medizinisch einwandfreie Silikonsorte eingeschlossen sein. Borfasern sind genau wie Graphitfasern
bekennt und im Handel erhältlich. Es sei hier kurz engedeutet, daß man sie durch Ablagerung
von Bor auf dünnen Substraten wie Tungsten-Draht herstellen kann. Borfasern zeichnen sich vor allem
durch gute Dehnungs-, Kompressions- und Ermüdungsfestigkeit aus. Andererseits üben sie eine Rückwirkung
auf den menschlichen Körper aus. Trotzdem lassen sich Implantate unter Verwendung von Borfasern in manchen
Fällen verwenden. Wenn sichergestellt ist, daß die Borfasern vollständig von einem medizinisch neutralen
Silikon-Polymer eingeschlossen sind, kann man auch medizinisch körperneutrale Implantate unter Verwendung
von Borfasern herstellen.
Weitere Einzelheiten der Erfindung können der nachfolgenden Beschreibung einiger Ausführungsbeispiele in
Verbindung mit einer Zeichnung entnommen werden. Es zeigen: : ,

In Fig. 1 ist ein erfindungsgemäßes Implantat 1 dargestellt, wie es als Nagelelement zur Wiederherstellung
des korrekten Winkels zwischen Schenkelhals und Schenkelschaft eines menschlichen Schenkelknochens verwendet wird.
Die äußere Ausbildung des Implantats 1 ist an und für sicK bekannt; man unterscheidet zwischen einem.Nagelabschnitt
2 zum Einsetzen in den Schenkelhals und einen Schaftabschnitt 3, der von außen am Schenkelschaft befestigt
wird. Das gesamte Implantat 1 besteht aus in Silikongummi eingebetteten Graphitfasern 4, deren Faserachsen
parallel zur Längsachse sowohl des Nagelabschnittes
2 als auch des Schaftabschnittes 3 verlaufen. Als Silikongummi kann eine bewährte medizinische Silikon-Art verwendet
werden, beispielsweise die medizinische Silikongummisorte Nr. 382, wie sie von der Dow-Corning Corporation,
Midland / Michigan hergestellt wird.
Das Implantat 1 kann auf herkömmliche Weise als Formteil hergestellt sein. Dabei werden beispielsweise zuerst
die Graphitfasern 4 in eine geeignete Form eingelegt
und anschließend die Form mit Silikon gefüllt und schließlich die gesamte Formiüllunq bei einem geeigneten
Druck auf eine bestimmte Temperatur erhitzt, so daß der

Silikongummi polymerisiert. Das aus der Form herausgenommene Formteil kann, falls erforderlich, anschließend
auf einer Maschine oder in anderer Weise bearbeitet werden,
Das Implantat 1 hat eine extrem hohe Zug-, Druck- und Ermüdungsfestigkeit. Besonders die letzte Eigenschaft
ist von besonderer Bedeutung in der Medizin, weil die Hauptursache für viele Brüche von orthopädischen Implantaten
in Ermüdungserscheinungen der verschiedenen bish-er verwendeten Metall—Legierungen zu sehen ist.
Es hat sich gezeigt, daß das erfindungsgemäße Material
eine wesentlich höhere Ermüdungsfestigkeit aufweist, als
die derzeit bei Körperimplantaten verwendeten Legierungen.
Ein besonderer Vorteil ist, daß Graphitfasern sich mit
einem in weiten Grenzen unterschiedlichen Elastizitätsmodul herstellen lassen, und daß sie außerdem in Form
von gewebten oder ungewebten Textilien lieferbar sind. Somit läßt sich durcn Auswahl einer bestimmten Graphitfaser
sowohl die Festigkeit als auch die Elastizität des daraus herzustellenden Implantats so gestalten,
wie es für die vorgesehene Körperregion erforderlich ist.
Ein in Fig. 2 dargestelltes Implantat 5 weist eine Bauform
auf, mit der eti zur Verwendung als Knochenmark-Nagel
innerhalb des Schenkel-Knochenmarkkanals verwendet werden kann. Wie durch einen in Fig. 3 dargestellten
Schnitt ersichtlich ist, besitzt das Implantat 5 einen kleeblattohnlichen Querschnitt, und einen ähnlichen
Aufbau aus Graphitfasern und Silikonpolymer wie das zuvor beschriebene Ausführungsbeispiel. Beim vorliegenden
Implantat 5 ist davon abweichend jedoch eine innere Lage 6 aus Graphitfasern 7, deren Faserverlauf parallel
zur Länqsachse des Implantats 5 ausgerichtet ist, und

eine äußere Lage 8 aus Graphitfasern 9 vorhanden,
welche in Umfangsrichtung, also rechtwinklig zur Faserrichtung der inneren Lage 6 verlaufen. Dadurch
wird erreicht, daß dieses Implantat 5 sowohl in Längsrichtung als auch in Umfangsrichtung eine hohe
Festigkeit besitzt.
Ein in Fig. 4 dargestelltes weiteres erfindungsgemäßes
Ausführungsbeispiel besitzt die Form einer Schenkelhalsprothese IC. Diese Schenkelhalsprothese 10 weist
einen Kugelkopf 11 als Ersatz für den menschlichen W Schenkelhals, und ferner einen unteren Schaft 12 auf,
der im Knochenmark-Kanal des Schenkels befestigt wird.
Der Kugelkopf 11 besitzt Graphitfasern 13 mit nach allen
Richtungen verteiltem Faserverlauf, damit eine nach allen Richtungen gleichmäßige Festigkeit vorhanden
ist. Die Graphitfasern 13 innerhalb des Schaftes 12 verlaufen dagegen in Schaftrichtung. Der im Bereich
des Kugelkopfes 11 gewählte Silikonkuriststoff ist nicht
porös, während der für den Schaft 12 verwendete Kunststoff zumindest an seiner Oberfläche porös ausgebildet
ist, damit das Knochengewebe sich mit der Schenkelhalsk prothese 10 verbinden kann. Die Porosität im Bereich
des Schaftes 12 kann durc h entsprechende, bekannte Maßnahmen beim Einformen der Prothese erzielt werden.
In Fig. 5 ist in abgebrochener und geschnittener Darstellung
ein weiteres Ausführungsbeispiel der Erfindung in P'orm eines Implantats 14 dargestellt, bei dem Graphit-Fasern
15 in Epoxydharz 16 eingebettet sind. Epoxydharze sind als solche bekannt, und in Verbindung mit Graphitfasern
15 entsteht ein Implantat mit extrem hoher Festigkeit. Es muß jedoch sichergestellt sein, daß das
Epoxydharz gegenüber den' menschlichen Körpergewebe

einwandfrei isoliert wird; deshalb ist das Implantat 14 vollständig in eine äußere Schicht aus Silikongummi
17 eingebettet. Falls erforderlich, kann auch diese äußere Silikongummi-Schicht 17 Graphitfesern enthalten.
Abschließend sei bemerkt, daß in der vorliegenden Beschreibung nur einige Ausführungsbeispiele beschrieben
wurden, daß im Rahmen der Erfindung jedoch noch zahlreiche andere Abwandlungen möglich sind.
Zusammengefaßt betrifft die Erfindung ein Material zur
Herstellung von Prothesen oder anderen Körper-Implantaten, welches aus Graphit- oder Börfasern besteht, die in
einen medizinisch neutralen Kunststoff eingebettet bzw. von diesen überzogen sind. Der verbindende Kunststoff
kann eine medizinische Silikon-Polymersorte sein, oder aber ein anderer Kunststoff wie beispielsweise Epoxydharz,
welches abschließend mit eine.n medizinisch neutralen
Silikoni=,olymer überzogen wird. Ein daraus bestehendes
Implantations-Material hat wesentlich bessere mechanische
und klinische Eigenschaften als herkömmliche Materialien.

Claims (9)
- AnsprüchelJ Körperimplantations-Material, dadurch gekennzeichnet, laß dieses Material aus mit Kunststoff überzogenen Fasern besteht; und daß die Pasern zur Gruppe der Graphitfasern und/oder Borfasern gehören.
- 2. Material nach,Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß zumindest die äußere Oberfläche des Kunststoffes im wesentlichen neutral gegenüber menschlichem Körpergewebe ist.
- 3. Material nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, tiaß der Kunststoff zumindest teilweise aus einem Organopolysxloxan bef.teht.
- 4. Material nach mindestens einem der Ansprüche 1 - 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß der Kunststoff zumindest teilweise aus einem Epoxydharz besteht.
- 5. Material nach Anspruch 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die äußere Oberfläche ι
Crganopolysiloxan besteht.daß die äußere Oberfläche des Kunststoffes aus einem - 6. Material nach mindestens einem der Ansprüche 1-5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die äußere Oberfläche porös gestaltet ist.
- 7. Körperimplantat, insbesondere nach einem der Ansprüche 1-6, gekennzeichnet durch die Verwendung von aus in den vorstehenden Ansprüchen offenbartem Material.109887/02862138148
