Die Erfindung betrifft gelartige Membranen keramische Materialien
enthaltend für elektrochemische Zellen.
Lithium-Ionen-Batterien gehören zu den aussichtsreichsten Systemen
für mobile Anwendungen. Die Einsatzgebiete reichen dabei von
hochwertigen Elektronikgeräten (z. B. Mobiltelefone, Camcorder) bis
hin zu Batterien für Kraftfahrzeuge mit Elektroantrieb.
Diese Batterien bestehen aus Kathode, Anode, Separator und einem
nichtwäßrigen Elektrolyt. Als Kathode werden typischerweise
Li(MnMez)2O4, Li(CoMez)O2, Li(CoNixMez)O2 oder andere Lithium-
Interkalations und Insertions-Verbindungen verwendet. Anoden kön
nen aus Lithium-Metall, Kohlenstoffen, Graphit, graphitischen Koh
lenstoffen oder andere Lithium-Interkalations und Insertions-
Verbindungen oder Legierungsverbindungen bestehen. Als Elektrolyt
werden Lösungen mit Lithiumsalzen wie LiPF6, LiBF4, LiClO4, LiAsF6,
LiCF3SO3, LiN(CF3SO2)2 oder LiC(CF3SO2)3 und deren Mischungen
in aprotischen Lösungsmitteln verwendet.
Gelartige Membranen, erhalten durch Immobilisierung flüssiger Lithi
umsalzlösungen (z. B. Lithiumsalz gelöst in Mischung aus organi
schen Lösungsmitteln) in einer Polymermatrix (z. B. Polyacrylnitril),
sind bekannt. In JP 10284091 werden Polymermembranen für Lithi
um-Ionen-Batterien aus Polyacrylnitril (PAN) und Polyvinylidenfluorid
(PVDF) beschrieben. Ein Prototyp einer Batterie mit LiMn2O4-
Kathode und Graphit-Anode und einem auf Polyacrylnitril basieren
den Elektrolyten wird von Abraham et.al. (Electrochim. Acta, 1998,
2399-2412) beschrieben. Sie weisen gute Leitfähigkeiten bei Raum
temperatur auf.
Die beschriebenen Membranen haben eine ionische Leitfähigkeit in
der Größenordnung von 10-3 S cm-1 bei Raumtemperatur. Sie sind
jedoch alle durch geringe chemische und mechanische Stabilität bei
Temperaturen oberhalb Raumtemperatur gekennzeichnet.
Die Verwendung von Zeolithen in gelartigen Membranen wird von
Scrosati (Solid State Ionic Mater., 1994, 111-117) beschrieben. Es
wird der Einfluß der Membran auf die Lithium-Metalloberfläche unter
sucht.
Einer Poyethylenoxid-Matrix wurde von Appetecchi et.al. (J. Electro
chem. Soc., 1998, 4126-4132) zur Reduzierung der zunehmenden
Passivierung des Lithiums keramische Pulver wie γ-LiAlO2 zugesetzt.
Dieses Gemisch weist jedoch 2 gravierende Nachteile auf. Die opti
male Arbeitstemperatur liegt mit 80°C zu hoch und die Leitfähigkeit
mit 0,6-1,0 10-4 S cm-1 ist erheblich zu niedrig.
Aufgabe der vorliegenden Erfindung ist es deshalb, einen Elektroly
ten mit verbesserter Stabilität und Lithium-Ionen-Leitfähigkeit zur
Verfügung zu stellen.
Die erfindungsgemäße Aufgabe wird gelöst durch eine gelartige
Membranen auf Polymerbasis, wobei das Polymer ausgewählt ist aus
der Gruppe Polyacrylnitril, Polymethylmethacrylat, Polyvinylchlorid,
Polyvinylsulfon, Polyethylenglycoldiacrylat, Polyvinylpyrolidon, Po
lyvinylendifluorid oder deren Mischungen enthaltend keramisches
Material, ausgewählt aus der Gruppe Aluminiumoxid, Siliciumoxid,
Titanoxid oder Zirkonoxid und deren Mischungen.
Es wurde gefunden, daß die Verarbeitung von nanokristallinen kera
mischen Pulvern zur Erhöhung der Stabilität des Systems führt. Das
nanokristalline keramische Material wird in Größenordnungen von 1
bis 9% des Gewichts der Membran, bevorzugt zwischen 5 und 7%,
zugesetzt.
Als Elektrolyte können alle herkömmlichen Leitsalze und Lösungs
mittel für elektrochemische Zellen verwendet werden. Als Elektrolyte
können Lösungen von LiPF6, LiBF4, LiClO4, LiAsF6, LiCF3SO3,
LiN(CF3SO2)2 oder LiC(CF3SO2)3 und deren Mischungen in aproti
schen Lösungsmitteln wie EC, DMC, PC, DEC, EC, PC, BC, VC, Cy
clopentanone, Sulfolane, DMS, 3-Methyl-1,3-oxazolidine-2-on, DMC,
DEC, γ-Butyrolacton, EMC, MPC, BMC, EPC, BEC, DPC, 1,2-
Diethoxymethan, THF, 2-Methyltetrahydrofuran, 1,3-Dioxolan, Me
thylacetat, Ethylacetat und deren Mischungen verwendet werden.
Nachfolgend wird ein allgemeines Beispiel der Erfindung näher er
läutert.
In Abhängigkeit von der Zusammensetzung des Leitsalzes stehen
grundsätzlich zwei Arten von Membranen zur Verfügung. Es werden
Lösungen von LiPF6 oder LiClO4 in einer Mixtur aus Ethylencarbo
nat/Dimethylcarbonat (EC/DMC) verwendet, oder Lösungen von
LiC(CF3SO2)3 (Lithiummethid) in EC/DMC.
Besonders geeignet sind gelartige Membranen auf Basis von Po
lyacrylnitril (PAN), Polymethylmethacrylat (PMMA) oder Polyvinyli
denfluorid (PVDF). Es werden nanokristalline keramische Materialien
eingesetzt. Die Verwendung von Al2O3 ist besonders bevorzugt.
Mit einer Membran aus Polyacrylnitril (PAN) mit LiPF6 als Leitsalz und
Ethylencarbonat (EC) und Dimethylcarbonat (DMC) als Lösungsmittel
wird die Leitfähigkeit untersucht. Es wird die Leitfähigkeit dieser
Membran bei Temperaturen oberhalb der Raumtemperatur, bevor
zugt zwischen 40°C und 80°C, über einen Zeitraum von 1600 Stun
den im Vergleich zu einer Membran aus PAN, LiPF6, EC/DMC mit
Al2O3 gemessen. Bei Membranen ohne keramische Füllmaterialien
wird nach 800 Stunden eine starke Degradation festgestellt. Bei den
mit Al2O3 gefüllten Membranen wird eine gleichbleibende Leitfähigkeit
beobachtet.
Diese gelartigen Membranen können in elektrochemischen Zellen,
bevorzugt in Batterien, besonders bevorzugt in Lithium-Ionen-
Batterien, eingesetzt werden.
Claims (8)
1. Gelartige Membran auf Polymerbasis, wobei das Polymer ausge
wählt ist aus der Gruppe Polyacrylnitril, Polymethylmethacrylat,
Polyvinylchlorid, Polyvinylsulfon, Polyethylenglycoldiacrylat, Po
lyvinylpyrolidon, Polyvinylendifluorid oder deren Mischungen ent
haltend keramisches Material, ausgewählt aus der Gruppe Alumi
niumoxid, Siliciumoxid, Titanoxid oder Zirkonoxid und deren Mi
schungen.
2. Membran gemäß Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß sie
Nanokristalle enthält.
3. Membran gemäß der Ansprüche 1 bis 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet,
daß sie keramisches Material in Konzentrationen zwischen 1 und
9% des Gewichts der Membran enthält.
4. Membran gemäß der Ansprüche 1 bis 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet,
daß das keramische Material in Konzentrationen zwischen 5 und
7% des Gewichts der Membran enthalten ist.
5. Membran gemäß der Ansprüche 1 bis 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet,
daß Polyacrylnitril, Polymethylmethacrylat, Polyvinylidenfluorid
oder deren Mischungen als Polymermatrix und Aluminiumoxid als
keramisches Material eingesetzt werden.
6. Verwendung von gelartigen Membranen gemäß der Ansprüche 1
bis 5, zur Stabilisierung der Leitfähigkeit bei Temperaturen zwi
schen 40°C und 80°C.
7. Verwendung der gelartigen Membranen gemäß der Ansprüche 1
bis 5 in elektrochemischen Zellen.
8. Verwendung der gelartigen Membran nach Anspruch 7 in Batteri
en und sekundären Lithiumbatterien.
