                           发明背景
技术领域
本发明涉及到无线电话机,并且尤其涉及到降低功率模式,如当电话机处于受限RF传输环境中时,例如在飞机上,或者当电话机以降低功率模式使用时,例如作为闹钟使用。
背景技术
无线电话机(蜂窝网、PCS等等)往往处于禁止传输的情况中(如在飞机上)。处理这种情况的常规方法是由硬件或软件禁用收发机。发射机和接收机消耗大量的电话机所需的功率,所以本方法对于保存电池有额外的好处。
类似地,电话机可以作为闹钟使用。由于用户不希望在他睡着时接收呼叫,就关闭收发机并且闹钟功能仍然继续。该闹钟功能不同于提醒功能,在提醒功能中将电话机配置成在一天内提醒用户即将到来的约会,而且还将电话机配置成根据需要接收和发出呼叫。与在提醒模式下相比,在闹钟模式下关闭收发机能提供有效的功率减少。稍后,闹钟可以重新开启收发机。
                         发明概述
申请人已经注意到了当发送和接收消耗大量电话机所需的功率时,即使禁用收发机,也存在实质上的功率耗用。特别地,当收发机已被禁用时,即使在飞机和闹钟模式下,无线调制解调器仍然保持启用。因而本发明在收发机和调制解调器都禁用时仍然有相当的其它(低功率)设备在飞机和闹钟模式期间被启用。例如,用户可以继续使用电话簿、消息以及其它电话功能。而且当从日历程序发出通知时,闹钟功能持续运转。当电话机与个人数字助理(PDA)耦合时,这最后一个功能就尤其重要。如果电话机没有和PDA耦合,那么它就是被启用或禁用的调制解调器功能而不是单独的调制解调器本身。在本发明中,这样的耦合是较佳的但不是所需的。
申请人通过用低电流计数器(硬件)每2.5分钟唤醒处理器的其余部分。该2.5分钟的时间周期是可以调整的。通常处理器做的唯一一件事是更新时钟/日历并回到睡眠状态。然而,可以把它设置成在特定时刻开启电话机或者等待直到手动命令开启电话机。
前一种选择适合于闹钟模式。当用户在晚上睡着时,他不希望电话机接收呼叫并因此将电话机手动设置成闹钟模式,这样他可以继续睡觉。作为备择,用户可以选择自动登录,以便在每晚的固定时刻自动进入闹钟模式。在第二天早上的某个预定时刻,电话机(调制解调器和收发机)开启并允许呼入。该开启可以伴随着声音闹铃或者可以是无声的。当用户在响铃时刻命令退出时,或者当用户发出向外呼叫时,无论哪一个先发生,电话机都退出闹钟模式。
后一种选择适合于飞机模式。即使飞机计划在下午4点降落,在此时刻自动地开启电话机是不明智的。飞机常常晚点。对于用户来说最好是等待直到他下飞机并到达终点,然后手动地开启电话机。仅当用户命令退出时,电话机才退出飞机模式。不存在固定退出时间,并且当电话机处于飞机模式中时,不允许用户发出向外呼叫。
在任何一种模式中,电话簿、日历程序等等都保持开启状态。

                   较佳实施例的详细说明
图1是先有技术无线电话机(100)的方块图。包括向计数器(104)、处理器(106)、无线调制解调器(108)以及收发机(110)提供功率的电源(102)。收发机(110)通过天线(112)与外界通信。处理器与时钟日历(114)交换信号。当电话机处于功率节省模式中时,处理器断开电源和收发机间的开关(116),从而避免收发机消耗功率。该开关可以以硬件或软件实现。这样,打开开关的一种方法就是发出信号通知功率调节电路来从收发机上除去功率。处理器自身将进入功率节省模式。在该模式中,计数器(104)持续运行。当它倒计时到0时(虽然可以在需要时选择其它周期,但典型的是每隔2.5分钟),就通知处理器。处理器醒来正好将时钟-日历(114)复位,并随后继续回到睡眠状态。即使是在睡眠状态,处理器和调制解调器也汲取一些功率,但是功率量很小。
图2是根据本发明的无线电话机(200)的方块图。该结构与图1所示的先有技术电话机(100)相似,但有两处显著不同。首先,先有技术开关(116)更改为新开关(216),该开关既控制向收发机(110)提供功率也控制向调制解调器(108)提供功率。这样,当处理器命令功率节省模式时,功率就从调制解调器和收发机上收回,而不是仅仅针对收发机。其次,第2开关(218)在电源(102)与处理器(106)之间插入,并由计数器(204)控制。这样,在功率节省模式中,只有计数器汲取功率。处理器间歇地汲取功率,并且仅当处理器(106)命令开关(216)闭合时,调制解调器和收发机才汲取功率。
电话机可以选择地切断发射机和接收机的电源。电话机软件可以启动计数器,当计数时间到时,该计数器就产生信号。电话机软件能使CPU暂停操作并可任意地禁止CPU的时钟源直到信号到达。该信号可以来自计数器或来自其它设备,诸如键盘。
图3是操作无线电话机的新方法(300)的流程图。它显示出用于从处理器(106)到开关(216)选择地禁用(302)调制解调器和收发机的命令,可以来自三个源中的任何一个。第1个是外部命令(304)。当用户下飞机或在闹钟响前醒来时,他可以手动地离开功率节省模式。第2个是来自时钟-日历(306)。如果处理器从时钟-日历确定到了该叫醒用户的时间了,那么用户就可能希望能够接收电话呼叫等等。第3个是来自试图(308)向外呼叫。如果用户在晚间醒来并试图向外呼叫,那么他就可能希望调制解调器和收发机工作;他应该不需要通过外部命令手动地离开功率保持模式。
如果由外部命令(304)请求调用,选择禁用(302)调制解调器(108)和收发机(110)是强制性的。当用户登上飞机时,他必须能够切断调制解调器和收发机(而留下其它功能处于操作中),并且当他走出飞机时他必须能重新把它们开通。另外两个请求选择禁用(由时钟-日历(306)或试图向外呼叫(308))是可任选项。用户可以把他的电话机设置成当他进入闹钟模式时,他能够通过输入这些请求之一、全部或一个也不,来离开该模式。作为备择,制造商可以将电话机配置成响应这些请求之一、全部或一个也不响应,而无需用户有重新配置电话机的能力。工业应用
我们的发明能够利用于工业中,并且只要希望向无线电话机提供飞机和闹钟模式,可以制造和使用本发明。这里所示的彼此分开的装置和方法的个别组成部分可以完全是常规的,我们要求它们的组合作为我们的发明。
虽然我们已经说明了各种模式的装置和方法,但我的发明的实际要旨和范围并不局限于此,而是仅受下述权利要求及其等价要求限制,并且我们这样要求作为我们的发明。

Claims (10)

1.一种无线电话机(200),其中:
(a)该无线电话机包括计数器(204)、时钟-日历(114)、收发机(110)和电源(102);以及
(b)该无线电话机的特征在于该无线电话机包括:
(1)选择地从收发机除去或向其供给功率而不除去计数器的功率的装
置;
(2)计数装置,在完成倒计数的基础上,进行:
(A)如果没有提供功率,就向时钟-日历提供功率;以及
(B)更新时钟-日历。
2.如权利要求1所述的无线电话机,其特征在于:
(a)无线电话机还包括附加装置;以及
(b)选择地从收发机除去或向其供给功率的装置构造成这样工作而不除去额外装置的功率;
3.如权利要求3所述的无线电话机,其特征在于选择地从收发机除去或向其供给功率的装置包括使时钟-日历选择地除去收发机功率的装置。
4.如权利要求1所述的无线电话机,其特征在于选择地从收发机除去或向其供给功率的装置包括使时钟-日历选择地供给收发机功率的装置。
5.如权利要求1所述的无线电话机,其特征在于该无线电话机进一步构造成当把收发机从电源移开并试图发出向外呼叫时选择地向收发机供给功率。
6.如权利要求5所述的无线电话机,其特征在于选择地从收发机除去或向其供给功率的装置包括使时钟-日历选择地供给收发机功率的装置。
7.一种用于使用无线电话机的方法,其中:
(a)该无线电话机包括计数器(104)、处理器(106)、时钟-日历(114)、无线调制解调器(108)、收发机(110)和电源(102);
(b)该方法包括:
(1)倒计数计数器;
(2)完成倒计数后,向处理器供给功率;
(3)在由计数器的倒计数加电后,处理器更新时钟-日历;以及
(4)处理器选择地从收发机除去或向其供给功率;
(c)该方法,其特征在于进一步包括响应给处理器的外部命令(304),选择地向无线调制解调器连同收发机供给功率(302)。
8.如权利要求7所述的方法,其特征在于选择地向无线调制解调器连同收发机供给功率,也选择地响应来自时钟-日历的信号(306)。
9.如权利要求7所述的方法,其特征在于选择地向无线调制解调器连同收发机供给功率,也选择地响应试图发出向外呼叫(308)。
10.如权利要求9所述的方法,其特征在于选择地向无线调制解调器连同收发机供给功率,也选择地响应来自时钟-日历的信号(306)。
