Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf Metallpulver, insbesondere feinste Metallpulver, die eine große Oberfläche
und ein niedriges Schüttgewicht haben.
Metallpulver von extremer Feinheit haben einen weiten Anwendungsbereich» Sie werden beispielsweise als
Verstärkerfüllstoffe für Kunststoffe und Kautschuk, als Katalysatoren, als Raketentreibstoffe, als Pigmente,
!Füllstoffe, in der Metallkeramik, als Lötmittel usw. verwendet. Sie eignen sich besonders gut zur Herstellung
von Verbundwerkstoffen auf anorganischer und organischer Basis und für die Verstärkung von polymeren
Bindematerialien.
Feine Metallpulver können nach verschiedenen bekannten Verfahren hergestellt werden, z.B. durch Kondensation
der Dämpfe, durch Ausfällung aus Lösungen, durch Zersetzung oder Reduktion von Metallsalzen oder -oxyden
und durch schnelles Kühlen von geschmolzenem Metall. Bei einem wirksamen und allgemein angewendeten Verfahren
zur Herstellung von Metallpulvern wird mit einem elek-
20· tri3chen Lichtbogen gearbeitet. Bei diesem Verfahren

wird das Metall in die Anode eines elektrischen Lichtbogens von großer Stromstärke geblasen und unter der
Einwirkung des Lichtbogens verdampft. Die Dämpfe werden dann kondensiert, wobei das Metallpulver gebildet wird.
Die nach diesem Verfahren hergestellten Metallpulver bestehen aus im wesentlichen kugelförmigen Teilchen..
Bei gewissen Anwendungen von Metallpulvern sind Flocken den kugelförmigen Teilchen vorzuziehen. Wenn" beispielsweise
ein organisches oder anorganisches Bindematerial P 10 mit Metallflocken unter Bildung eines verbundwerkstoffs
verstärkt wird, ergibt die überlappende Anordnung der Flocken eine bessere Verstärkung, als sie bei Verwendung
von kugelförmigen Teilchen möglich ist. Die sich überlappenden Flocken können ferner eine wirksame Sperre
gegen das Eindringen von Flüssigkeiten und Gasen bilden» Diese Sperre ist sehr vorteilhafi bei der Herstellung
von Vakuumdichtungen, die bei hohen Temperaturen im Einsatz sind. Die Überlappung der Metallflocken in
Verbundwerkstoffen erhöht außerdem die Wärmeleitfähigkeit und die elektrische Leitfähigkeit des Verbundwerkstoffs.
ψ Es ist bekannt, daß mechanisches Mahlen im allgemeinen
ein billigeres Verfahren zur Herstellung von Metallpulvern als die Kondensation von Dämpfen oder die
chemischen Verfahren ist. Bei den bekannten Mahlverfahren werden beispielsweise Planetenkugelmühlen und
Abriebkugelmühlen verwendet. Die bisher durch mechanisches Mahlen hergestellten Metallpulver haben jedoch
den Nachteil einer kleinen Oberfläche und eines hohen Schüttgewichts«
Die Bestimmung des Schüttgewichts ist eine vorteilhafte
und einfache Methode zur Ermittlung des Zustandes der Unterteilung eines Metalls in Pulverform, Diese Messung
kann leicht vorgenommen werden, indem eine bekannte Menge des Metallpulver in einen Meßzylinder gegeben

und der Meßzylinder gerüttelt wird, "bis das Pulvervolumen,
das mit dem Zylinder gemessen wird, konstant bleibt.
Die Oberflächengrößen von feinteiligen Metallen, die beispielsweise durch Stickstoffadsorption bestimmt wird,
ist ebenfalls ein brauchbarer Maßstab für den Grad der Unterteilung des Metallpulvers. Die Messungen des
Schüttgewichts und der Oberfläche stehen jedoch nicht genau in einer Wechselbeziehung. Es wird angenommen,
daß dies verschiedenen Einflüssen, z.B. der Teilchenform, die die beiden Messungen in verschiedener Weise beeinflussen,
zurückzuführen ist.
Es wurde gefunden, daß Metallpulver mit niedrigem Schüttgewicht und großer Oberfläche und großer Energie
wertvolle Eigenschaften haben. Geeignete Metallpulver können durch Mahlen in einer organischen Flüssigkeit
in Gegenwart eines organischen Mahlhilfsstoffs hergestellt werden.
Gegenstand der Erfindung ist ein Metallpulver, das ein Schüttgewicht von weniger als 1 g/cm und eine Oberfläche
von wenigstens 1 m /g hat. Das Pulver hat ferner
Oberflachenvorzugsweise eine/Energie von wenigstens 40 erg/g.
Gegenstand der Erfindung ist ferner die Herstellung von Metallpulvern, die ein Sohüttgewicht von weniger als
1 g/cnr und eine Oberfläche von wenigstens 1 nf/g haben,
das dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, daß man Metalle in einer organischen Flüssigkeit in Gegenwart eines Mahlhilfsstoffs
in einer Schwingmühle mahlt, die eine Schwingamplitude von wenigstens 2 mm und eine Schwingfrequenz
von wenigstens 1000/Minute, vorzugsweise von wenigstens 2500/Minute hat.
Als Schwingmühle wird vorzugsweise eine Kugelschwingmühle verwendet, jedoch sind auch Stabschwingmühlen

oder andere ähnliche Schwingmühlen geeignet. Die Schwingmühle
wird vorzugsweise magnetisch angetrieben, jedoch kann der Antrieb auch mechanisch oder hydraulisch sein·
Die Metallpulver gemäß der Erfindung haben vorzugsweise ein Schuttgewicht von weniger als 0,5 g/cm , eine Oberfläche
von wenigstens 2 m /g und eine Oberflächenenergie von wenigstens 100 erg/g.
Die Oberflächenenergie der Metallpulver wird definiert als die Adsorptionswärme von n-Butanol aus n-Heptan
und kann mit einem Strömungs-Mikrokalorimeter gemessen,

Als organische Mahlflüssigkeiten werden vorzugsweise
Flüssigkeiten verwendet, die unter 5000O sieden, eine Viskosität unter 600 cS bei 37?80C und eine Oberflächenspannung
von weniger als 72 Dyn/cm bei 25 C haben. Die Mahlflüssigkeit hat vorzugsweise eine Viskosität von
weniger als 30 cS, insbesondere von weniger als 3 cS bei 37,80C. Besonders bevorzugt wird eine Viskosität
von/P c3?rber 37,80C. G-eeignet, als organische Flüssigkeit
ten sind die Kohlenwasserstoffe, z.B. n-Heptan, Isooctan, Toluol, Hexadeoan, Cyclohexan und durch. Destillation
von Erdöl erhaltene Kohlenwasserstofffraktionen. Als organische Flüssigkeiten eignen sich ferner die meisten
flüchtigen sauerstoff-, halogen-, stickstoff- und schwefelhaltigen Flüssigkeiten, z.B. Isopropylalkohol
und Tetrachlorkohlenstoff. Flüssigkeiten, die mit dem Metall unter den Behandlungsbedingungen reagieren,
dürfen natürlich nicht verwendet werden.
Das Verfahren gemäß der Erfindung ist auf alle Metalle
anwendbar, die gemahlen werden können. Bevorzugte Metalle sind'Aluminium, Kupfer, ÜbergangsmetalIe, wie Eisen,
Kobalt, Nickel, Chrom und Molybdän, und Legierungen dieser Metalle. Besonders bevorzugt als Metalle werden

Das Mahlen sollte vollständig unter der Oberfläche der organischen Flüssigkeit durchgeführt werden. Dies
geschieht vorzugsweise durch vollständiges Füllen des Mahlraumes der Schwingmühle mit der Mahlflüssigkeit
und dem organischen Mahlhilfsstoff und anschließende Zugabe des zu mahlenden Metalls« Geeignet sind Mahlhilf
sstoffe, von denen bekannt ist, daß sie eine Schmierwirkung auf das ungemahlene Metall ausüben. Die deutsche
Patentschrift (Patentanmeldung P 16 07 454.7)
der Anmelderin beschreibt das Mahlen in einem die Tragfähigkeit und das Druckaufnahmevermögen verbessernden
organischen Zusatz. Es wurde gefunden, daß organische Zusatzstoffe mit Schmierwirkung, die nicht als Zusätze
zur Erhöhung der Tragfähigkeit und der Druckaufnahmefähigkeit anerkannt sind, der organischen Mahlflüssigkeit
zugesetzt werden können. Beispiele geeigneter Zusätze mit Schmierwirkung sind die Fettsäuren und
ihre Ester, z.B. Palmitin-, Olein-, Stearinsäure und Cetylalkohol und Ester, z.B. die Vinylester dieser
Säuren, beispielsweise Vinylstearat.
Bekanntlich variiert die Wirksamkeit eines schmierenden Zusatzes in Abhängigkeit von dem zu schmierenden Metall,
und es ist wichtig, daß der schmierende Zusatz unter spezieller Berücksichtigung des zu mahlenden Metalls
gewählt wird. Beispielsweise gehört Palmitinsäure zu den bevorzugten schmierenden Zusätzen für Aluminium und
Vinylstearat zu den bevorzugten schmierenden Zusätzen
30 für Kupfer.
Es wurde überraschenderweise gefunden, daß die gemäß der Erfindung hergestellten Metallteilchen eine gute
Tragfähigkeit und Druckaufnahmefähigkeit haben. Diese Eigenschaft macht die Pulver wertvoll für die Herstel-

lung von verstärkten serbstschmierenden Kunststofflagern,
z.B0 Nylonlagern, die Bisen als Füllstoff enthalten»
Die Metallpulver können auch zur Herstellung der Verbundwerkstoffe des Typs verwendet werden, der in der
5 deutschen Patentschrift (Patentanmeldung
P 17 69 098o1) der Anmelderin beschrieben ist. Die Metallpulver sind auf Grund ihrer Natur auch sehr wertvoll
in der Metallkeramik, als Füllstoffe für Kunststoffe im allgemeinen, um beispielsweise Kunststoffgegenständen
ein metallisches Aussehen zu geben, als Verstärkerfüllstoffe für Kautschuk, als Katalysatoren
usw.
Eine überraschende Eigenschaft der Pulver gemäß der Erfindung ist ihre teilweise oleophile Natur und ihre
Fähigkeit, Fette zu verdicken. Die Menge des feinen Metallpulvers, die zur Verdickung eines Schmieröl-Grundöls
zwecks Herstellung eines Fetts erforderlich ist, hängt von der Art des Grundöls und von der erforderlichen
Konsistenz des Fettes ab. ffür die meisten Zwecke wird eine Menge bis 50 Gew.-fo, im allgemeinen 15 bis
40 Gew.-fö, bezogen auf das fertige Fett, verwendet.
Als Grundöle können Mineralöle oder Syntheseöle verwendet werden. Geeignet als Mineralöle sind raffinierte,
aus Erdöl erhaltene Mineralöle, beispielsweise solche
mit einer Viskosität im Bereich von 2 bis 50 cS, vorzugsweise 4 bis 40 cS bei 99°C«
Als Syntheseöle eignen sich beispielsweise organische Ester, Polyglykoläther, Polyphenyläther, fluorierte
Kohlenwasserstoffe, Silicatester, Siliconöle und ihre Gemische.
Die wichtigste Klasse von Syntheseölen bilden die organischen flüssigen Polyester, insbesondere die neutralen
Polyester., die eine Viskosität im Bereich von 1 bis
30 cS bei 990O haben. Der Ausdruck "Polyester" bezeich-

net Ester, die wenigstens zwei Esterbindungen pro Molekül aufweisen. Der Ausdruck "neutral" dient zur Bezeichnung
eines vollständig veresterten Produkts. Geeignete Polyester sind "beispielsweise flüssige Diester
von aliphatischen Dicarbonsäuren und einwertigen Alkoholen (z.B. Dioctylsebacat, Dinonylsebacat, Octylnonylsebacat
und die entsprechenden Azelate und Adipate), die flüssigen Diester von aliphatischen Diearsonsäuren
und Phenolen (z.B. die in den britischen Patentschriften 1 059 955, 1 058 906, 1 044 550 und 1 044 883 und in
der britischen Patentanmeldung 31 249/65 beschriebenen) und komplexere Polyester (z.B. die in den britischen
Patentschriften 666 697, 743 571, 780 Θ34, 861 962, 933 721, 971 901 und 986 068 und in den britischen
Patentanmeldungen 38 165/64 und 31 249/65 der Anmelderin beschriebenen).
Die feinen Metallpulver können nach verschiedenen Verfahren in die Fette eingearbeitet werden. Vorzugsweise
erfolgt die Einarbeitung des feinen Metallpulvers in ein Fett unmittelbar nach dem Mahlen. Wenn jedoch das
feine Metallpulver einige Zeit vor der Zugabe zum Fett hergestellt wird, wird es vorzugsweise in einem luftdichten
Behälter gelagert, um eine Schädigung zu ver-.1 indem.
Die Aufschlämmung eines feinen Metallpulvers kann beispielsweise
wie folgt in ein Fett umgewandelt werden:
a) Die Mahlflüssigkeit wird abfiltriert. Der erhaltene
Filterkuchen wird beispielsweise in einer Kolloidmühle gemahlen und das erhaltene Pulver in das Öl
eingerührt. Das erhaltene Fett wird durch Mahlen in der Kolloidmühle fertigbehandelt.
b) Jie Kahlflüssigkeit wird schnell abgedampft, um die
Bildung eines Metallpulverkuchens zu vermeiden, und das erhaltene Pulver wird in das Öl eingerührt und

das Fett durch Mahlen in der Kolloidmühle fertigbehandelt.
c) Das Öl wird der Aufschlämmung des feinen Metallpulvers zugesetzt und die Mahlflüssigice it abdestilliert„
d) Das Öl wird der Aufschlämmung des feinen Metallpulvers zugesetzt und das Gemisch in einem Homogenisator
(beispielsweise einem Manton-Gaulin-Homo- · genisator) so "behandelt, daß Temperaturen "bis 14O0C
oder darüber entstehen. Die Temperatur muß so hoch sein, daß die Mahlflüssigkeit abgetrieben wird.
e) Das Metall kann auch direkt im Grundöl für das Fett gemahlen werden. Beispielsweise kann ein niedrigsiedendes,
niedrigviskoses mineralisches Schmieröl verwendet werden, das eine niedrige Oberflächenspannung
und eine Viskosität bis 600 cS bei 38 0 hat. Das Mahlen kann bei erhöhten,Temperaturen bis
4000C durchgeführt werden.

können1 Pette mit einer einzigartigen Kombination von Eigenschaften hergestellt werden..
Unter gewissen Umständen kann es vorteilhaft sein, dem Metall vor oder nach dem Mahlen Dispergiermittel zuzu-

setzen. Auf diese Weise kann die Dispergierung der
feinen Metallpulver beschleunigt und verbessert werden. Ferner können den Schmierfetten gemäß der Erfindung
Viskositätsindexverbesserer, Metalldeaktivatoren, Korrosionsschutzmittel,
Antioxydantien usw. zugesetzt werden.
Die Metallpulver können ferner als Verstärkerfüllstoffe für Kunststoffe und Elastomere verwendet werden. Ferner
eignen sie sich als Zusätze für Anstrichmittel und Brennstoffe.
Die Metallpulver gemäß der Erfindung werden im folgenden Beispiel weiter beschrieben.
Verschiedene Metalle wurden in n-Heptan, das verschiedene Schmierstoffzusätze enthielt, unter Verwendung
einer "Megapact"-Mühle (Hersteller Pilamec Limited) gemahlen. In dieser Mühle bestehen die Mahlräume aus
Stahlzylindern von 38 mm Innendurchmesser und 38 cm Länge. Sie sind mit gehärteten Stahlkugeln von. 6,35 mm
Durchmesser fast gefüllt. Die Mühle ist mit einem Elektromotor von 1/4 HP versehen. Die Schwingung kann
v-on 1 bis 4 mm eingestellt werden. Im Betrieb wurde jeder Zylinder vollständig mit n-Heptan gefüllt, in
dem der Schmierstoffzusatz enthalten war, worauf die Stahlkugeln und 10 bis 50 g Metallpulver, dessen Teilchen
ein Sieb einer Maschenweite von 50 bis 300 ix passierten, zugesetzt wurden. Die Enden wurden dann
mit Metallkappen, die mit G-ummidichtungsringen versehen
waren, verschlossen, worauf bei einer Schwingamplitude von 4 mm und einer Schwingfrequenz von 3000/Minute
gemahlen wurde. Hach dem Mahlen wurden die Kugeln aus
der Aufschlämmung aus dem Metallpulver, dem n-Heptan und Schmierstoffzusatz abgesiebt, worauf das behandelte
Metallpulver durch Filtration, Waschen und Trocknen abgetrennt wurde. Die Eigenschaften der Metallpulver
35 sind in der folgenden Tabelle angegeben.

Claims (1)
- Patentansprüche1. Feinteiliges Metallpulver, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es ein Schüttgewicht von weniger als 1 g/cnr und eineOberfläche von wenigstens 1 m /g aufweist.2. Metallpulver nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß sein Schüttgewioht weniger als 0,5 g/cnr und seine Ober-fläche wenigstens 2 m /g betragen.5. Metallpulver nach Ansprüchen 1 und 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es eine Oberflächenenergie von wenigstens 4o erg/g, vorzugsweise von wenigstens 100 erg/g, besitzt.4. Metallpulver nach Ansprüchen 1 bis 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es feinteiliges Aluminium, Kupfer, ein Übergangsmetall oder eine Legierung dieser Elemente ist.5. Verfahren zur Herstellung von Metallpulvern mit einem Schüttgewicht von weniger als 1 g/cnr und einer Oberfläche von wenigstens 1 m /g, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man das Metall in einer organischen Flüssigkeit in einr Vibrationsmühle mit einer Amplitude von wenigstens 2 mm un^ einer Vibrationsfrequenz von wenigstens 1000 Zyklen pro Minute in Gegenwart eines organischen Mahlhilfsmit-20 tels vermahlt.6. Verfahren nach Anspruch 5* dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß mit Vibrationsmühlen gearbeitet wird, deren Amplitude wenigstens 3 mm beträgt und die vorzugsweise mit einer Vibrationsfrequenz von wenigstens 2500 Zyklen pro Minute25 arbeiten.7. Verfahren nach Ansprüchen 5 und 6, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß als organisches Mahlhilfsmittel Fettsäuren, Fettsäureester oder Fettalkohole eingesetzt werden, wobei als909836/ 1 106Fettsäure Palmitin-, Olein- oder Stearinsäure und als Fettsäureester Vinylester bevorzugt sind.8. Verfahren nach Ansprüchen 5 bis 7* dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß in Vibrationskugelmühlen gearbeitet wird.9· Verfahren nach Ansprüchen 5 bis 8, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß Aluminium, Kupfer, übergangsmetalle oder deren Legierunjn dem Verfahren unterworfen werden.10. Verfahren nach Ansprüchen 1 bis 8, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß Eisen, Chrom, Nickel, Molybdän oder Legierungen dieser Metalle dem Verfahren unterworfen werden.909836/1 106
