背景

电视交互作用的一种基本水平例如是使用简单遥控器来实现的,该遥控器可对电视呈示的频道、音量、图像质量和其他方面进行局部的控制。
为使用户能够更主动地与电视节目内容进行交互作用,还提出了各种方案。
发明内容
在本发明中,通过在个人数字助理或类似装置上建立第二交互性并行频道,使用户具备一种显著增强的交互式能力。
一般,在一个方面,本发明采用一种方法,该方法包括:把交互式材料至少以部分无线方式传送到在正在播放视频内容的视频装置附近的移动装置,该交互式材料与该视频内容有关。

本发明使PDA和移动电话用户能够通过“捕获”电视节目或商业广播中的主题或各项信息,拓展自己的电视视听经验(viewingexperience),并收集有关感兴趣内容的进一步信息。本发明通过使电视视听体验的增强在用户手中实现而不是在电视机上实现,解决了银屏业的设计课题。本发明可避免中断视听体验,由于用户无需直接处理所捕获的内容,因而可对视听体验加以保护。
本发明可增强电视商业广播,这使用户除了能购买商品以外还能获得附加信息。广告商除了能获得有关自己广告效果的即时反馈以外,还能为用户提供有针对性的宣传推销。
本发明可使用户的移动装置也能充当用户电视和娱乐系统的通用遥控器。该移动装置还可显示电子节目指南(EPG:ElectronicProgramming Guide)的功能,可为节目提供特别有针对性的宣传推销,并可提供容易访问的节目表,所有这些都可在使内容得到增强的同一装置内实现。
考虑到用户许可,该移动装置可对由用户“捕获”的内容进行组织,以使内容能够根据用户预设兴趣分层显示。广告商可使用该信息提供针对用户的宣称推销。该系统还可进行筛选,以便根据用户偏好使显示内容合理化。例如,一位视听来自新闻广播的增强型体育内容的曲棍球球迷可能会不想看见当天网球比赛的进一步信息。该球迷可设定自己的简要表(profile)来表示此意。

如图24所示,通过使用户12能够与移动装置14(例如,高级的遥控器)进行交互作用,可增强用户对视频装置10上的视频内容的视听和使用体验。该移动装置14例如通过表示用户可能会感兴趣的其他内容,与视频内容同步。随着用户视听视频内容,例如,会由移动装置的显示器18上的“热”图标16或者采用某种其他方式定期向用户提示与视频内容同时发生或有关的交互性机会。
视听者可通过例如调用触发标记生成20的图标来表示对可用交互性感兴趣。该标记可存储在移动装置14的本地存储器22内和/或以某种方式提供给远程服务器24。该标记使服务器能够立即或在过后某个时间或者以某种其他方式把交互性提供给用户。
可采用至少以下四种方式中的任一种方式进行加标记:
1.标记可以是时间信息,用于捕获此时正在视听的视频内容的时间(使用移动装置上的系统时钟)和频道。该时间和频道标识可合称为“坐标”。当坐标23被发送到远程服务器24时,该服务器可检索与该坐标对应的交互性信息和功能26,并可返回该信息,或者可把该功能提供给移动装置。
2.标记可采用查询26的形式恰好就在用户通过调用图标表示感兴趣的时刻被发送到服务器。该服务器以对应信息或功能表示响应,然后,该对应信息或功能被存储在远程装置内,供在与用户进行交互作用时使用。
3.根据移动装置恰好在视听者表示感兴趣的时刻向服务器进行查询这一情况,可由服务器进行加标记。该服务器可生成包括嵌入的链路28的标记,并可把该标记返回到移动装置进行存储。之后,通过点击该标记的显示类型和嵌入链路的显示类型,用户可访问服务器,以便检索交互式信息或功能。
4.可选择的,服务器可不断广播与用户正在视听的不断变化的视频内容动态同步的一组不断变化的标记。移动装置随着这些标记被接收而显示这些标记。当用户看见感兴趣内容时,可调用与当前视频内容对应的当前显示标记。该标记具有嵌入的链路,于是,用户可访问与该链路对应的交互式信息或功能。
加标记方法使用户能够与不断变化的视频内容流同步或异步访问或检索附加信息和功能。例如,该附加信息或功能会涉及:(a)附加新闻,其对在视频内容中含有的新闻进行补充;(b)电子商务机会;(c)因特网上的万维网页面;(d)参与新闻组;(e)提问机会;(f)设定移动装置以执行某项动作,例如,记录未来视频内容;或者(g)远程服务器24的主机选定调用的任何其他信息、动作或事物处理。
移动装置14可由电池30供电,并可包括诸如触摸屏、小键盘或麦克风那样的用于接收话音的输入/输出能力32。可包括无线访问能力34,用于实现对视频装置的无线接入,以便控制视频装置(和常规遥控器所做的几乎一样),或者在视频装置上显示信息。第二无线访问能力36可实现对因特网或其他广域网的无线访问,以便传送标记、查询、坐标以及交互式信息和功能。(在某些情况下,如果视频装置能够通过网络40进行通信,则对视频装置的无线访问能力34将足以实现第二无线访问能力36的功能。)
移动装置运行软件42,该软件42被构成为执行以下功能:(1)提供可靠的联网能力,以便通过网络40访问服务器24;(2)显示文本和图像,并执行声频和视频功能;(3)如上所述给信息加标记;以及(4)如上所述存储信息。
可合称为“交互式内容”46的交互式信息和功能由交互式内容生成器使用内容生成软件44来生成,然后被装入服务器,供在运行时使用。该内容生成器根据视频馈入信号60的各种频道上的视频内容生成交互式内容,而在该馈入信号被输送到用户视频装置之前,该生成器就知道该视频馈入信号60的各种频道。各项交互式内容均可与视频内容的一个或多个分段有关,并可作为该内容生成的一部分与该分段相关。
该内容生成软件具有以下功能:(1)图形用户界面,其使内容生成器能够生成与将输送给用户的视频内容同步的信息和功能;(2)标记生成功能,其使该生成器能够生成包括音频、视频、文本和图像的标记;(3)一种使内容生成器能够生成图标以及交互式信息和功能的功能;(4)软件测试,以验证链路;以及(5)分级软件,用于把完成的交互式内容装入分级服务器24。该交互式内容被装入在服务器存储的交互式信息和功能26。同时,可把使视频内容分段与有关交互式分段相互关联的表或图29装入服务器。
该服务器运行服务器分级软件50,该分级软件50包括:(1)对使用内容生成软件生成的交互式内容46进行管理和收容(host);(2)具有联网能力,以便对来自移动装置的多个同时请求进行管理;(3)对把交互式内容定制给用户的偏好和个性化信息52进行管理;(4)生成使用报告,以实现反馈,用于广告和营销目的;以及(5)实现电子商务事物处理的生成和记录。在运行时,该服务器可使用通过用户与移动装置进行交互作用所生成的表示正在视听视频内容的标记,以便根据在图29中存储的关联来识别和提供有关交互式内容。该服务器还可把交互式内容建立在更通常的偏好和个性化信息52的基础上。
更详细参照移动装置,无线访问能力34、36可使用包括PCS(个人通信系统)、蜂窝、蓝牙技术、802.11、WiFi、Infrared(红外)或者替代技术在内的一系列广泛协议中的任何一项。该移动装置能够与驱动视频装置的视频馈入信号60连接,并能够例如采用通用遥控器对电视、VCR、机顶盒或其他视频装置进行控制的方式,对该视频馈入信号60进行控制。该移动装置也必须同时与网络44连接。
该移动装置例如可以是诸如Compaq iPaq或Palm Pilot那样的具有无线上网功能的PDA,或者是以下这种高功能遥控器,该遥控器包括:彩色LCD屏幕;用于对电视、VCR、机顶盒或者其他视频装置进行控制的红外链路;以及802.11b插件,用于与局域网连接,以实现对因特网的访问。
在该系统使用的一例中,收看电视的用户也将会看见在正用作移动装置的自己的遥控器屏幕上的视频或静止图像。该视频或静止图像(可被认为是与视频馈入信号分离的移动馈入信号62)连续变化(与内容生成器排列的一样),以便与在视频馈入信号上传送的视频内容对应。
如果用户使用遥控器改变视频馈入信号的频道,则移动馈入信号由服务器自动改为新频道。遥控器上的信息和功能在网络上实时更新,并且通过服务器与视频馈入信号同步。
在遥控器上显示的移动馈入信号将随时显示“热”图标,以提示用户交互性可用。交互性机会由移动馈入信号的内容作者预定。如果视频馈入信号上的视频内容在提示时激起用户的兴趣,则用户可轻触屏幕上给内容加标记的热图标(或者通过话音指令或键盘调用交互性机会)。从用户界面观点来看,当用户给内容加标记时,热图标从移动馈入信号窗口移到文件夹或一区域进行存储,用于过后访问。存储的图标便表示用户可过后点击的链路,以访问该标记作者所生成的交互式信息或功能。用户可访问、保存、存储和发送该信息或功能。该标记作者可判定用户是否可编辑该信息或功能。用户可选择访问移动装置上的加标记信息,也可把该加标记信息发送到诸如计算机、电视或其他装置那样具有屏幕和输入/输出能力的另一装置。交互式内容是可携带的,并可被发送给其他人和其他装置。
为了在视频馈入信号和移动馈入信号之间实现内容同步,该移动装置能够对视频馈入信号频道的接通情况进行识别,并把该频道报告给服务器。如果该移动装置是一种具有遥控器功能的装置,则当用户改变频道时,频道标识自动为遥控器所知,并可被报告给服务器。
或者,用户可在其改变频道时,把频道编号专门输入到移动装置内,或者在用户改变频道时,电视、机顶盒或者VCR可把当前频道信息发送到移动装置。通过确定频道信息,移动装置可向服务器提供使移动馈入信号与视频馈入信号同步所需的信息。
内容生成软件可类似于简单类型的万维网站点开发软件。
移动馈入信号对视频馈入信号与移动装置检索的信息同步进行控制。有时,移动馈入信号可提供辅助信息,用于对视频馈入信号进行扩充或补充。内容生成软件还提供工具,用于嵌入在移动馈入信号热图标内以表示交互性。该内容生成软件还具有一模块,用于生成链路,并用于生成标记和在服务器上进行分级并将在移动装置或其他终端用户装置上视听的信息。
服务器分级移动馈入信号和嵌入链路。内容生成器使用可用软件来生成移动馈入信号以及在用户给内容加标记时由用户访问的嵌入信息。移动馈入信号可以是文本、图像或者甚至是全视频。
视频馈入信号源和移动馈入信号源可设置在一个位置或者两个不同位置。
图1~图23示出了可提供给移动装置用户的用户界面的例子。在电视播放中,PDA可显示直接或间接与电视节目上正在播放的内容有关的图像或信息。
对于来自移动馈入信号的信息,用户可一边在PDA上收看这些信息,一面对这些信息加书签或者加标志(即:加标记)。过后,用户可在方便时,从服务器检索加书签或者加标志的信息项。
例如,如果用户在电视上看见例如棒球比赛那样的一则短节目,则用户可通过PDA界面表示自己希望给该节目加书签。过后,用户可从服务器检索有关该节目的附加信息。
一般,本发明可使用户能够在收看电视节目的同时,使用第二并行同步的信息源并交互作用,以便识别显示在PDA上的感兴趣的信息项,并过后针对该感兴趣信息项进行检索或者采取某个其他动作。
图1示出了将用于电视遥控的左侧的频道和音量控制装置。当前频道是MTV News,频道082。
图2示出了与“The Source Hip-Hop Music Awards”有关的标题,而其与正在电视上播放的有关分段相关。如果用户对给该信息项加书签感兴趣,则用户可按下显示向下箭头的位置,用户请求被发送到服务器进行存储。
在图3上,示出了不同标题,并且用户再次有机会通过按下向下箭头给该信息项加书签。
在下一屏幕上,即:在图4上,在该屏幕的下半部示出了与图3上出现的标题相关的图标,该图标表示用户已对该信息项加书签。
在图7上,用户已按下左上角的九个按钮图标,该图标表示希望在数字小键盘上输入信息,并且该图标的按钮已变黑。
在图8、图9和图10中,键盘在屏幕上从左到右滚动。在图11、图12和图13中,用户已按下043,以使频道改为CNN HeadlineSports(CNN体育头条新闻)。该信息被发送到因特网服务器,然后,该因特网服务器改变正在发送到用户电视的节目材料。然后,该节目的标题显示在屏幕顶部。
在图15中,用户看见NASCAR Brickyard 400节目的标题,并有机会按下大的向下箭头,以便给该标题加书签,或者按下标有ticker(订单)标记的小的向下箭头。
在图16中,NASCAR图标已加入到该加书签的信息项中。
在图17中,该标题已根据在电视上同时播放的段信息项而改为Senior Burnet Classic。与以前一样,用户有机会把该标题增加给自己在屏幕下半部的加书签的一组信息项。
在图18中,示出了Major League Baseball的得分。在图19中,用户使Brewers-Dodgers比赛得分高亮,并把该得分附加给加书签的信息项。
在图21中,向用户示出了有关Brickyard 400比赛的信息,包括三位主要竞赛者。用户有机会阅览比赛或得分,或者购买资料。在图22上,用户按下了信息项RACE(比赛),并且向用户示出了四个比赛图像的微缩图。
通过按下左下部图像,向用户示出了图23上的放大图像以及文本说明。
“订单”箭头使用户能够滚动不同短节目的整个序列,例如就像电视可广播一系列短的棒球比赛节目那样。由于因特网服务器在服务器上具有有关用户的个性化信息,因而可对订单进行变更,以适应用户的兴趣爱好,这样,当用户按下“订单”箭头时,可看见令其感兴趣的短节目序列。
任何由加书签而生成的图标都可由用户随时调用,用户只需按下该图标即可调用。然后,因特网服务器将提供与该图标有关的图像、视频或信息。
其他实施在以下权利要求的范围内。
Claims (34)
1.一种方法,该方法包括:
把交互式材料至少以部分无线方式传送到在正在播放视频内容的视频装置附近的移动装置,该交互式材料与该视频内容有关。
2.根据权利要求1所述的方法,该方法还包括将交互式材料采用与视频内容时间同步的方式呈示给用户。
3.根据权利要求2所述的方法,其中所述交互式材料包括用于接收从用户输入的要素。
4.根据权利要求1所述的方法,该方法还包括生成表示用户对一项交互式材料感兴趣的标记。
5.根据权利要求4所述的方法,其中所述标记是通过捕获视频内容的时间和频道来生成的。
6.根据权利要求4所述的方法,其中所述标记是通过在用户表示对一项交互式材料感兴趣时的时刻,把来自移动装置的查询发送到服务器来生成的。
7.根据权利要求4所述的方法,其中所述标记是由服务器响应来自移动装置的查询而生成的。
8.根据权利要求4所述的方法,其中服务器广播与视频内容动态同步的标记。
9.根据权利要求3所述的方法,其中所述要素包括显示的图标。
10.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中所述交互式材料包括信息,而所述信息包括至少以下一项:文本,图像,视频,音频。
11.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中在移动装置以无线方式接收该交互式材料。
12.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中所述视频装置包括电视或视频播放器。
13.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中所述交互式材料对视频内容进行补充。
14.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中所述移动装置包括至少以下一项:遥控器,个人数字助理,或者移动电话。
15.根据权利要求1所述的方法,该方法还包括:
根据与视频内容的视听者相关的爱好信息来传送至少某些交互式材料。
16.一种方法,该方法包括:
在正在播放视频内容的视频装置附近的移动装置至少以部分无线方式接收交互式材料,该交互式材料与该视频内容有关。
17.一种方法,该方法包括:
生成适合于传送到在正在播放视频内容的视频装置附近的移动装置或者适合于在该移动装置接收的交互式材料,该生成的交互式材料与该视频内容有关。
18.一种设备,该设备包括:
移动装置,其包括软件,该软件被构成为使该移动装置在正在播放视频内容的视频装置附近呈示交互式材料,该交互式材料与该视频内容有关。
19.根据权利要求18所述的设备,其中所述移动装置包括显示屏。
20.根据权利要求18所述的设备,其中所述移动装置包括用户输入/输出装置。
21.根据权利要求18所述的设备,其中所述移动装置包括无线通信装置。
22.根据权利要求18所述的设备,其中所述移动装置包括:个人数字助理,电话,或者遥控器。
23.一种设备,该设备包括:
服务器,其包括软件,该软件被构成为把交互式材料至少以部分无线方式传送到在正在播放视频内容的视频装置附近的移动装置,该交互式材料与该视频内容有关。
24.一种存储介质,其承载软件,该软件适合于构成一种装置,用于在正在播放视频内容的视频装置附近的移动装置至少以部分无线方式接收交互式材料,该交互式材料与该视频内容有关。
25.一种存储介质,其承载软件,该软件适合于构成一种装置,用于把交互式材料传送到在正在播放视频内容的视频装置附近的移动装置,该交互式材料与该视频内容有关。
26.一种方法,该方法包括:
在服务器接收视频内容标识;
识别与视频内容有关的交互式材料;以及
使用户能够与同视频内容的视听有关的交互式材料进行交互作用。
27.根据权利要求26所述的方法,其中所述用户能够表示自己感兴趣的交互式材料。
28.根据权利要求27所述的方法,该方法还包括根据用户对自己感兴趣材料的表示来生成标记。
29.根据权利要求28所述的方法,其中根据所述标记能把感兴趣材料过后提供给用户。
30.根据权利要求26所述的方法,其中将交互式材料与有关的视频内容同步呈示给用户。
31.一种方法,该方法包括:
使视频内容的视听者能够在与视频内容相关的交互式内容中登记感兴趣的内容;以及
在比视听视频内容时的时刻晚的时刻提供交互式内容。
32.根据权利要求31所述的方法,其中视听者通过与移动装置进行交互作用来登记自己的兴趣。
33.根据权利要求31所述的方法,其中响应来自视听者的请求,过后提供交互式内容。
34.根据权利要求33所述的方法,其中响应用户与移动装置进行的交互作用来提供交互式内容。
