技术领域
本发明涉及标记读取装置,更特别地涉及操作标记阅读器的方法。
背景技术
标记读取装置(也称为扫描仪、激光扫描仪、图像阅读器、标记阅读器等)通常读取由打印或显示的承载信息的标记(IBI)(也称为标志、符号、条码等)所表示的数据。例如,一种类型的标志是以特定方式排列的矩形条和区的阵列以表示机器可读形式的数据的元素。标记读取装置通常将光传送到标志上,并接收从条码标志或标记散射和/或反射的光。接收的光由执行信号和/或图像处理的处理器解释以提取标志所表示的数据。光学标记读取装置通常使用可见光或红外光。激光标记读取装置通常使用发射的激光。
一维(1D)标记阅读器的特征在于读取沿单个轴以条和区的宽度编码的数据,以使得这样的标志可沿着此轴以单次扫描读取,倘若沿此轴以足够高的分辨率对该标志采样的话。
为了使得在单个条码标志中编码更大量的数据,已经开发出多个一维堆叠的条码符号,这些条码符号将编码的数据分割为多行(每行包括各自的一维条码图案),这些行中的一些或全部必须被扫描和解码,接着被联系到一起以形成完整的消息。扫描仅在一维中仍需要相对较高的分辨率,但是需要在第二维上的不同位置的多次线性扫描以读取整个标志。

通常标记阅读器在性质上可以是便携和无线的,因此提供了附加的灵活性。在这些情况下,这样的阅读器构成了无线网络的一部分,在该无线网络中,在终端内收集的数据通过无线链路被传递到位于硬连线骨干网的主计算机内。例如,阅读器可包括用于与远端计算机进行通信的无线电设备或收发器。

示范性激光扫描仪使用激光束作为光源并使用往复式镜或旋像棱镜来回地跨IBI扫描激光束。使用一个或多个光电二极管来测量从条码反射回的光的强度。阅读器发射的光随着数据模式可快速地改变亮度,并且可设计光电二极管接收电路仅检测具有相同调制模式的信号。

其他被外壳支撑的示范性阅读器子系统或部件可包括一个或多个本地或板上(onboard)处理器170、本地存储器172、电池218、显示器116、小键盘214以及无线通信模块180。子系统可通过一个或多个总线168、数据线或其它信号或数据通信形式进行通信。标记阅读器可与一个或多个主机处理器118、本地主机/服务器122、本地存储器166、网络120或远程服务器主机/服务器134通信。
通信模块180可提供从成像阅读器112到其他标记阅读器或其它系统,例如服务器/远程处理器134的通信链路。
处理器(一个或多个)可与其它子系统位于板上,或在外壳内。处理器(一个或多个)和阅读器的功能的细节由可以存储在固件、远程或本地存储器中的特定配置设置或数据确定,或基于这些特定配置设置或数据来确定。可将配置设置安排为存储的参数表。
示范性处理器可以是带有片上控制器装置的混合信号阵列,其被设计为用一个单芯片可编程装置代替多个传统的基于MCU的系统部件。它可包括模拟和数字逻辑的可配置块,以及可编程互连。

阅读器和主机系统可配备彼此间自动查询并传递数据(例如配置设置或固件)的能力。可以在没有人为干预的情况下执行从主机到阅读器的固件升级以及配置设置的复制,以保证阅读器以相同的版次操作并具有相同的配置设置,这减少了用户的沮丧、停机时间、数据完整性并增加了效率。
主机系统可以以预定的时间间隔广播各种信息,例如固件版次、配置设置等。主机可接着下载更新的文件并在静止时间期间更新阅读器。阅读器可使用板上存储器或固件闪存以存储特定配置设置。
阅读器可通过串行连接、使用串行命令进行配置。可使用图形用户接口(GUI)来生成或读取串行命令,例如视觉菜单或类似这样的产品。这可以在本地实现,或者通过直接地或经由网络(例如因特网)将光学阅读器连接到远程计算机并且使远程计算机提供软件升级来以远程方式实现。
软件升级对于从一个阅读器到可能是不同制造商的新的或其它阅读器的迁移而言可能是必需的。如果被替代的阅读器的配置可被匹配或该配置匹配替代其的设备的配置,则升级可被简化。
如果阅读器软件可被替代,则阅读器可具有自动读出存储器中的配置设置并使得软件适配并使用不同的控制方法或不同的解码方法等等的能力。
用于升级的示范性实施例可提供基于PC的软件工具,以通过串行通信从目标阅读器装置(正被替代的装置)读出非默认的配置设置,并且接着将相同或等同的设置闪存(flash)入替代设备。这可被认为是直接配置映射方法,即读取(旧的)装置A上的配置设置,并将其闪存入(新的)装置B。

两个示范性实施例任一个都可与跨浏览器、客户端DHTML菜单生成器例如视觉菜单集成。阅读器的配置可被读出一次并接着使用无线或通过网络配置设施、硬拷贝或视频显示菜单或其他合适的方式被多次传播。
用户可使用远程更新系统来更新或替代存储的一个或多个配置设置或配置设置数据,这可通过直接或经由网络(例如因特网)将阅读器连接到远程处理器来实现。利用适当的软件,可编程所述远程处理器以从阅读器读取特定配置设置,例如软件配置。远程处理器可读取配置设置数据并在下载更新或新的软件时使用该数据。操作者可向远程处理器请求软件更新。该请求将由任一计算机接收,该计算机将读取驻留在光学阅读器上的当前软件配置,并确定合适的更新或替代软件。特定的条码符号类型具有特殊的数据码字或特征,这些码字或特征将它们标识为用于配置。使用这些码字或特征生成的条码通常被称为配置条码、菜单条码或承载菜单信息的标记(IBI)。典型地,扫描装置将与手册一起提供,该手册内具有配置条码,所述配置条码内用于具体地配置该装置。包括在配置条码内的数据可用于识别要选定(address)哪个设置,以及为该设置加载什么值。在一些情况下,如果该设置具有一定范围的可接受值(该范围可能很大),则几个配置条码被连续地扫描以配置该设置,这几个配置条码之一选定该设置并且一个或多个其他配置条码定义该值。
如此处所描述的,POT扫描仪可包括对操作者产生多项益处的LCD显示器,所述益处包括控制该装置以及与其它装置和系统通信的能力。
文本消息传送或发送文本是指在固定线路移动装置或移动装置与固定或便携式装置之间通过网络交换简短的书面消息。该术语是指使用短消息服务(SMS)发送的消息以及包括图像、视频以及声音内容的消息(称为多媒体消息服务或MMS消息)。多媒体消息服务与SMS(短消息服务)不同,这是由于多媒体消息服务包括照片、视频等。文本消息的发送方被称为文本书写者(texter),而服务本身依赖于地区而具有不同俗语,在北美、印度、澳大利亚、菲律宾和英国它可简单地被称为文本,在大多数欧洲国家称为SMS,在中东和亚洲称为TMS或SMS。
文本消息可用于与自动化系统交互,例如移动装置的定购产品和服务,或者参与竞赛。广告商和服务提供商使用文本向移动装置用户通知促销、付款到期日以及其他通知。
移动装置的文本消息传送或移动装置可包括字母表的所有26个字母以及10个数字,也就是文本书写者将发送或文本接收者将接收的字母数字式的消息或文本。
MMS可以是通过无线网络使用WAP协议来传输图形、视频片段、声音文件和短文本消息的存储-转发方法。运营商部署特殊服务器 - 称之为MMS中心(MMSC),来在他们系统上实现提供。MMS也支持电子邮件寻址,如果装置可向电子邮件地址直接发送电子邮件。MMS可用于扫描仪和扫描移动装置(例如POT扫描仪、移动装置、PDT、PDA等等)之间的通信。
MMS消息是指多媒体消息,多媒体消息包括通过移动装置在移动装置网络中发送的文本、音频、视频、各种其他多媒体内容。
MMS消息扩展SMS的发送容量,SMS的发送容量仅限于多至160或70个字符长度的文本消息。由于它们的扩展内容,MMS消息以与SMS消息不同的方式发送。发送装置首先编码消息,接着将其转发到MMS中心(MMSC)。MMSC通知消息的接收方装置。接收方装置从MMSC下载内容,并显示该内容。一些移动装置由于其屏幕仅能显示文本,所以其不能显示MMS内容。如果接收方装置可能无法显示消息,则MMSC发送包括URL(网页地址)的文本消息,在URL处可打开和观看MMS消息。
MMS消息可兼容从不同的介质发送。除了GSM移动装置之外,MMS服务使得专用MMS网关能够传递MMS。企业通过在它们的系统中安装MMS网关软件而使用自动化MMS发送。这样的软件可适于发送SMS和MMS内容这二者。
MMS网关建立GPRS链路并从MMSC下载MMS消息。当下载发生时,可为该消息指定唯一的消息ID。知道进入的MMS消息由单独的文件例如JPG和GIF图片、WAV文件和TXT内容组成是重要的。它们是带有ID的消息的附件并被保存到与消息相同的下载目录。进入收件箱,显示消息ID与附件列表,并且可在下载目录中找到。
也可通过预订MMS服务来接收MMS消息。预订者向预设的移动装置号码发送代码并接收带有内容的MMS。MMS消息可包括铃声、墙纸、图片、照片、视频或音乐。在将它们保存到GSM装置之后,使用MMS内容变得可能。图像可设置为背景图片,并且带有视频和音乐的文件可用作铃声。
MMS消息可提供不受限制的通信、自我表现以及信息调解的方式。MMS消息是用于贸易和商业的有用工具,因为它们将更明确地展示内容并在内容中不留空白。图像和音频有助于强调简单文本消息的含义,否则简单文本消息无法引起兴趣。
无线应用协议(WAP)可以是开放国际标准。WAP浏览器可为小型移动装置通常使用的web浏览器。
然而,MMS可与电子邮件不相同。MMS基于多媒体消息传送的概念。消息的呈现可编码为呈现文件,以便图像、声音和文本以预定次序作为一个单独消息被展示。MMS不支持附件,而电子邮件支持。
在POT的扫描装置上(例如条码扫描仪上)可使用MMS文本消息传送。
MMS是SMS(短消息传送服务)的下一代。MMS将文本消息传送扩展为包括更长的文本、图形、照片、音频片段、视频片段、或任何组合。
短信息服务(SMS)是移动装置、web或移动通信系统的、使用标准化的通信协议的文本通信服务组件,所述协议允许在固定线路或移动装置之间,通常在蜂窝移动装置之间,或从PC或手持式设备到蜂窝移动装置交换短文本消息。在世界的许多部分中,术语SMS被用作所有类型的短文本消息传送以及用户活动本身的同义词。“短”部分是指文本消息的最大大小,例如160个字符(字母,拉丁字母表中的数字或符号)。
移动装置通过被称为控制信道的通路不断地发送和接收信息,与蜂窝移动装置塔进行交谈。这是为了使得蜂窝移动装置系统知道移动装置在哪个小区中,以便移动装置在四处移动时可改变小区。偶尔,移动装置和蜂窝塔将交换用于确认可操作的通信条件的数据分组。
移动装置还使用控制信道进行呼叫建立。当某人试图呼叫移动装置时,蜂窝塔通过控制信道向移动装置发送消息,该消息告知移动装置播放它的铃声。该塔也给予移动装置一对语音信道频率以用于呼叫。
控制信道还为SMS消息提供通路。当SMS消息被发送时,该消息流过SMSC,接着流到该塔,并且该塔在控制信道上向移动装置发送作为小数据分组的消息。同样地,移动装置在控制信道向该塔发送消息,并且该消息从塔到SMSC并从那里到达其目的地。
MMS可用于从照相机移动装置向其他MMS移动装置或可支持SMIL的电子邮件帐户MMS平台发送照片和视频,这允许MMS消息的各个部分被安排到将在另一个支持SMIL的MMS移动装置上查看的小的多媒体“幻灯片”中。
以与SMS消息不同的方式递送MMS消息。第一步是发送装置以类似于发送MIME电子邮件(MIME内容格式在MMS消息封装规范中定义)的形式编码多媒体内容。消息接着被转发到运营商的MMS存储转发服务器(其被称为MMSC)。如果接收者在另一个运营商上,则中继站使用因特网将消息转发给接收方的运营商。
一旦MMSC接收到消息,它就首先确定接收者的手机是否“支持MMS”,即接收者手机支持接收MMS的标准。如果支持,则提取内容并将其发送到带有HTTP前端的临时存储服务器。包括该内容的URL的SMS“控制消息”接着被发送到接收方手机以触发接收者的WAP浏览器打开并从嵌入的URL接收内容。若干其它消息被交换以指示递送尝试的状态。在递送内容之前,一些MMSC也包括转换服务,所述转换服务将尝试把多媒体内容修改为适合接收者的格式。这称为“内容适配”。
如果接收者的手机不支持MMS,则消息通常被递送到基于web的服务,在那里可以从普通的互联网浏览器查看该内容。该内容的URL通常在普通的文本消息中被发送到接收者的移动装置。这种行为通常称为“传统体验(legacy experience)”,因为即使移动装置本身不支持MMS,但是由于移动装置号码仍可以接收内容。
用于确定手机是否支持MMS的方法没有被标准所规定。操作者通常维护数据库,并且在该数据库中将每个移动装置号码标记为与传统手机关联或不关联。由于顾客可随意改变他们的手机,所以这种方法可能有点随意性,并且该数据库通常并不动态更新。
可建立到MMS(和SMS)系统的电子邮件和基于web的网关。在接收端,内容服务器典型地可从WAP和普通的HTTP浏览器二者接收服务请求,所以通过web的递送是简单的。为了从外部源向手机进行发送,大部分运营商允许MIME编码的消息发送到带有特定域的接收者的移动装置号码。此实例可为PTN@messaging.carrier.com,此处PTN是公共移动电信或移动装置号码。典型地,该特殊域名是运营商特定的。
使用MMS,手机配置可引发发送和接收MMS消息的问题。而言,由一种品牌的MMS移动装置所生成的内容多媒体内容可能不能完全与接收方的MMS移动装置的能力相兼容。在MMS架构中,接收方MMSC负责提供内容适配(例如图像调整大小、音频编解码器代码转换等等),如果该特征被移动网络操作者启用的话。当内容适配被网络操作者所支持时,其MMS订户将享受到比不支持时可获得的更大的MMS用户网络的兼容性。
MMS要求设置多个手机参数。对许多用户而言,差的手机配置通常被指责为第一失败点。服务设置有时是预配置在手机上的,但是移动操作者现在将新的装置管理技术看作是通过无线编程(OTA)递送数据服务(MMS、WAP等等)的必需设置的手段。
少数移动网络操作者为内容提供者提供到其MMSC的直接连接。这已经导致许多内容提供者使用WAP推送作为可用于向移动手机递送“丰富内容”的唯一方法。WAP推送通过指定预编译的MMS的URL(通过二进制SMS)使得“丰富内容”能够被递送到手机,所述预编译的MMS在内容提供者的web服务器上托管。虽然该标准没有指定消息的最大大小,但是由于对WAP网关侧的一些限制,所以300kB是当前被推荐的大小。
至于在具有交易点(POT)位置的机构中使用的条码扫描仪,每个条码扫描仪具有自己唯一的文本或道次号码。该道次号码可接收将立即在单元的显示器上显示的全文本消息,所述显示器只对操作者可见。可听到的蜂鸣或闪光可向用户通知接收到消息,这用作向用户(例如出纳员)通知价格或安全警告消息的不连续方法。在扫描仪具有MMS、SMS消息或文本通信的能力的情况下,整个商店可从商店管理办公室到收银柜台处于不连续的通信中。不连续的消息传送通信工具的使用的示范性实施例可为:联机识别开了空头支票的顾客;识别购买了过多可疑物质,例如丁烷、镇静剂、氧化亚氮产品、烟草等等的顾客;提供诸如“购买香烟或酒精要求ID”消息、“要求看签名”消息等之类的提醒。
在示范性实施例中,机构例如商店雇佣的人可从他/她自己的个人蜂窝移动装置或商店拥有的移动装置发送所获取的价格检查扫描,而不是必须走到POT或店面来提供所扫描的价格信息。
在示范性实施例中,机构识别从承载信息的介质获得的信息或数据,所述承载信息的介质例如具有磁条(磁带)或标志标记(例如一维或二维符号)的卡、RFID仪器、生物统计学信息例如指纹或视网膜等。该机构接着从机构服务器或远程服务器获取承载信息的介质的持有人(即顾客)的识别信息(例如驾照信息、地址信息、照片、图片等等),并通过消息将该识别信息发送到存在于持有人的位置(例如在POT处)的扫描仪。
图3中操作扫描系统的示范性流程图开始于顾客在POT 510处。在客户在POT处时,机构向POT 514处的扫描仪发送消息,并向扫描仪操作者发信号通知消息已经被发送518。扫描仪操作者读取消息522,被告之或决定526继续交易530或终止交易534。
在示范性实施例中,机构识别从承载信息的介质获得的信息或数据,所述承载信息的介质例如具有磁条(磁带)或标志标记(例如一维或二维符号)的卡、RFID仪器、生物统计学信息例如指纹或视网膜等。该机构接着从机构服务器或远程服务器获取承载信息的介质的持有人(即顾客)的识别信息(例如驾照信息、地址信息、照片、图片等等),并通过消息将该识别信息发送到不同于存在于持有人的位置的扫描仪的扫描仪,或除了存在于持有人的位置的扫描仪以外的扫描仪。为了安全的目的,识别信息可发送到机构中的多个扫描仪。
此处描述的是一种操作标记阅读器的方法,在标记阅读器上提供显示器,该标记阅读器适于手持操作以读取在交易点(POT)处的承载信息的标记(IBI);配置标记阅读器接受机构特定通知;使用标记阅读器读取POT处的IBI;并且当机构根据预定规则集、算法、观察、或其他识别安全风险的输入而认识到需要特定通知要求时,在标记阅读器显示器上提供从机构到POT处的标记阅读器的操作者的至少一个MMS、SMS或其他文本通信。
可以理解的是此处描述的程序、过程、方法和设备不与任何特定类型的计算机或网络设备(硬件或软件)相联系或被其限制。依照此处描述的教导,可使用各种类型的通用的或专用的计算机设备或由其执行操作。虽然优选实施例的各种元件已被描述为以软件实施,但是在其他实施例中,可选地,可使用硬件或固件实施。示出的实施例仅用于示范,并不应被视为是对本发明范围的限制。例如,流程图的步骤可按照与所描述的序列不同的序列实现,并且在框图中可使用更多、更少或其它元件。同样,除非申请人在本申请中明确否认的任何主题之外,此处没有特定的实施例或主题被认为是否认的。
Claims (10)
1.一种操作标记阅读器系统的方法,包括:
在标记阅读器上提供图形用户接口(GUI)以读取在机构的交易点(POT)处的承载信息的标记(IBI);
利用所述标记阅读器读取所述POT处的所述IBI,其中所述IBI位于与所述POT处的顾客相关联的承载信息的介质上;
基于所述IBI确定与所述顾客相关联的识别信息;
响应于基于所述识别信息确定安全风险以及基于所述安全风险确定特定通知要求,使所述GUI显示至少一个多媒体消息服务(MMS)文本或一个短消息服务(SMS)文本。
2.根据权利要求1所述的方法,还包括:
经由消息向除所述POT处的标记阅读器之外的第二标记阅读器发送所述识别信息。
3.根据权利要求1所述的方法,还包括:
提供从所述标记阅读器到所述机构处的其它标记阅读器的通信链路。
4.根据权利要求1所述的方法,还包括:
从远程更新系统接受通信。
5.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中所述至少一个MMS文本包括POT处的顾客的图片。
6.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中所述识别信息包括与所述顾客相关联的地址信息。
7.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中所述承载信息的介质包括RFID仪器。
8.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中所述承载信息的介质包括具有至少磁条或标志标记的卡。
9.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中所述IBI包括生物统计学信息。
10.根据权利要求1所述的方法,还包括以可听见的方式信号通知所述标记阅读器的操作者关于所述至少一个MMS文本或一个SMS文本。
