Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft ein neues Verfahren zur
Herstellung von zum Teil bekannten N-Ary!harnstoffen, welche
bekanntermaßen als Herbizide verwendet werden können.
Es ist bereits bekannt geworden, daß N-Aryl-N'-alkyl-harnstoffe
aus Arylisocyanaten und Alkylaminen hergestellt werden können (vgl. z.B. Houben Weyl, Methoden der organischen
Chemie, Bd. VIII, Seite 157). Dieses Verfahren wird im allgemeinen angewendet, da Arylisocyanate in vielen Fällen
nach technisch gut realisierbaren Verfahren durch Nitrierung substituierte Aromaten, Reduktion der Nitrogruppe zur
Aminogruppe und Phosgenierung der Amine hergestellt werden können. Dieses Verfahren ist jedoch in der Technik dann nicht
brauchbar, wenn die Vorprodukte schlecht zugänglich sind und/oder nur nach teuren Verfahren hergestellt werden können.
Es ist*weiterhin bekannt, daß Phenylharnstoff aus N-Halogenbenzoesäureamid
und wäßrigem Ammoniak hergestellt werden kann (J.Chem.Soc.(London) 121, 205 (1922)). Dieses Verfahren hat
jedoch keinen Eingang in die Technik gefunden, da Umsetzungen mit'N-Halogenamiden nur in kleinen Ansätzen vorgenommen werden
sollten (vgl. Houben Weyl, Methoden der organischen Chemie,
Bd. 5/3, Seite 807 (1962)) und das Verfahren keinen Vorteil gegenüber der üblichen Umsetzung von Phenylisocyanat mit
Ammoniak bietet.

Es wurde nun gefunden, daß man die teilweise bekannten, herbizid wirksamen N-Arylharnstoffe der allgemeinen Formel
(I)
in welcher
X für Halogen oder Halogenmethoxy steht,

R1 für Wasserstoff, Alkyl mit 1-4 C-Atomen,
Hydroxyalkyl mit 1-4 C-Atomen oder Alkenyl
mit 2-4 C-Atomen steht und R2 für Alkyl mit 1-4 C-Atomen, Hydroxyalkyl
mit 1-4 C-Atomen oder Alkenyl mit 2-4
C-Atomen steht,
auf besonders einfache Weise, in sehr guten Ausbeuten und in hoher Reinheit erhält, wenn man Arylcarbonsäureamide
der allgemeinen Formel

in welcher

mit Alkali- oder Erdalkali-hypohalogenit, hergestellt aus Alkali- oder Erdalkalihydroxid und Halogen, in Gegenwart
von Wasser als Verdünnungsmittel bei Temperaturen zwischen 0 und 400C umsetzt und die wässrige Lösung mit Aminen

zwischen 30 und 1000C, umsetzt.
Es ist als überraschend zu bezeichnen, daß mit der besonders
einfachen Ausführungsform des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens unter Einsatz billiger und ungefährlicher Hilfsstoffe und
Verdünnungsmittel sehr gute Ausbeuten bei hoher Reinheit erzielt werden können.
Das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren weist eine Reihe von besonderen Vorteilen auf. So sind die erfindungsgemäß verwendbaren
Ausgangsstoffe zur Darstellung von Harnstoffen der allgemeinen
1 2 Formel (I),, in welcher X, n, R und R die oben angegebene
Bedeutung haben, in guter Ausbeute nach technisch günstigen Verfahren herstellbar. Dagegen ist für die Darstellung von
Isocyanaten, welche als Ausgangsstoffe für die Harnstoffe der allgemeinen Formel (I) dienen könnten, kein technisch
brauchbares Verfahren bekannt. Um z.B. 4-Trifluormethoxyphenylisocyanat
oder 3-Chlor-4-trifluormethoxyphenylisocyanat herstellen zu können, muß 4-Trifluormethoxybenzol
bzw. 3-Chlor-4-trifluormethoxybenzol nitriert, zum entsprechenden Anilin reduziert und phosgeniert werden.
Diese beiden Trifluormethoxybenzol-Derivate sind jedoch auf einfache, technisch vorteilhafte Weise durch Fluorierung der
entsprechenden Trichlormethoxybenzol-Verbindungen nicht herstellbar,
da Trichloranisol durch Seitenkettenchlorierung
von Anisol nicht darstellbar ist (vgl. J.appl.Cheni.3,409 (1953))
und o-Chlor-trichlormethoxybenzol nur in schlechten Aubeuten

in o-Chlortrifluormethoxybenzol umgewandelt werden Kann
(Zh. Obshchei Khim. 27, 518 (1957)). Weiterhin treten bei der Nitrierung disubstituierter Benzole häufig mehrere
Isomere auf, die zu uneinheitlichen Reaktionsprodukten führen (J.Gen.Chem. UDSSR (Engl.) 27,587, (1957)).
Dagegen lassen sich die bei dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren
eingesetzten Carbonsäureamide isomerenfrei darstellen. Das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren stellt somit eine Bereicherung
der Technik dar. '
Verwendet man 4-Trifluormethoxybenzoesäureamid, Natriumhypochlorit
und Dimethylamin als Ausgangsstoffe, so kann der Reaktionsablauf durch folgendes Pormelschema wiedergegeben-
werden:
1.NaOCl
Die Ausgangsstoffe gemäß Formel (II) sind teilweise bekannt
(vgl. z.B. J.Gen.Chem. UDSSR (Engl.)27,587 (1957)). Die noch nicht bekannten Verbindungen können nach einem nicht zum
Stande der Technik gehörenden Verfahren hergestellt werden:
So wird das als Ausgangsstoff verwendbare 3-Chlor-4-trifluormethoxybenzoesäureamid
hergestellt, indem man 4-Trichlormethoxybenzoesäurechlorid
zunächst mit Chlor in 3-Chlor-4-trichlormethoxybenzoesäurechlorid und dieses mit wasserfreier
Flußsäure und Antimonpehtachlorid als Katalysator bei erhöhter Temperatur, vorzugsweise bei Temperaturen zwischen
120 und 1500C, und bei Drucken zwischen 2 und 50 Atmosphären,
vorzugsweise zwischen 10 und 30 Atmosphären*zu 3-Chlor-4-trifluorinethoxybenzoylfluorid
umsetzt. Eine besonders einfache Ausführungsform dieses Verfahrens besteht darin, durch Einwirkung
von Thionylchlorid auf 4-Methoxybenzoesäure 4-Methoxybenzoylchlorid
herzustellen, dieses(ohne es zu isolieren) in derselben Apparatur durch Einwirkung von Chlor in Gegenwart

von RadikalMldnernr wie UV-Licht oder Peroxiden, bei
erhöhter Temperatur in 4-Trichlormethoxybenzoylehlorid
umzuwandeln und aus diesem durch weitere Einwirkung von
Chlor in derselben Apparatur in Gegenwart eines Kernkatalysators, wie AntimonpentaChlorid, 3-Chlor-4-trichlor-•methoxybenzoylchlorid
herzustellen. Dieses Zwischenprodukt reagiert unter Weiterverwendung des Katalysators mit Flußsäure unter den oben angegebenen Bedingungen zu 3-Chlor-4-trifluormethoxybenzoylfluorid,
welches in bekannter Weise mit wäßrigem Ammoniak in das entsprechende Benzoesäureamid
übergeführt werden kann. Der geschilderte Reaktionsablauf
kann durch das folgende Formelschema wiedergegeben werden:

Als Beispiele für die erfindungsgemäß verwendbaren Säureamide
der Formel (II) seien besonders 4-Trifluormethoxybenzoesäureamid
und 3-Chlor-4-trifluormethoxybenzoesäureamid genannt.
Die als Ausgangsstoffe zu verwendenden Amine sind durch die
Formel (III) allgemein definiert. Besonders geeignete Amine
sind Methylamin, Dimethylamin, Methyläthylamin, n-Propylamin, iso-Propylamin, n-Butylamin, see-Butylamin, Methyl-n-butylamin,
Diäthanolamin.
Die Alkali- oder Erdalkali-hypohalogenit-Lösungen werden
zweckmäßigerweise frisch bereitet aus Alkalihydroxyden, .
wie Natrium- oder Kaliumhydroxyd oder Erdalkalihydroxyden,
wie Kalzium- oder Bariumhydroxyd, und Halogen, wie Chlor oder

Brom. Vorzugsweise verwendet man eine natronalkalische
Chlorlauge (Natriumhypochlorit-Lösung).
Als Verdünnungsmittel wird bei dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren
vorzugsweise Wasser verwendet.
Die Reaktionstemperaturen können in einem größeren Bereich variiert werden. Die Reaktionstemperatur wird bis zur Auflösung
des Arylcarbonsäureamids in der alkalischen Chlörlauge bei Q-40°C, vorzugsweise bei 20-300C,gehalten. Nach Zusatz
des Amins arbeitet man bei 30-1000C, vorzugsweise bei
50-700C.
Bei der Durchführung des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens werden etwa äquimolare Mengen an Arylcarbonsäureamid der Formel (II),
an Alkali- oder Erdalkali-hypohalogenit sowie an Amin der Formel (III). eingesetzt, jedoch schadet ein Aminüberschuß '
nicht. Die Harnstoffe der Formel (I) sind in Wasser nur schwer
löslich und fallen als kristallisierte Festprodukte an; sie
können in üblicher Weise isoliert und gereinigt werden.
Die nach dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren aus Arylcarbonsäureamiden
und Älkylaminen herstellbaren N-Aryl-N'-alkylharnstoffe
der Formel (I) sind als Wirkstoffe mit hoher herbizider Wirksamkeit
bekannt und können daher als Unkrautvernichtungsmittel verwendet werden (vgl. z.B. DOS 1 909 521).
Das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren läßt sich nicht nur zur
Herstellung der Harnstoffe gemäß Formel (i) einsetzen,
sondern ganz allgemein zur Herstellung von ring-unsubstituierten
und ring-substituierten N-Arylharnstoffen. Als Ausgangsstoffe ungeeignet sind lediglich solche Benzoesäureamide,
welche als Ringsubstituenten gegenüber alkalischer Hypohalogenit-Lösung empfindliche Gruppen, wie z.B. Formyl-
oder Amino-Gruppen, enthalten. Solche Gruppen können jedoch, mit
geeigneten Reaktionspartnern umgesetzt, gegen alkalische
Hypohalogenitlösung geschützt und abschließend wieder regene-

riert werden. Technisch besonders vorteilhaft ist das Verfahren allerdings zur Herstellung von N-Arylharnstoffen
der Formel (I).

1000 ml einer Natriumhypochloritlösung, hergestellt aus
300 g Natriumhydroxid und 152 g Chlor, gibt man zu 430 g
4-Trifluormethoxybenzoesäureamid in 2000 ml Wasser. Die
Temperatur wird bei 250C gehalten. Wenn sich alles gelöst
hat, gibt man 200 ml einer 40-50 $-igen wässrigen Dimethylaminlösung
zu und erwärmt 1/2 bis 1 Stunde auf 60-80°C. Der Harnstoff fällt aus, wird abgesaugt und kann durch
Lösen in Methanol und Ausfällen mit Wasser gereinigt werden. Man erhält 363 g N-4-Trifluormethoxyphenyl-N1,N'-dimethylharnstoff;
Fp 132-134°C.
In analoger Weise können auch die folgenden Verbindungen hergestellt werden:

Die als Ausgangsprodukte verwendeten Arylcarbonsäureamide können wie folgt hergestellt werden;
230 g p-Anissäure und 230 g Thionylchlorid werden unter Stickstoff allmählich auf 600C erwärmt. Das Reaktionsgemisch wird 10 Stunden lang bei 6Q0C gerührt. Danach
wird überschüssiges Thionylchlorid im Vakuum abgezogen.
Das zurückbleibende Produkt wird bei 1500C unter UV-Bestrahlung
chloriert. Die Reaktion ist nach Steigerung der Temperatur auf 190 - 2000C nach insgesamt etwa
5 Stunden beendet. Das zurückbleibende Produkt wird
mit 5g Antimonpentachlorid versetzt. Bei 80-1000C wird
Chlor bis zur Aufnahme der berechneten Menge (1 Mol-Äquivalent)
eingeleitet. Man erhält 453 g Rohprodukt, ngO : 1,5825. Das Rohprodukt wird in einem Stahlautoklaven
zu 500 ml wasserfreier Flußsäure gegeben und unter Rühren auf 14O°C erhitzt. Der entstehende Chlorwasserstoff
wird bei etwa 20 atü entspannt. Nach Beendigung der Gasentwicklung wird das Produkt im
Vakuum destilliert: Kp14J 76-790C.
Man erhält 300 g 3-Chlor-4-trifluormethoxybenzoylfluorid,
n^° : 1,4545.

400 g 3-Chlor-4*-trifluormethoxybenzoylfluorid werden
bei Raumtemperatur unter Kühlung zu 1400 ml halbkonzentrierter
Ammoniaklösung getropft. Nach beendeter Reaktion wird abgesaugt und der Filterrückstand neutralgewaschen.
Man erhält 373 g J-Chlor^-trifluoraethoxybenzoesäureamid,
Fp: 100 - 1020C.

Claims (2)
1) Verfahren zur Herstellung von N-Ary!harnstoffen der

X für Halogen oder Halogenmethoxy steht,
η für die Zahlen 0-5 steht,
R1 für Wasserstoff, Alkyl mit 1-4 C-Atomen,
Hydroxyalkyl mit 1-4 C-Atomen oder Alkenyl
mit 2-4 C-Atomen steht und R für Alkyl mit 1-4 C-Atomen, Hydroxyalkyl
mit 1-4 C-Atomen oder Alkenyl mit 2-4
C-Atomen steht,
durch Umsetzen von Arylcarbonsäureamiden mit Alkali- oder Erdalkalihypohalogeniten und Aminen, dadurch gekennzeichnet,
daß man Arylcarbonsäureamide der Formel
(II)
in welcher
X und η die oben angegebene Bedeutung haben,
mit Hypohalogeniten, hergestellt aus Alkali- oder Erdalkalihydroxid und Halogen, in Gegenwart von Wasser als
Verdünnungsmittel, bei Temperaturen zwischen 0 und 400C
umsetzt und diese wässrige Lösung mit Aminen

zwischen 30 und 100°C, umsetzt.
2) Verfahren gemäß Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß
man die Umsetzung mit Hypohalogeniten (1. Stufe) bei Temperaturen zwischen 20-300C, die Umsetzung mit Aminen
(2. Stufe) bei 50-7O0C durchführt.
3) Verfahren gemäß Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man als Alkalihypohalogenit eine frisch bereitete wässrige
Natriumhypochlorit-Lösung einsetzt.
4) Verfahren gemäß Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man als Arylcarbonsäureamid das 3-Chlor-4-trifluormethoxybenzoesäureamid
der Formel
-CO-NH2 (IV)
einsetzt.
5) Verfahren zur Herstellung von 3-Chlor-4-trifluormethoxybenzoesäureamid
der in Anspruch 4 angegebenen Formel, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man 4-Methoxybenzoesäure durch
Umsetzung mit Thionylchlorid in 4-Methoxybenzoylchlorid
überführt, dieses - ohne es zu isolieren - durch Einwirkung von Chlor in Gegenwart von Radikalbildnern, wie UV-Licht
oder Peroxiden, bei höherer Temperatur, vorzugsweise bei Le A 13 798 . - 12 -

Temperaturen zwischen 130 und 200 C, in 4-Trichlormethoxybenzoylchlorid
umwandelt, dieses mit Chlor in Gegenwart eines Kernkatalysators, vorzugsweise Antimonpentachlorid,
"bei Temperaturen zwischen 80 und 1000C, zu 3-Chlor-4-trichlormethoxybenzoyichlorid
umsetzt, und dieses unter Weiterverwendung des Katalysators in einem Autoklaven
bei Drucken zwischen 2 und 50 Atmosphären, vorzugsweise zwischen 10 und 30 Atmosphären, und bei Temperaturen
zwischen 120 und 1500C, mit Flußsäure unter Bildung von 3-Chlor-4-trifluormethoxybenzoylfluorid reagieren läßt, welches man schließlich mit Ammoniak umsetzt.
