Abstract

La presente invención se relaciona con un procedimiento para formar una punta sobre un catéter intravenoso que comprende los pasos de:a) Montar un catéter tubular sobre un mandril con el mandril extendiéndose más allá del catéter; b) calentar un molde que tiene una superficie de molde interna ahusada; c) insertar el catéter y mandril en el molde para acoplar el material del catéter con la superficie interna del molde; d) dejar que el material se ablande y se conforme a la superficie interna del molde formando una rebaba que se extiende más allá de la punta del catéter deseada; e) remover el catéter; f) insertar el catéter en una guía que tiene una superficie de corte que define una abertura tal que la rebaba se extiende a través de la abertura más allá de la superficie de corte; g) mover una cortadora a lo largo de dicha superficie de corte para cortar la rebanada que se extiende por arriba de dicha superficie del resto del catéter para formar un catéter cortado; y h) remover el catéter cortado de la guía.
