数字遥控装置及其方法
本发明涉及多媒体电视接收机的遥控装置。本发明特别涉及带有显示器的、可与配置成允许各种新颖互动应用的多媒体电视接收机进行双向通信的遥控装置。

在又一个方面,本发明提供了一种提供互动参与电视节目的方法,所述方法包括下列步骤:在第一数据流内,广播需在与电视接收设备关联的第一显示装置上显示的节目的视频;在第二数据流内提供需在备有用户接口的第二显示设备上显示的与第一数据流的内容有关的信息;以及请求用户对包含在第二数据流内的信息作出响应。
本发明使用户可以在遥控装置上观看在主电视显示器上正在观看的图像之外的图像。这使用户可以追随另一个频道上的节目(例如,看广告段是否结束,或者所关心的新闻报道是否已经开始),而不干扰当前正在主电视显示器上观看的节目。或者,用户可以观看与在电视显示器上当前显示的之外的频道关联的图文电视页面,也可以接入互联网网站或发送和接收电子邮件,这都不用中断在主电视显示器上的收看。方便的是,本发明可以用在机顶盒(STB)的中央处理器或互动电视接收机的其他系统控制器上运行的全软件解码实现。这允许在遥控装置的显示器上显示分辨率降低了的(但是仍令人满意的)预览内容(preview),从而使其可以用较简单的STB技术来实现,对于厂商来说附加成本几乎为零。
所希望的是,遥控装置可以显示所请求的数据,而无论电视显示器是否在工作。在电视显示器在工作时,遥控装置可以方便地显示来自正在电视显示器上观看的之外的电视频道的图像。此外,遥控器也可以配置成请求、接收和显示最近在电视显示器上显示的图像,诸如重放当前正在电视显示器上观看的节目的前一场景之类。这个特色功能可以通过用户可操作的控制器与系统控制器内的存储器之间的互动或者用遥控装置内的本地存储器实现。
用户可操作的控制器可以配置成任何适当形式,包括(但并不严格局限于)键盘(按需要可采用鼠标、跟踪球或有助于从屏幕上的菜单显示中进行选择的类似功能部件)、触摸屏技术和/或语音识别技术。
遥控装置可以通过任何适当的装置与电视接收设备的系统控制器通信。所希望的是,通过诸如(但不严格局限于)红外线之类的无绳连接进行通信。
所希望的是,遥控装置配置成可与诸如DVD播放机、VCR或游戏机之类的其他视/听设备互动。在这样的实施例中,遥控器备有对用户可操作的控制器作出响应的装置,以便请求、接收和显示当前正在电视显示器上显示之外的、来自另一个视/听设备的数据或信息。这种功能允许用户例如在电视显示器上观看另一个节目的同时观看录在VCR上的节目。或者,用户可以在电视显示器上播放录在DVD上的电影的同时远程观看当前正在广播的电视节目。
众所周知,数字电视广播包括视频数据和文本信息,它们可以包括一些独立的数据流。这些数据流可以串列成单个载波信号发送。这样的配置可用来提供交互性的互动数据,诸如赛跑中的赛手的位置、新闻快报或体育比赛中的最后得分之类。可以设想,这样的技术可用来通过本发明的遥控装置的显示器提供交互媒体。例如,用户可操作控制器可以配置成对遥控显示器下载测验问题和上载对所提问题的答案。此外,用户可以体验互动而不会干扰其他观看者欣赏主电视显示器上显示的电视节目。
在适当的实况广播体育竞赛的情况下,选手的位置数据可以由广播公司串在实况广播内发送(例如,通过对来自固定摄像机的视频馈源的图像处理)。此外,选手的图形表示可以叠加到出现现场体育竞赛的路线/赛场/跑道的表示上下载,供在遥控装置的屏幕上显示,同时在主电视显示器上广播实况。显示竞赛统计数字的不断更新的字段(field)可以增补图形表示。通过用用户可操作的显示器与遥控装置互动,用户可以选择在电视显示器上显示竞赛的控制选项。例如,用户可以通过指出在图形表示上的所希望的位置就可简单地选择摄像角度、音频馈源位置之类。用户选择于是可以通过电视接收设备的系统控制器上载给广播装置,从而摄像机图像/音频馈源可以按照用户的要求发送给遥控装置显示器和/或电视显示器。
此外,或者在一个备选方案中,实况视频和图形表示可以联合存储,图形表示(高速步进)可使用户迅速识别感兴趣的播放片断,予以标记,以根据所录视频产生一个突出显示的节目数据包。
在前面提到的互动应用的进一步开发中,设想一个广播公司可以通过“诚信点(loyalty point)”体制鼓励经常收看这个广播公司的频道。这些“点”以电子信贷形式提供。这样的体制在零售业中是众所周知的,通过诚信卡用电子学方法给消费者一些点作为在一个商店里花费一定金额的奖励。在本发明所提出的体制中,广播公司在视频广播中发送给电视接收机一些点(以电磁信号方式承载)。遥控装置备有请求和下载这些诚信点的用户可操作的控制器和存储这些点的存储器。在以后的广播中,广播公司可以通过与发送点相同的路由直接将互动信息发送给遥控装置。这样的互动信息可以为用户提供花费诚信点或获取附加诚信点的机会,例如通过将一些点押在广播互动信息提出的一个未来事件的结果上。
增长的点可用来购买由创办的广播公司提供的销售项目或服务。例如,可以用点代偿观看按次付费观看节目的费用。或者,可以用诚信点代替实际货币购买与广播公司广播的主打电视节目关联的特色商品。在另一个备选方案中,可以用增长的点支付利用与提供互动电视数据相同的业务供应商进行电话呼叫或互联网接入的费用。点可以由广播公司奖励,作为一定行为(例如观看广告或购买商品或业务)的回报。
特定的实施例提供了根据“诚信点”系统的游戏/博奕配置,具有若干独特的特色,广播公司可以免费地赠送一些点,以鼓励用户用这些点进行博奕。
游戏/博奕活动呈现为在遥控显示器上显现的一些与用户当前在主电视显示器上观看的电视节目有关的问题的形式。遥控装置适当地配置成使广播公司可以将它从休眠状态“唤醒”,向用户提出问题;而用户对游戏问题的响应(或不响应)可用来建立用户档案。以后广播公司可以利用用户档案来进行有选择的广告和推销。例如,如果知道一个用户对与体育节目有关的问题作出了响应,广播公司就可以将有关体育杂志、运动衣和广播公司将来广播的按次付费观看体育节目的广告发给这个用户。
有经验的技术人员无疑可以想到在本发明的专利保护范围内的其他可能情况。
另一方面,本发明的遥控装置可以与诸如摄像机/录像机之类的数字记录设备配合使用。摄像机/录像机所记录的场景可以利用遥控装置的显示器和适当配置的用户接口进行远程下载和编辑。完成编辑的版本因此可以上载返回摄像机,记录在数据载体上,供再现和个人使用。
在又一种互动应用中,广播公司可以具有例如通过将激活代码下载给遥控装置或系统控制器将遥控装置从休眠状态“唤醒”的设备。遥控装置唤醒后,广播公司可以有选择地将数据和信息发送给遥控装置显示。信息可以例如通过下载含有与用户当前在电视显示器上观看的内容有关的广告数据的虚拟广告散页的方式提供。如果正在观看的节目是商业节目,则这数据可以包括背景信息或同类产品的其他项目的情况。如果用户选择了忽略所下载的广告散页,在所规定的一段时间后这散页就自动从遥控装置内删除,然而如果在这段时间内用户通过用遥控装置互动确认收到这广告散页,有关广告散页的内容和用户响应属性的情况就传回广播公司,于是广播公司可以用这数据建立观看者的个人档案。这档案可用来有选择地将商品或服务的广告发给各个在历史上表明对这些商品或服务感兴趣的个人。这样的广告可以包括在用户可能感兴趣的其他频道(由同一个广播公司提供)上的电视广播宣传。广告散页可以重复发送,如果本地系统允许,可以在本地高速缓存,以避免下载这样的大量数据。
下面将对本发明的实施例及其各个方面进行说明。为了进行说明,使用了以下定义的术语:

所希望的是,本发明呈现为一种便携式通信触摸屏显示装置,使通常在电视屏幕上显示的信息可以“离屏(off-screen)”在遥控触摸屏装置上显示。可以在这装置上显示当前不在电视屏幕上显示的信息,例如另一个频道的预览图像或与正在观看的节目关联的Web页。这种远程显示性能使用户可以找到他所喜欢的信息,诸如浏览EPG清单或观看任何频道上的图文电视页面,而不会打扰观看主电视显示器的人员的观看。此外,在得到适当配置时,这种装置使用户能体验广泛的互动活动。
本发明的遥控装置显示的内容通过诸如STB之类的网关接入,这种装置没有它自己的直接外部网连接。可以设想,可以对单个电视接收机同时而独立地使用多个这样的装置。例如,家庭内每个成员可以有他们自己个人的装置。在一个备选方案中,单个装置可以配备有存储设备,从而多个独立的用户可以存储和选择各自的设置。
虽然本发明的说明是针对作为电视伴侣的装置,但可以理解,这种装置具有作为诸如PVR、DVD和MP3自动点播机之类的数字消费者设备的通用前端的应用前景。随着这些数字消费者设备提供越来越多的功能,它们的用户接口日益复杂,因此本发明的装置对提供这样的用户接口是非常适当的平台。
这种装置有两个主要的特色。首先,可以采掘网关设备内的信息,其次能在远程显示器上显示与在主电视显示器上显示的不同的传输有关的图像或数据。

图1例示了内容怎样到达用作数字电视机的伴侣装置的遥控装置的情况。
在图1中,电视接收设备1处在用户家庭环境H内。电视接收设备1包括体现在STB 2内的系统控制器和显示器3。遥控装置4与设备1无线通信,而且也处在家庭环境H内,如前面所述。服务供应商(例如电视广播公司)SP处在远离H的位置,将自己产生的内容5发送给处在环境H内的接收设备1。此外,服务供应商SP也可以接收例如互联网数据6和来自合伙网站的内容7。电视接收设备1可以请求内容6和7,6和7通过服务供应商SP发送给STB 2。如前面所述,遥控装置4本身地可以命令STB 2从服务供应商SP请求一定内容5、6、7,在遥控装置4的显示器8上显示。
如图所示,服务供应商SP与家庭(或用户所在位置)H之间的链路可以是卫星、电缆、地面广播或远程通信运营商链路,或者任何其他可提供数字电视数据的通道。链路包括若干多路复用(multiplex),每个多路复用可以承载若干视频、音频和/或数据流。熟悉该技术的人员知道各种如前面对DVB技术所说明的那样将各种数据流多路复用在一起的方法。具体说明的是几种数据流,最值得注意的是SI(诸如图文电视EPG或互联网之类)和PSI(视频/音频广播)。
也如已知的那样,一定的DVB规格允许任何类型的数字信息作为一个专用数据流发送。这个数据流可以发送给所有接收机、个别接收机或所选的一些接收机组,利用适当的软件本发明的装置可以配置成与在电视屏幕上显示的数据无关地接收这数据。图1所示的WAN连接是任选的,允许下游互联网数据发送给本发明的装置(图中没有示出上游连接,但可以是例如POTS或ADSL调制解调器、电缆调制解调器、甚至是卫星返回信道)。这种配置有利于同时接入互联网图像和电视视频广播(一种有时称为“远程联网(telewebbing)”的动作)。采用这种方法也能传送增强性业务(EPG、图文电视之类)。
以下说明本发明的装置获取和显示信息的方法。
在外部设备上显示信息涉及一系列阶段。首先必须发现信息,然后提取、再现、发送和显示信息。
发现:当一项信息(例如,EPG说明或预览图像的一个I帧)被请求时,第一步是确定这信息驻留在哪里。它可能是已经存在(例如存储在STB存储器内)的SI表的一部分,或者可存在于与当前正在审查的不同的传送流内。发现阶段确定所请求的信息项的位置。
提取:确定了信息项的位置后,提取适当信息。提取机制取决于相应的位置。如果该项不在STB存储器或当前为电视显示器所选的频道的数据流内,就命令调谐器改变到正确的频率(按照在发现阶段期间所确定的),以接收所请求的信息。PID和区段过滤器可以配置成建立一个可以用以寻找所请求的信息项的表。
再现:就传统的在屏幕上显示信息来说,再现阶段包括在图形平面上绘制叠加在电视图像上的、适当的图像。本发明的装置在电视屏幕之外的显示器(即远程显示器)上提供图像的再现。因此,再现阶段包括以网关设备与本发明的遥控装置能相互理解的方式描述信息项。在所说明的实施例,这用了XML和适当的DTD/方案。
传输:所请求的信息的XML描述无线发送给遥控装置。这可以用本发明的技术领域内巳知的许多现有无线协议来实现。例如蓝牙、IEEE802.11或HomeRF之类。
显示:成功地接收到所请求的信息项的XML描述后,将它在遥控装置的显示器上再现。
下面说明本发明的实施例对于一些用户应用的功能。首先简要说明本发明的实施例的一些适当的硬件和软件配置的例子。
两个适当的平台是Intel StrongARM SA111x标准板和Compaq iPAQH3630 PDA。iPAQ装置的特征是硬件与StrongARM标准板的非常类似(特别是,具有相同的CPU),并以更为紧凑的形状因子提供了StrongARM功能的一个子集。
在所说明的实施例中,STB是基于SGS-Thomson STi5512芯片的低档STB。这个芯片起重要作用的是为控制STB和运行所有原赋应用提供足够的处理能力的60MHz ST20 32比特处理器。只有有限的处理能力可以用来运行诸如结合到本发明中的I帧获取器或EPG采掘器之类的其他应用(严格的数量取决于需要同时执行的别的应用)。较高级的STB起重要作用的是较高性能的处理器,可以设想,这些高级STB所提供的提高了的处理能力可以使范围更宽的应用可以在本发明的装置内实现,而且使在远程屏幕上提供图像中的延迟可以减少。所希望的是,STB(或其他网关设备)备有与用来选择在电视显示器上显示的频道的调谐器分开的、可由本发明的遥控装置控制的第二调谐器。可以使用一些已知的STB,这些STB的特征是有一个第二调谐器用来将正在观看的之外的一个节目录到硬盘上,可以预期采用这种现有技术将会允许实现本发明设想的许多应用。在有第二调谐器时就可以从电视接收机所接收的任何传送流接入信息(数据或图像)。
本发明的装置可以用串联电缆接到STB(或其他网关设备)上,但是更优选的是用诸如蓝牙链路之类的无线链路连接。这可以通过将蓝牙“保安(dongle)”模块接到网关设备和遥控装置的串行端口上实现。可以设想,通过接上这种保安模块和用有关代码升级网关设备的闪存可以将现有所安装的STB及其他网关设备现场升级,以提供本发明的遥控装置的功能。这为已在该领域内的网关设备的供应商提供了一个显著的成本优势,他只要通过对现有这一代STB及其他网关设备进行简单的低成本扩展就可以为消费者提供许多新颖的服务。
以下,在图2示出了本发明的适当的软件构架的例子。这种系统需要在遥控装置与网关设备(STB)之间传送命令和数据的协议。遥控装置上所用的软件栈主要是基于免费的开放性源代码。该软件为本发明的本设备贯彻一些新颖的协议,以便交换信息、解释信息和用适当的GUI显示信息。
除了由STB对第一视频信息流解码以在电视机上显示之外,系统还允许对第二视频信息流解码。第二视频流的解码可以很方便地用适当配置的软件在诸如STB之类的网关设备的主处理器上执行。为了不与STB已经加载到处理器上的任备及所要求的任务冲突,或不与这些任务的循环预算资源(这可能是不可预知的)冲突,所希望的是,软件解码具有低处理负荷和可伸缩性,使得甚至在STB处理器的可用循环预算资源减少时仍能令人满意地工作。
在优选实施例中,采用了时间上(丢弃一些帧)和空间上(降低分辩率)的可伸缩性。在一个例子中,只对I帧解码,而且在水平上和垂直上将分辨率都降低为原来的八分之一。这可以用包括以下这些步骤的方法实现:
i)在解码器的信号分离器内设立对第二数据流的PES滤波器;
ii)用硬件信号分离器将数据写入PES缓存器;
iii)如果在缓存器内发现完整的I帧就开始解码(解码处理将在下面详细说明);
iv)将经解码的图像发送给遥控装置的显示器(或GUI),显示前,可以将I帧的图像格式映射到调色板上;以及
v)再启用PES滤波器,重复这个循环。
在一个实施例中,对I帧进行解码,但只计算8×8数据块的DC分量。这将分辨率降低为八分之一。采用这样降低的分辨率,仍可以觉察图像内容的改变(例如,商业广告节目是否已经结束和足球比赛是否继续进行)。只用DC系数可以显著节约处理负荷量,因为这不需要执行IDCT操作。在进入的MPEG2比特流内所有的DCT系数的8×8数据块作为VLC字编码(DC系数也是这样)。DC系数位于每个宏块的开始处。然而,宏块不是按字节对准的。这意味着为了到达下一宏块的DC系数就要跳过前一宏块的所有AC系数。这也就是说,必须执行完整的可变长度解码操作,正如对待完全分辨率解码那样。这是开销很大的比特式处理,还要耗费绝大部分的处理负荷。
由于跳过AC系数只需要这些AC系数的长度(不是确切值),因此可以利用MPEG VLC表的特征更为高效地处理这些VLC系数。例如,一旦知道一个特定系数的长度就可以停止对这个系数的比特进行分析,而跳过剩下的那些比特。该解码的理想结果是以得到逐行图像结束。这意味着,对于场编码的宏块或DGT块,必须执行场到帧的变换。这可以简单地通过把各场的DC分量平均来实现。
可以在不干扰主电视显示器上的图像的情况下改变需在遥控装置的显示器上观看的频道。在用户请求时,遥控装置向STB发送频道改变命令。XML解释器应用处理这个命令,将频道号码传送给STB中间件的频道改变功能。许多PDA有内装的IR端口,这个端口还可以用来控制电视接收机的诸如音量、亮度等功能,如果PDA知道这些功能的、正确的遥控装置代码的话。
本发明的装置的在这里没有详细说明的其他可能应用包括:显示来自在电视显示器上所看频道之外的频道的信息的远程图文电视;探测广告和内容的位置;互动和“促销”广告;远程监视在主电视显示器上观看的节目;运动节目的浸入式应用;用户诚信体制;通用前端/遥控装置;新的用户接口;EPG搜索引擎;遥控显示器上的即时消息报导;游戏机的备用视图。
遥控装置4可以通过诸如小键盘、触摸屏之类的标准用户接口(包括手写识别和语音控制)从用户接收信息。
可以理解,以上只是对本发明的一些实施例和应用的示范性说明,并不意味着对所附权利要求书中所给出的本发明的专利保护范围有所限制。

Claims (17)

1.一种配合电视接收设备使用的遥控装置,所述电视接收设备包括系统控制器、接收广播视频数据和辅助文本数据的接收机和显示该数据的电视显示器,所述遥控装置可以与电视接收装置的系统控制器通信,而且具有它自己的显示器和用户可操作的控制器,其中,所述遥控装置或系统控制器包括用于存储已经由所述电视显示器显示的视频和/或辅助文本数据的存储器,并且其中,所述遥控装置包括对用户可操作的控制器作出响应以用于请求、接收和显示来自所述存储器的存储的视频和/或辅助文本数据、当前没有在所述电视显示器上显示的存储的视频和/或辅助文本数据、和用户要在遥控装置的显示器上观看的由所述遥控装置显示的存储的视频和/或辅助文本数据的装置。
2.如权利要求1中所要求的遥控装置,其中所述电视接收设备的系统控制器包括两个或更多调谐器,其中一个调谐器可由用户可操作的控制器控制,用来查找在遥控装置的显示器上显示的数据和信息。
