                          技术领域
本发明涉及一种放电显示设备,尤其是,本发明涉及这样一种放电显示设备:该设备包括放电显示面板和根据在输入的视频信号中的帧的灰阶数据驱动该放电显示面板的装置。
                          背景技术
图1显示传统的表面放电型三极管等离子显示面板(PDP)1的结构。图2显示图1中显示的PDP 1的传统显示单元的实施例。参照图1和图2,在一般表面放电PDP 1的前和后玻璃基板10和13之间设置有:寻址电极行AR1、AG1、......、AGm、ABm、介电层11和15、Y电极行Y1、......、Yn、X电极行X1、......、Xn、荧光层16、分隔壁17和作为保护层的氧化镁(MgO)层12。
寻址电极行AR1到ABm以预定模式形成在后玻璃基板13的前表面上。后介电层15形成在具有寻址电极行AR1到ABm的后玻璃基板13的整个表面上。分隔壁17形成在后介电层15的前表面上以与寻址电极行AR1到ABm平行。这些分隔壁17限定各个显示单元的放电区并且起着阻止相邻的放电单元之间的交叉通信的作用。荧光层16涂在分隔壁17之间。

用于PDP 1,即放电显示面板的驱动单元包括视频处理器、控制器和驱动器。视频处理器将外部模拟视频信号转换为数字信号以产生内部视频信号,该内部视频信号包括,例如,8比特红色(R)视频数据、8比特绿色(G)视频数据、8比特蓝色(B)视频数据、时钟信号、水平同步信号和垂直同步信号。控制器响应于从视频处理器接收的内部视频信号,产生用于驱动驱动器的驱动控制信号。驱动器将驱动信号施加到放电显示面板1的电极行上。

                             发明内容
本发明提供这样一种放电显示设备:当在低压力环境,如外部压力低的环境中使用该放电显示设备时,该放电显示设备防止噪声的增加。
本发明公开了一种放电显示设备,包括:放电显示面板和用于根据输入的视频信号的每个帧的灰阶数据来驱动该放电显示面板的装置,其中,帧的平均亮度被与放电显示设备的外部压力成正比地调节。
本发明也公开一种当具有放电显示面板的显示设备的外部压力低的情况下,用于控制该显示设备的噪声的方法,该方法包括:根据输入的视频信号的每个帧的灰阶数据来驱动放电显示面板;和与放电显示设备的外部压力成正比地调节每个帧的平均亮度,其中,当图像显示在放电显示面板上时,显示设备的噪声不增加。

在下文中,详细描述了本发明的几个实施例。尤其是,参照图1和图2描述了等离子显示面板(PDP),即在放电显示设备中包括的放电显示面板。
参照图3,根据本发明的实施例的作为放电显示设备的等离子显示设备包括PDP 1、视频处理器66、控制器62、寻址驱动器63、X驱动64、Y驱动65和外部压力检测器67。

参照图3和图4,例如,当在帧中PDP 1的外部压力PEX在最小压力极限PEX_MIN和最大压力极限PEX_MAX之间时,在最小数量极限NTS_MIN和参考数量NTS_REF之间的范围中,该帧中维持放电脉冲NTS的数量被设置为与外部压力PEX成正比。该操作将参照图5、图6和图7在以下详细描述。最大压力极限PEX_MAX是不影响PDP 1的噪声的外部压力的最大值。

通常,当外部压力PEX减小时,帧的平均亮度减小。当外部压力PEX减小时,PDP 1的内部温度减小,因此,PDP 1的内部压力减小。从而,当外部压力PEX减小时,PDP 1的应力并不减小。结果,在具有低外部压力PEX的地区,PDP 1的噪声并不增大。
图5是当图3中显示的等离子显示设备的外部压力超过最大压力极限PEX_MAX(图4)时,帧FR1中的驱动状态的计时图。如上所述,最大压力极限PEX_MAX是不影响PDP 1的噪声的外部压力的最大值。
参照图5,为了实现时分灰阶显示,单元帧可被分为8个子场SF1到SF8。另外,独立的子场SF1到SF8可包括各复位周期R1到R8、各寻址周期A1到A8、和各维持放电周期S1到S8。
在复位周期R1到R8的每一个期间,使放电条件在所有显示单元内变为统一的并且放电条件变得适合执行下述随后的寻址操作。
在寻址周期A1到A8的每一个期间,显示数据信号施加到图1的寻址电极行AR1到ABm上,并且同时,扫描脉冲顺序地施加到Y电极行Y1到Yn上。当高电平显示数据信号被施加到寻址电极行AR1到ABm的一部分上时,在扫描脉冲被施加的同时,仅在相应的显示单元内从寻址放电引发壁电荷。
在维持放电周期S1到S8的每一个期间,维持放电脉冲能够被交替地施加到Y电极行Y1到Yn和X电极行X1到Xn,从而在寻址周期A1到A8的每一个期间引发壁电荷的显示单元中激发显示放电。从而,PDP的亮度与在单位帧中维持放电周期S1到S8的总长成正比。在单位帧中维持放电周期S1到S8的总长为255T(T指单位时间)。从而,包括不显示单位帧的情况,能够显示256个灰阶。

如至少在以上讨论的实施例中所述,在根据本发明的放电显示设备中,与外部压力成正比地调节每个帧的平均亮度。因此,当外部压力减小时,帧的平均亮度减小。因此,当外部压力减小时,在放电显示设备中包括的放电显示面板的内部温度降低,从而降低其内部压力。因此,即使当外部压力减小时,放电显示面板的应力也不减小。因此,即使在具有低外部压力的放电显示面板的地区,放电显示面板的噪声也不增加。
对于本领域技术人员很清楚,在不脱离本发明的精神或者范围的情况下可对本发明进行各种修改和变换。因此,其目的在于,如果本发明的修改和变换落于权利要求及其等同物的范围内,则本发明覆盖这些对本发明的修改和变换。

Claims (11)

1、一种放电显示设备,包括:
放电显示面板;和
装置,用于根据输入的视频信号的帧的灰阶数据来驱动放电显示面板,
其中,帧的平均亮度被与放电显示设备的外部压力成正比地调节。
2、如权利要求1所述的放电显示设备,其中,所述帧的平均信号电平被与放电显示设备的外部压力成正比地调节。
3、如权利要求1所述的放电显示设备,其中,所述帧的驱动时间被与放电显示设备的外部压力成正比地调节。
4、如权利要求2所述的放电显示设备,其中,所述帧被分成多个子场,子场包括复位周期、寻址周期和维持放电周期,
其中,在复位周期,所有显示单元的放电条件被设置为基本一致,
其中,在寻址周期,显示单元被选择,和
其中,在维持放电周期,在所选显示单元中,放电被维持。
5、如权利要求4所述的放电显示设备,其中,在维持放电周期,维持放电脉冲被交替地施加到所选显示单元的第一电极和第二电极上。
6、如权利要求5所述的放电显示设备,其中,在维持放电周期,维持放电脉冲的数量被与外部压力成正比地调节。
7、如权利要求1所述的放电显示设备,还包括:
外部压力检测器,用于测量放电显示装置的外部压力;和
控制器,用于从外部压力检测器接收测量的外部压力,并且与外部压力成正比地调节帧的平均信号电平。
8、如权利要求4所述的放电显示设备,其中,所述帧被分成8个子场。
9、一种用于当具有放电显示面板的显示设备的外部压力低时控制该显示设备的噪声的方法,包括:
根据输入的视频信号的每个帧的灰阶数据来驱动放电显示面板;和
将每个帧的平均亮度被与放电显示设备的外部压力成正比地调节,
其中,当图像被显示在放电显示面板上时,显示设备的噪声不增加。
10、如权利要求9所述的方法,还包括:
与放电显示设备的外部压力成正比地调节所述帧的平均信号电平。
11、如权利要求9所述的方法,还包括:
与放电显示设备的外部压力成正比地调节所述帧的驱动时间。
