oder aliphatische Kohlenwasserstoffreste mit 1 bis 6 Kohlenstoffatomen sein können.
Erdalkalisalze von Thiophosphonsäuren, die durch Hydrolyse von Phosphorsulfid-Kohlenwasserstoff-Reaktionsprodukten
erhalten werden, sind verbreitet verwendete Reinigungs- und Dispergierzusätze für
Schmiermittel in Verbrennungsmotoren. Ferner werden in der USA.-Patentschrift 2 784 208 Monomethylester
von C10- bis C36-Phosphonsäuren mit
Reinigungseigenschaften in Motorölen beschrieben. Die erfindungsgemäß herstellbaren Monohydroxyalkylthiophosphonate
stellen aschefreie Reinigungsund Dispergiermittel für Schmieröle dar, die eine hervorragende Wirksamkeit aufweisen. Sie sind nicht
nur als Schmierölzusätze in ausgezeichneter Weise geeignet, sondern können auch als Zusätze zu Treibstoffen,
insbesondere als Zusätze zur Verhinderung der Vereisung verwendet werden.
Das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren zur Herstellung der Monohydroxyalkylthiophosphonate ist dadurch
gekennzeichnet, daß man ein Alkylenoxyd oder ein Alkylencarbonat mit einer Thiophosphonsäure der
allgemeinen Formel

in der R und X die vorstehend angegebene Bedeutung haben, in an sich bekannter Weise umsetzt.
Die Alkylenoxyde reagieren mit den Thiophosphonsäuren in Abwesenheit von Katalysatoren in
praktisch äquimolaren Mengen unter Bildung von Monohydroxyalkylthiophosphonaten der obigen Formel.
Als Alkylencarbonate sind z. B. Äthylencarbonat oder Propylencarbonat verwendbar.
Die erfindungsgemäß als Ausgangsprodukte verwendeten Thiophosphonsäuren können in nicht beanspruchter
Weise wie folgt erhalten werden:

Kohlenwasserstoffen mit P2S5 bei erhöhter Temperatur
Reaktionsprodukte der Kohlenwasserstoffe mit Phosphorpentasulfid erhalten. Obgleich eine große
Vielzahl von Kohlenwasserstoffen, z. B. aliphatisch substituierte Arylverbindungen und arylsubstituierte
aliphatische Verbindungen zur Herstellung der erfindungsgemäß eingesetzten Thiophosphonsäure verwendet
werden kann, werden im allgemeinen Olefine benutzt. Schmierölfraktionen stellen eine weitere
bevorzugte Substanzklasse dar, die mit P2S5 zu einem
Produkt umgesetzt werden kann, das nach der unten beschriebenen weiteren Behandlung in Hydroxyalkylthiophosphonate
übergeführt werden kann.
Die mit P2S5 umgesetzten olefinischen Kohlenwasserstoffe
enthalten mindestens 12 Kohlenstoffatome. Polymerisate von Monoolefinen, wie Isobutylenpolymerisate,
Butylenpolymerisate, Propylenpolymerisate und Mischpolymerisate von Monoolefinen,
z. B. Propylen-Isobutylen-Mischpolymerisate, werden zur Umsetzung mit P2S5 besonders bevorzugt.
Im allgemeinen werden Monoolefinpolymerisate und -mischpolymerisate mit einem durchschnittlichen
Molekulargewicht zwischen etwa 250 und 50 000 verwendet, wobei diejenigen mit einem mittleren

Eine Polybutenthiophosphonsäure wurde aus einem Polybuten mit einem mittleren Molekulargewicht von
etwa 940 nach dem im Beispiel 1 angewendeten Verfahren hergestellt. Das erhaltene Schmierölraffinat
hatte eine Neutralisationszahl von 23,1. 1300 g dieser Polybutenthiophosphonsäure wurden mit 40 g
(0,56 Mol) 1,2-Butylenoxyd nach dem gleichen Verfahren
wie im Beispiel 1 umgesetzt, nur wurde das Butylenoxyd mittels eines Tropftrichters zugesetzt.
Bei dieser Umsetzung wurde ein Monohydroxybutylpolybutenthiophosphonat der Formel erhalten:

Ungefähr 56,251 einer Polybutenthiophosphonsäure,
die in analoger Weise wie im Beispiel 1, jedoch aus einem Polybuten mit einem Molgewicht von 940 erhalten
worden war, wurden in Ansätzen von je 6000 g mit Äthylenoxyd in einem 12 1 fassenden Dreihalskolben
umgesetzt, der mit Rührer, Gaseinleitungsrohr und Thermometer versehen war. Die Luft wurde aus
dem System entfernt, indem es unter Hindurchleiten von Stickstoff auf 93 0C erwärmt wurde. Nach dem
Anbringen eines mit Trockeneis-Aceton gekühlten Dewarschen Rückflußkühlers wurde Äthylenoxyd mit
so ausreichender Geschwindigkeit eingeleitet, daß schwacher Rückfluß_ eintrat. Der Stickstoffstrom
wurde während des Äthylenoxydzusatzes auf wenige Blasen gedrosselt. Als starker Rückfluß des Äthylenoxyds
einsetzte, wurde die Zufuhr abgebrochen und das Reaktionsgemisch noch ungefähr 2 Stunden am
Rückfluß sieden gelassen, um eine vollständige Umsetzung zu gewährleisten. Der Überschuß an Äthylenoxyd
wurde dann aus dem Reaktionsgemisch entfernt, indem der Stickstoffstrom vergrößert und 2 Stunden
lang bei etwa 93 0C lauf en gelassen wurde. Nach 2 Stunden Waschen mit Stickstoff wurde das Produkt
auf Raumtemperatur abgekühlt. Das Verfahren wurde wiederholt, bis 56,25 1 Monohydroxyäthylpolybutenthiophosphonat
erhalten waren. Die Analyse des Produktes ergab die folgenden Werte:
375 g (0,18 Mol) der im Beispiel 1 hergestellten Polybutenthiophosphonsäure wurden in einen Dreihalskolben
gegeben, der mit Rührer, Friedrichschem Kühler und einem Trichter versehen war, der bis unter
die Oberfläche der Säure reichte. 50 ecm (0,72 Mol) Propylenoxyd wurden tropfenweise bei etwa 90° C
innerhalb von 2,5 Stunden zugesetzt. Der Überschuß an Propylenoxyd wurde eine weitere Stunde bei 100 0C

Einen weiteren Strukturbeweis dieser Substanz als Mono-(2-hydroxyäthyl)-polybutenthiophosphonat ergab
das Infrarotspektrum.
Außer denjenigen, deren Herstellung in den obigen Beispielen beschrieben wurde, sind die folgenden
Verbindungen wirksame Schmierölreinigungszusätze: Monohydroxybutyl - polybuten (M = 1200) - thiophosphonat,
Monohydroxyamyl-[propylen-butylen-mischpolymerisat (M = 1100)]-thiophosphonat, Monohydroxyhexyl
- polybuten (M = 940) - thiophosphonat, Monohydroxyoctyl-polybuten(M = 780)-thiophosphonat,
Monohydroxypropyl-polybuten (M = 1500)-thiophosphonat und Mono- (2 -hydroxyäthyl)- poly buten
(M = 1500)-thiophosphonat(M = Molgewicht).
Die erfindungsgemäß herstellbaren Monohydroxyalkylthiophosphonate sind Reinigungsmittel und
Dispergiermittel in einer großen Vielzahl von Schmierölfraktionen, wie z. B. paraffinischen und naphthenischen
Destillatfraktionen und Rückstandsölen. Die Schmieröle, denen die Monohydroxythiophosphonate
zugesetzt werden, haben eine SUS-Viskosität zwischen
50 und 1000, gewöhnlich jedoch zwischen 70 und 300, bei 37,8°C.
Die Monohydroxyalkylthiophosphonate werden den Schmierölen in Mengen zwischen 0,2 und 10,0 Gewichtsprozent,
besonders zwischen 1,0 und 5,0 Gewichtsprozent, zugesetzt. Die Überlegenheit der erfindungsgemäß
herstellbaren Verfahrensprodukte geht aus den folgenden Vergleichsversuchen hervor.
Ein SAE-10 W-30-Motoröl, das ein Monohydroxyäthylthiophosphonat als Reinigungs- und Dispergiermittel
enthielt, hatte die Zusammensetzung:

Dieses SAE-10W-30-Ö1 wurde sowohl dem Prüfverfahren Chevrolet S-II als auch der längeren Ausführung
der Prüfung Chevrolet L-4 unterworfen, die die Bezeichnung L-4-1252 hat.
In der folgenden Tabelle sind die Ergebnisse der Chevrolet-S-II- und Chevrolet-L-4-Prüfungen mit dem
obigen SAE-10 W-30-Motoröl, das ein Monohydroxyäthylpolybutenthiophosphonat als Dispergiermittel
enthält (»Schmiermittel A«), und mit einem 10W-30-Motoröl, angegeben, das eine Zusatzmischung aus
Bariumerdölsulfonat, sulfuriertem Bariumalkylphenolat und Zinkdialkyldithiophosphat enthält (»Schmiermittel
B«). Das Vergleichsöl, das der Vorschrift MIL-L-2104A (Supplement I) entsprach, enthielt
0,75 Gewichtsprozent Barium und 0,088% Zink, während das 10W-30-Ö1, das Monohydroxyäthylpolybutenthiophosphonat
als Dispergiermittel enthält, 0,29 Gewichtsprozent Bariumgehalt und 0,1 Gewichtsprozent
Zinkgehalt hatte.
Die obigen Ergebnisse zeigen, daß Mischungen des Öls lOW-30, die Monohydroxyäthylpolybutenthiophosphonat
als Dispergiermittel enthalten, sowohl im Betrieb bei tiefer als auch bei hoher Temperatur eine
ausgezeichnete Schmierwirkung haben.
Die Wirksamkeit von Monohydroxyäthylpolybutenthiophosphonat als Reinigungsmittel wurde ferner bei
der Flugzeugölreinigungsprüfung gezeigt, die mit einem CFR-Motor mit hoher Geschwindigkeit ausgeführt
wird.
Die Leistung des Schmiermittels wird durch das negative Bewertungsverfahren ermittelt; ein Teil des
Motors, der klar oder sonst in ausgezeichnetem Zustand ist, erhält den Zahlen wert 0, während der Wert 10
den schlechtesten Zustand des entsprechenden Teils kennzeichnet. Die Gesamtschädigung ist die Summe
der einzelnen Schädigungswerte der Motorenteile.
Das bei diesem Versuch verwendete Grundöl bestand aus einem paraffinbasischen Rückstand, der mit
Propan von Asphalt befreit, mit Furfurol gereinigt, mit einem Lösungsmittel entwachst und über Ton
filtriert worden war; das Grundöl hatte einen Viskositätsindex von 96,6 und eine SS U-Viskosität
von etwa 120 bei 99° C. Dem öl wurde ferner 4,4'-Methylen-bis-2,6-di-tert.-butylphenol
als Alterungsschutzmittel zugesetzt.

Bei der Flugzeugölreinigungsprüfung ergab das Monohydroxyäthylpolybutenthiophosphonat enthaltende
Schmiermittel einen wesentlich saubereren Motor als das Grundöl oder das handelsübliche öl,
das das Zusatzgemisch von Magnesium- und Zinkalkylphenolat als Reinigungsmittel enthielt.
Bei einem weiteren Vergleichsversuch wurde Mono - (hydroxyäthyl) - polybutenthiophosphonat in
bezug auf seine Reinigungseigenschaften in Motorölen mit Monomethylpolybutenthiophosphonat verglichen.

durch Umsetzung von P2S5 mit einem Polybuten vom
Molekulargewicht = 940, Wasserdampfhydrolyse des erhaltenen Produktes und Abtrennung der anorga

nischen Phosphorsäuren von der Polybutenthiophosphonsäure erhalten worden war. Der Monomethylester
wurde durch Umesterung zwischen Trimethylphosphit und einer in ähnlicher Weise hergestellten
Polybutenthiophosphonsäure dargestellt.
Die beiden Zusatzstoffe wurden 10W-30-Motorölrezepturen, die äquivalente Mengen Bariumalkylphenolat,
Zinkdialkyldithiophosphonat und basisches Bariumerdölsulfonat enthielten, in solcher Menge zugesetzt,
daß ein äquivalenter Phosphorgehalt von 0,022 °/0 erzielt wurde. Die Rezepturen wurden dann
nach dem CLR-Verschmutzungs-Prüfversuch (beschrieben von W. E. Partridge und W. F.
Ritcheske, »1961 SAE International Congress and Exposition of Automotive Engineering«, Detroit,
Januar 1961) miteinander verglichen, wobei die folgenden Ergebnisse erzielt wurden:

Claims (1)
- Patentanspruch:Verfahren zur Herstellung eines Monohydroxyalkylthiophosphonats der allgemeinen Formel:R' R"R — P — O — C-C- OHOHH Hin der R ein Alkyl-, Alkenyl-, Cycloalkyl-, Aryl-, Aralkyl- oder Alkarylrest mit mindestens 12 Kohlenstoffatomen ist, X Schwefel oder ein Gemisch von Schwefel und Sauerstoff ist und R' und R" Wasserstoff oder aliphatische Kohlenwasserstoffreste mit 1 bis 6 Kohlenstoffatomen sein können, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man ein Alkylenoxyd oder ein Alkylencarbonat mit einer Thiophosphonsäure der allgemeinen FormelR-PC=X)(OH)1in der R und X die vorstehend angegebene Bedeutung haben, in an sich bekannter Weise umsetzt.In Betracht gezogene Druckschriften:
