概要

ユーザから許可が与えられると、移動装置は、ユーザによって「取り込まれた」コンテンツを、ユーザの事前に設定された関心に従って階層的に表示されるように構成することができる。広告主は、この情報を用いて、ユーザを対象とする販売促進商品を示すことができる。システムにより、ユーザの好みに基づいて表示を合理化するためのフィルタリングも可能になる。たとえば、ニュース放送における改善されたスポーツコンテンツを視聴するホッケー愛好者は、その日のテニスの試合に関する他の情報を視聴するのを望まない場合がある。このユーザはこのことを示すように自分のプロファイルを設定することができる。

図24に示されているように、ユーザがビデオ装置10上でビデオコンテンツを視聴し使用する経験は、ユーザ12が、ビデオコンテンツと同期した移動装置14（高度なリモートコントローラなど）との対話を、たとえばユーザが関心を持った他のコンテンツを示すことにより可能にすることによって改善することができる。ユーザがビデオコンテンツを視聴する際、たとえば移動装置のディスプレイ18上の「ホットな」アイコン16や他の何らかの方法により、ビデオコンテンツに一致または関連する対話機会を定期的にユーザに与えることができる。
視聴者は、たとえば、タグ20の作成をトリガする（trigger）アイコンを呼び出すことによって、利用可能な対話に対する関心を示すことができる。タグは、移動装置14のローカルメモリ22に記憶し、かつ／または何らかの方法でリモートサーバ24に設けることができる。タグによって、サーバは、ユーザがただちに、または後で、または他の何らかの方法で対話を行えるようにすることができる。
タグ付けは、少なくとも以下の4つの方法のうちのどれかで行うことができる。
1.タグは、（移動装置上のシステムクロックを用いて）時間を取り込むタイムスタンプと、その時間に視聴されるビデオコンテンツのチャンネルであってよい。時間とチャンネルIDをまとめて「座標」と呼んでよい。座標23がリモートサーバ24に送信されると、サーバは座標に対応する対話情報関数26を検索することができ、移動装置にこの情報を返すか、または移動装置に対してこの関数を実行することができる。
2.タグは、ユーザがアイコンを呼び出すことによって関心を示したときにサーバに送信される問合せ26の形であってよい。サーバは、対応する情報または関数を用いて応答し、これらの情報または関数は次いで、ユーザとの対話に使用できるようにリモート装置に記憶される。
3.タグ付けは、視聴者が関心を示したときに移動装置がサーバに問合せを行うことに応答してサーバによって行うことができる。サーバは、埋め込みリンク28を含むタグを作成し、移動装置に返すことができ、タグは移動装置に記憶される。後で、ユーザは、このタグの表示バージョンまたは埋め込みリンクの表示バージョンをクリックすることによって、サーバにアクセスし対話情報または関数を検索することができる。
4.あるいは、サーバは、ユーザが視聴する変化するビデオコンテンツに動的に同期した変化する1組のタグを絶えずブロードキャストすることができる。ユーザが、関心対象のものを見るときには、現在のビデオコンテンツに対応する現在表示されているタグを呼び出す。タグは、埋め込みリンクを保持しており、ユーザは、リンクに対応する対話情報または関数にアクセスすることができる。
タグ付け方法により、ユーザは、変化するビデオコンテンツストリームに同期的または非同期的に追加の情報および関数にアクセスしそれを検索することができる。たとえば、追加の情報または関数は、（a）ビデオコンテンツに含まれるニュースを補足する追加のニュース、（b）eコマースの機会、（c）インターネット上のウェブページ、（d）ニュースグループへの参加、（e）質問の機会、（e）将来のビデオコンテンツの記録のようなある動作を実行するよう移動装置を設定すること、または（f）リモートサーバ24のホストが選択して利用可能にすることのできる他の情報、処置、または取引きを含んでよい。
移動装置14は、電池30から電力を供給され、タッチスクリーン、キーパッド、音声を受信するマイクロフォンなどの入出力機能32を含んでよい。（従来のリモートコントローラと同様に）ビデオ装置を制御すると共に、ビデオ装置上に情報を表示するためにビデオ装置に無線アクセスできるようにする無線アクセス機能34を含んでよい。第2の無線アクセス機能36は、タグ、問合せ、座標、ならびに対話情報および関数を伝達するためにインターネットまたは他のワイドエリアネットワークに無線アクセスできるようにする。（場合によっては、ビデオ装置がネットワーク40を通じて通信を行うことができる場合、無線機能36を実現するにはビデオ装置への無線アクセス34で十分である。）
移動装置は、以下の機能を実行するように構成されたソフトウェア42を実行する：（1）ネットワーク40を通じてサーバ24にアクセスする安全なネットワーキング機能を実現すること；（2）テキストおよび画像を表示し、音声およびビデオ映像を実行すること；（3）前述のように情報にタグ付けすること；および（4）前述のように情報を記憶すること。
対話情報および関数は、まとめて「対話コンテンツ」46と呼ぶことができ、対話コンテンツ作成者によってコンテンツ作成ソフトウェア44を用いて作成され、次いで実行時に使用できるようにサーバにロードされる。コンテンツ作成者は、ビデオフィード60がユーザのビデオ装置に配信される前に作成者が知ることができるビデオフィード60の様々なチャンネル上の、ビデオコンテンツに基づいて、対話コンテンツを作成する。対話コンテンツの各項目は、ビデオコンテンツの1つまたは複数のセグメントに関係付けることができ、コンテンツ作成の一部としてこのセグメントに関連付けることができる。

サーバは、（1）コンテンツ作成ソフトウェアを用いて作成された対話コンテンツ46を管理して処理し、（2）移動装置からの複数の同時要求を管理するネットワーキング機能を実現し、（3）ユーザに対して対話コンテンツをカスタマイズする好み情報および個人化情報52を管理し、（4）宣伝および販売のためのフィードバックを可能にするように使用状況に関する報告書を作成し、かつ（5）eコマース取引の作成および記録を可能にする、サーバステージングソフトウェア50を実行する。実行時に、サーバは、視聴されるビデオコンテンツを示す、ユーザと移動装置の対話によって作成されたタグを用いて、マップ29に記憶されている関連性に基づいて、関連する対話コンテンツを識別し与えることができる。サーバは、対話コンテンツを、より一般的な好み情報および個人化情報52に基づくコンテンツとすることができる。
さらに詳しく移動装置に言及すると、無線機能34、36は、PCS、携帯電話、Bluetooth（登録商標）、802.11、WiFi、赤外線、または他の技術を含む様々なプロトコルのうちのどれかを使用することができる。移動装置は、ビデオ装置を駆動するビデオフィード60に接続し、たとえば、汎用リモートコントローラがテレビ、VCR、セットトップボックス、または他のビデオ装置を制御するように、このビデオフィード60を制御することができる。移動装置は同時に、ネットワーク44に接続しなければならない。
移動装置は、たとえば、Compaq iPaqやPalm Pilotなどの無線使用可能PDAや、カラーLCD画面と、テレビ、VCR、セットトップボックス、または他のビデオ装置を制御する赤外線リンクと、インターネットにアクセスできるようにローカルエリアネットワークに接続される802.11bカードとを含む種類の高度機能リモートコントローラであってよい。
システムのある使用例において、テレビを視聴するユーザは、移動装置として働くユーザのリモートコントローラの画面でもビデオまたは静止画像を見る。このビデオまたは静止画像（ビデオフィードとは別の移動フィード62とみなすことができる。）は、ビデオフィード上に保持されるビデオコンテンツに対応するように（コンテンツ作成者による構成に応じて）連続的に変化する。
ユーザがリモートコントローラを用いてビデオフィードのチャンネルを変更した場合、移動フィードは、サーバによって自動的に新しいチャンネルに変更される。リモートコントローラ上の情報および関数は、ネットワーク上でリアルタイムに更新され、サーバによってビデオフィードと同期させられる。
リモートコントローラ上に表示される移動フィードは、適時「ホットな」アイコンを表示して、対話が利用可能であることをユーザに示す。対話機会は、移動フィードのコンテンツ作成者によって事前に決定される。対話が利用可能であることがユーザに示されたときにユーザがビデオフィード上のビデオコンテンツに関心をそそられた場合、ユーザは画面上のホットアイコンを軽くたたき（あるいは音声コマンドまたはキーボードによって対話機会を呼び出し）、コンテンツにタグ付けすることができる。ユーザインタフェースから見ると、ユーザがコンテンツにタグ付けすると、ホットアイコン移動フィードアイコンは移動フィードウィンドウから、後でアクセスできるように記憶されるフォルダまたは領域に移動する。記憶されたアイコンは、ユーザが後で、タグ付け者が作成した対話情報または関数にアクセスするのにクリックすることのできるリンクを表す。ユーザは、情報または関数にアクセスし、それを保存し、記憶し、送信することができる。タグ付け者は、ユーザが情報または関数を編集できるかどうかを判定することができる。ユーザは、移動装置上のタグ付けされた情報にアクセスするか、あるいは画面および入出力機能を有するコンピュータ、テレビ、またはその他の装置のような他の装置に送信することができる。対話コンテンツは、携帯可能であり、他の人および他の装置に送信することができる。
ビデオフィードと移動フィードとの間でコンテンツを同期できるようにするため、移動装置は、ビデオフィードのチャンネルがオンであることを確認し、このチャンネルをサーバに報告することができる。移動装置がリモートコントローラ機能を有する移動装置である場合、ユーザがチャンネルを変更すると、コントローラが自動的にこのチャンネルIDを知り、かつこのチャンネルIDをサーバに報告することができる。
あるいは、ユーザが、チャンネルを変更するときに移動装置にチャンネルの番号を具体的に入力するか、またはテレビ、セットトップボックス、またはVCRが、ユーザによるチャンネルの変更時に移動装置に現在のチャンネル情報を送信することができる。移動装置は、チャンネル情報を判定することによって、移動フィードをビデオフィードに同期させるのに必要な情報をサーバに与えることができる。
コンテンツ作成ソフトウェアは、ウェブサイト開発ソフトウェアの簡単なバージョンと同様のソフトウェアであってよい。
移動フィードは、移動装置が検索する情報とビデオフィードの同期を制御する。場合によっては、移動フィードはビデオフィードを増補または補足する補助情報を与えることができる。コンテンツ作成ソフトウェアは、対話を示すホットアイコンを移動フィードに埋め込むツールも実現する。コンテンツ作成ソフトウェアは、リンクを作成すると共に、サーバ上でステージングされ移動装置または他のエンドユーザ装置上で視聴されるタグおよび情報を構築するモジュールも有する。
サーバは、移動フィードおよび埋め込みリンクをステージングする。コンテンツ作成者は、利用可能なソフトウェアを用いて、移動フィードと、ユーザがコンテンツにタグ付けするときにアクセスする埋め込み情報との両方を作成する。移動フィードは、テキストでも写真でもよく、場合によってはフル映像であってもよい。
ビデオフィードの送信元および移動フィードの送信元は1つの場所に位置することも、2つの異なる場所に位置することもできる。
移動装置のユーザに与えることのできるユーザインタフェースの一例を図1から図23に示す。テレビの視聴時には、PDAは、テレビプログラムで示されているものに直接または間接的に関係する画像または情報を表示することができる。
ユーザは、移動フィードから得られた情報をPDA上で見るときにその情報にブックマークまたはフラグ（またはタグ）付けすることができる。ブックマークまたはフラグ付けされた項目は、後でユーザに都合の良いときにサーバから検索することができる。
たとえば、ユーザは、野球などのプログラムのショートクリップをテレビで見る場合に、このプログラムにブックマーク付けしたいことをPDAインタフェースを通して示すことができる。ユーザは後でプログラムに関する追加の情報をサーバから検索することができる。
一般に、本発明により、ユーザは、テレビを視聴しつつ、情報と対話の第2の並列同期ソースを使用して、PDA上に表示された関心対象の項目を識別し、かつこの関心対象の項目を後で検索するか、またはこの項目に対して何らかの処置をとることができる。
図1は、テレビの遠隔制御に使用されるチャンネルつまみおよび音量つまみを左側に示している。現在のチャンネルは、082チャンネルのMTVニュースである。
図2は、テレビに表示されている関連するセグメントに関連付けられた「ソース・ヒップホップ音楽賞（The Source Hip-Hop Music Awards） 」に関するバナーを示している。ユーザが、この項目にブックマーク付けすることに関心を持った場合、下向き矢印が示されている場所を押し、ユーザの要求がサーバに送信され記憶される。
図3には異なるバナーが示されており、ユーザはこの場合も、下向き矢印を押すことによってこの項目にブックマーク付けする機会を有する。
次の画面である図4には、図3で表示されたバナーに関連するアイコンが画面の下半分に示されており、ユーザがこの項目にブックマーク付けしたことを示している。
図7では、ユーザは、左上隅の9ボタンアイコンを押し、数値キーパッドで情報を入力したいことを示しており、アイコンのボタンが黒くなっている。
図8、図9、および図10で、キーボードが画面上で左から右にスクロールされている。図11、図12、および図13で、ユーザは043を押し、チャンネルをCNNヘッドラインスポーツ（CNN Headline Sports）に変更している。この情報はインターネットサーバに送信され、インターネットサーバは次いで、ユーザにテレビに送信されるプログラムマテリアルを変更する。次いで、このプログラムのバナーが画面の上部に表示される。
図15で、ユーザは、NASCARブリックヤード（NASCAR Brickyard） 400プログラムのバナーを見て、大きな下向き矢印を押してこのプログラムにブックマーク付けするか、またはチッカー（ticker）として示されている小さな下向き矢印を押す。
図16では、ブックマーク付けされた項目にNASCARアイコンが付加されている。
図17では、バナーが、テレビに同時に示されている短い項目に従ってシニア・バーネット・クラシック（Senior Burnet Classic）に変更されている。前述のように、ユーザは、これを、画面の下半分にあるユーザの1組のブックマーク項目に追加する機会を有する。
図18には、メジャーリーグ野球のスコアが示されている。図19では、ユーザがビルアーズ（Brewers）とドジャーズ（Dodgers）の試合のスコアを強調表示し、ブックマーク項目に追加している。
図21では、3人の優勝候補を含む、ブリックヤード400レースに関する情報がユーザに示されている。レースまたはスコアを視聴するか、あるいは商品を購入する機会がユーザに与えられる。図22では、ユーザは項目RACEを押しており、レースの写真の4つのサムネールが示されている。
左下の写真を押すことによって、図23の拡大画像がテキストキャプションと共にユーザに示される。
チッカー矢印によって、ユーザは、たとえば、テレビで野球の一連のショートクリップをブロードキャストするのとまったく同じように様々なショートクリップのシーケンス全体をスクロールすることができる。インターネットサーバはユーザに関する個人化情報をサーバ上に有しているので、ユーザがチッカー矢印を押したときにユーザが関心を持ったショートクリップのシーケンスが表示されるように、ユーザの好みに合うようにチッカーを変更することができる。
ブックマーク付けの結果として作成された任意のアイコンを、ユーザが単にそのアイコンを押すことによっていつでも呼び出すことができる。次いで、インターネットサーバは、そのアイコンに関係する画像、ビデオ映像、または情報を与える。

Claims (7)

  1. 対話型マテリアルを表示するための移動装置であって、
    ビデオ装置に配信されるビデオフィードのためのチャンネル情報を決定する手段であって、該ビデオフィードからのビデオコンテンツが該ビデオ装置に表示されている、手段、
    ワイドエリアネットワーク上で直接リモートサーバに該移動装置からの該チャンネル情報を提供するための手段であって、該移動装置がリモートコントローラまたは携帯電話のうちの1つである、手段、
    該ビデオコンテンツが表示されている時に、該リモートサーバからのビデオまたは静止画像のうちの少なくとも1つを含むデータの移動フィードを該リモートサーバから直接受信するための手段であって、該移動フィードが、ワイドエリアネットワーク上で無線によって受信されかつ該ビデオコンテンツと関連した対話型マテリアルを含む情報を含み、該ビデオフィードとは異なる、手段、
    該ビデオ装置による該ビデオコンテンツの表示と同期して、該移動装置のディスプレイに該対話型マテリアルを表示するための手段であって、該表示される対話型マテリアルが該移動装置のユーザからの入力を受信するための要素を含む、手段、
    該対話型マテリアル中の該要素の選択を通じて、該移動装置のユーザによる該対話型マテリアルにおける関心についての指示を、作成かつ送信するための手段であって、関心についての該指示が該リモートサーバに送信される、手段、および
    関心についての該指示に基づき、該リモートサーバから該ビデオコンテンツに関連した追加の情報を該移動装置によって受信するための手段
    を含む、該移動装置。
  2. 前記対話型マテリアルが、前記移動フィード中に前記リモートサーバによって連続的にブロードキャストされ、ビデオ装置に表示されている変化するビデオコンテンツと時間的に動的に同期して移動装置によって表示される、請求項1記載の移動装置。
  3. 入力を受信するための前記要素が前記移動装置上に表示された選択可能なアイコンであり、かつ、
    該移動装置のディスプレイに表示されている対話型マテリアル中のアイコンのユーザ選択に応答して、対話型マテリアルの項目に対するユーザの関心を表すタグを、前記移動装置によって、作成するための手段であって、該タグが、該移動装置上のシステムクロックを用いて時間を取り込むタイムスタンプ、および選択時にまたは該選択時に該移動装置によって前記リモートサーバに送られる問合せ時に視聴されているビデオコンテンツのチャンネルである、手段、
    前記リモートサーバに該タグを送信するための手段と、
    該タグの送信に応答して該サーバから前記追加の情報を受信するための手段と
    をさらに含む、請求項1記載の移動装置。
  4. 前記対話型マテリアルが、テキスト、画像、ビデオ映像、オーディオのうちの少なくとも1つを含む情報を含む、請求項1記載の移動装置。
  5. ビデオコンテンツに関連する対話型マテリアルを提供するサーバであって、
    ビデオ装置に配信されるビデオフィードのチャンネルIDを、ワイドエリアネットワーク上で、移動装置から受信するための手段であって、該ビデオフィードのコンテンツが該ビデオ装置に表示されている、リモートコントローラまたは携帯電話のうちの1つである移動装置から受信するための手段、
    無線によって送信され、かつ該移動装置のユーザからの入力を受信するための要素を含む対話型マテリアルを含み、ビデオまたは静止画像のうちの少なくとも1つを含むデータの移動フィードを、ワイドエリアネットワーク上で、該移動装置に無線によって配信するための手段であって、該移動フィードにおける該対話型マテリアルの表示が該ビデオ装置による該ビデオコンテンツの表示と同期され、該移動フィードが該ビデオフィードとは異なるとともに該ビデオ装置によって該ビデオコンテンツの表示が行われている時に配信される、手段、
    該ビデオフィードの該チャンネルIDに基づいて、ビデオコンテンツに関連する対話型マテリアルを識別するための手段、および
    該移動装置のユーザによって該対話型マテリアルにおける、要素の選択の指示、および該要素の選択の時間を受信することに応答して、該ビデオコンテンツに関連する追加の情報を該移動装置に提供するための手段
    を含む、サーバ。
  6. 前記ユーザによって前もって提供された、前記移動装置の該ユーザの関心を示す好み情報に基づいて、前記対話型マテリアルの少なくとも1つがサーバによって識別される、請求項5記載のサーバ。
  7. 前記サーバが、前記移動フィードに含まれるとともに前記ビデオコンテンツと動的に同期する前記追加の情報への埋め込まれたリンクの変化する組を生成する、請求項5記載のサーバであって、該埋め込まれたリンクが、前記移動装置の前記ユーザによって選択され得る、サーバ。
