背景技术
液晶装置可通过外部信号(例如,施加的电压)切换液晶的取向状态来控制透光率,因此可用作可变透光装置。这样的液晶装置还可应用于有机发光二极管(OLED)用遮光板或车辆用各种遮光产品和智能窗以及各种信息装置用显示器。
液晶装置的遮光或透光机制可分为透明白色态、透明黑色态和散射态,并且典型的液晶装置是在透明白色态和透明黑色态之间、或在透明白色态和散射态之间切换的二态装置。其中,透明白色态可为具有高平行光透射率和低雾度的状态,透明黑色态可为具有低平行光透射率和低雾度的状态,而散射态可为具有低平行光透射率和高雾度的状态。
应用于显示器的液晶装置通常可在透明白色态和透明黑色态之间切换的装置,以及在透明白色态和散射态之间切换的装置,其使用例如专利文献1中所公开的所谓聚合物分散液晶(PDLC)。

技术方案
本申请涉及三态液晶装置。本文中使用的术语“三态液晶装置”可为能够实现透明白色态、透明黑色态和散射态的全部并且能够在这三态之间相互切换的装置。
本文中使用的术语“透明白色态”可为液晶装置或液晶层的平行光透射率为50%或更大并且雾度为5%或更小的状态,并且可称作第一态。此外,术语“透明黑色态”可指平行光透射率为35%或更小并且雾度为5%或更小的状态,并且可称作第二态。术语“散射态”可为平行光透射率为10%或更小并且雾度为80%或更大的状态,并且可称作第三态。

液晶装置可在初始态下为第一态或第二态。本文中的术语“初始态”可指未施加用于驱动液晶化合物的外部信号例如电压的状态。
在上述初始态下,液晶装置可通过施加具有预定频率的电压或者通过改变所施加电压的水平或者除去施加的电压而切换至不同的态(第一态至第三态中任一者)。

液晶装置的液晶层可包含至少液晶化合物。作为液晶化合物,可根据用途没有特别限制地选择合适的类型。在一个示例性实施方案中,作为液晶化合物,可使用向列型液晶化合物。液晶化合物可为非反应型液晶化合物。术语“非反应型液晶化合物”可为不具有可聚合基团的液晶化合物。此处,作为可聚合基团,可以没有限制地使用丙烯酰基、丙烯酰氧基、甲基丙烯酰基、甲基丙烯酰氧基、羧基、羟基、乙烯基、或环氧基,并且可包括称为可聚合基团的常规官能团。
包含在液晶层中的液晶化合物可具有正或负介电各向异性。术语“介电各向异性”可指液晶化合物的非常(extraordinary)介电各向异性(长轴方向的介电常数)或寻常(ordinary)介电各向异性(短轴上的介电常数)之间的差。液晶化合物的介电各向异性可为例如,小于±40、±30、±10、±7、±5或±3。将液晶化合物的介电各向异性控制在上述范围内可以在液晶装置的驱动效率方面有益。
存在于液晶层中的液晶化合物的折射率各向异性可通过考虑期望的物理性质(例如,液晶装置的雾度特性)来适当地选择。术语“折射率各向异性”可指液晶化合物的非常折射率与寻常折射率之差。液晶化合物的折射率各向异性可为例如,在0.1或更大、0.12或更大、或者0.15或更大,并且0.23或更小、0.25或更小、或者0.3或更小的范围内。当液晶化合物的折射率各向异性满足上述范围时,例如,可实现具有优异雾度特性的一般透射模式装置。
液晶层可包含用于控制电导率的合适添加剂。添加剂可为例如,离子杂质、离子液体、盐、反应性单体、引发剂或二色性染料。知晓能够控制液晶层的电导率的化合物。例如,可使用2,2,6,6-四甲基哌啶-1-氧自由基(TEMPO)作为离子杂质,[1-丁基-3-甲基咪唑]BF4(BMIN-BF4)作为离子液体,十六烷基三甲基溴化铵(CTAB)、十六烷基三甲基碘化铵(CTAI)或十六烷基三甲基三碘化铵(CTAI3)作为盐,与液晶良好混合的具有液晶元(mesogen)基团的反应型液晶元作为反应性单体,例如2,4,6-三甲基苯甲酰基-二苯基-氧化膦(TPO)作为引发剂,例如偶氮类染料如BASF生产的X12作为二色性染料,但本发明不限于此。液晶层中的化合物的比例可通过考虑期望的电导率和液晶化合物的取向特性适当地选择。
在一个示例性实施方案中,液晶层可包含反应型液晶元作为用于控制电导率的添加剂以有效地确保上述电导率和在液晶中的优异溶解性,减小扩散特性之差,并且具有优异的物理性质。术语“反应型液晶元(即,反应型液晶化合物)”可为具有一个或更多个可聚合官能团的液晶化合物。例如,当将非反应型液晶化合物与作为电导率调节剂的反应型液晶元混合时,可有效地实现上述电导率,并且可稳定地保持液晶层的物理性质。反应型液晶元可以以未反应的状态存在,即,以未聚合的状态存在于液晶层中,并且在需要时,可至少部分聚合。
作为可以在本申请中使用的反应型液晶元,可使用这样的反应型液晶元,其中可聚合官能团连接至包含1至6、1至5、1至4、或1至3个芳香族环结构或脂肪族环结构的液晶元核。此处,当存在两个或更多个芳香族或脂肪族环结构时,两个或更多个环结构可彼此直接连接或通过连接体连接,由此组成液晶元核。此处,连接体可为具有1至10、1至8或1至6个碳原子的亚烷基,酯基(-C(=O)-O-或-O-C(=O)-),醚基,具有2至10、2至8或2至6个碳原子的亚烯基,具有1至10、1至8或1至6个碳原子的氧化烯基(-O-亚烷基-、-亚烷基-O-或亚烷基-O-亚烷基-)。此处,芳香族环结构可为具有6至20、6至16或6至12个碳原子的芳香族环结构,例如苯基。此外,脂肪族环结构可具有6至20、6至16或6至12个碳原子,并且可为例如,环己烷结构。同时,反应型液晶元可包含1至10、1至8、1至6、1至4或1或2个可聚合官能团。这样的可聚合基团可连接至液晶元核。可聚合基团可与液晶元核直接连接或使用合适的间隔物连接,间隔物与连接体为相同类型。此外,可聚合官能团可为丙烯酰基、丙烯酰氧基、甲基丙烯酰基、甲基丙烯酰氧基、羧基、羟基、乙烯基、或环氧基,但本发明不限于此。
在本申请中,可将液晶层中反应型液晶元的比例控制在可以实现电导率的范围内。例如,反应型液晶元相对于100重量份非反应型液晶化合物可以1重量份至30重量份包含在内。在另一个示例性实施方案中,反应型液晶元的比例可为5重量份或更大以及25重量份或更小、20重量份或更小、或者15重量份或更小。
液晶层可不包含离子化合物,例如上述离子液体或盐。虽然这样的离子化合物是众所周知的用于控制液晶层的电导率的添加剂,但是本发明人确定这样的化合物因具有相对于液晶化合物的低溶解性而使液晶层的物理性质劣化。因此,液晶层中离子化合物的比例可为2重量%或更小、1.5重量%或更小、1重量%或更小、或者约0.7重量%或更小。由于离子化合物为任意组分,因此其比例的下限为0重量%。
液晶层还可包含二色性染料。二色性染料可改善例如液晶装置的遮光度,因此有助于可变透射率。术语“染料”可为能够强烈吸收和/或改变至少部分或整个可见区范围内,例如400nm至700nm波长范围的光的材料,术语“二色性染料”可为能够各向异性地吸收至少部分或整个可见区范围的光的材料。
作为二色性染料,例如,可选择和使用已知因所谓的主-宾效应而根据液晶化合物的取向状态取向的常规染料。二色性染料可为例如黑色染料。这样的染料是已知的,例如,如偶氮染料或蒽醌染料,但本发明不限于此。
作为二色性染料,可使用二色比(即,通过用与二色性染料的长轴平行的偏振光的吸收除以与长轴方向垂直的方向平行的偏振光的吸收而获得的值)为5或更大、6或更大、或者7或更大的染料。染料可满足可见区波长范围内,例如至少部分波长范围或者约380nm至700nm、或约400nm至700nm之间任一波长的二色比。二色比的上限可为例如约20或更小、18或更小、16或更小、或者14或更小。
液晶层中二色性染料的比例可根据目标物理性质,例如可变透射率特性来选择性选择。例如,二色性染料可以以0.01重量%或更大、0.1重量%或更大、0.2重量%或更大、0.3重量%或更大、0.4重量%或更大、0.5重量%或更大、0.6重量%或更大、0.7重量%或更大、0.8重量%或更大、0.9重量%或更大、或者1.0重量%或更大包含在液晶层中。液晶层中二色性染料的比例的上限可为例如,2重量%或更小、1.9重量%或更小、1.8重量%或更小、1.7重量%或更小、1.6重量%或更小、1.5重量%或更小、1.4重量%或更小、1.3重量%或更小、1.2重量%或更小、或者1.1重量%或更小。
液晶层还可包含聚合物网络。聚合物网络可充当例如,用于维持液晶层中间隙的间隔物。聚合物网络可与液晶化合物相分离。聚合物网络可分布在连续相液晶化合物中,换言之,可以以所谓的聚合物网络液晶(PNLC)结构或者分布有包含液晶化合物的液晶区的结构(即,所谓的聚合物分散液晶(PDLC)结构)包含在液晶层中。
聚合物网络可为例如,包含可聚合化合物的前体的网络。因此,聚合物网络可包含聚合态下的可聚合化合物。作为可聚合化合物,可使用不表现结晶性的非结晶化合物。作为可聚合物化合物,可使用已知形成所谓的PDLC或PNLC装置的聚合物网络的具有一个或更多个可聚合官能团的化合物,并且在需要时,可使用没有可聚合官能团的非可聚合化合物。作为包含在前体中的可聚合化合物,可使用丙烯酸酯化合物,但本发明不限于此。
液晶层中聚合物网络的比例可通过考虑目标物理性质,例如液晶装置的雾度或透射率特性来适当选择。聚合物网络可以以例如,40重量%或更小、38重量%或更小、36重量%或更小、34重量%或更小、32重量%或更小、或者30重量%或更小的比例包含在液晶层中。液晶层中聚合物网络的比例的下限可为,但不特别限于例如,0.1重量%或更大、1重量%,2重量%或更大、3重量%或更大、4重量%或更大、5重量%或更大、6重量%或更大、7重量%或更大、8重量%或更大、9重量%或更大、或者10重量%或更大。
本申请的液晶装置还可包括例如两个基底,并且液晶层可存在于所述基底之间。如图1中所示,在液晶装置中,两个基底1011和1012面对彼此,液晶层102可存在于面对彼此的两个基底1011和1012之间。
已知材料可以没有特别限制地用作基底。例如,可使用无机或塑料膜,如玻璃膜,结晶或非结晶硅膜,或者石英或氧化铟锡(ITO)膜。可使用光学各向同性基底、光学各向异性基底例如延迟层或偏光板或滤色器基底作为基底。
可使用包含以下的基底作为塑料基底:三乙酰纤维素(TAC);环烯烃共聚物(COP),例如降冰片烯衍生物;聚(甲基丙烯酸甲酯)(PMMA);聚碳酸酯(PC);聚乙烯(PE);聚丙烯(PP);聚乙烯醇(PVA);二乙酰纤维素(DAC);聚丙烯酸酯(Pac);聚醚砜(PES);聚醚醚酮(PEEK);聚苯砜(PPS);聚醚酰亚胺(PEI);聚萘二甲酸乙二醇酯(PEN);聚对苯二甲酸乙二醇酯(PET);聚酰亚胺(PI);聚砜(PSF);聚芳酯(PAR)或无定形氟树脂,但本发明不限于此。必要时,基底可包含金,银,硅化合物例如二氧化硅或一氧化硅的涂层,或者防反射层的涂层。
基底可以是具有液晶取向特性的基底。术语“具有液晶取向特性的基底”可以是提供取向能力而影响相邻液晶化合物的取向,例如使相邻液晶化合物沿预定方向取向的基底。由于液晶层存在于具有液晶取向特性的两个基底之间,因此可以保持合适的初始取向状态。在液晶装置中,面对彼此的两个基底可以是例如具有垂直或水平取向特性的基底。本文中使用的术语“具有垂直或水平取向特性的基底”可以是具有使相邻液晶化合物能够在垂直方向或水平方向上取向的取向特性的基底。
作为具有液晶取向特性的基底,例如可使用具有取向膜的基底。因此,液晶装置还可包括与液晶层相邻的取向膜。例如,如图2中所示,取向膜201和202可分别朝向液晶层102存在于面对彼此的两个基底1011和1012上。每个取向膜可以是例如触摸取向膜如摩擦取向膜,或通过非接触方法如因包含光学取向膜化合物而产生的线偏振光的辐射而显示取向特性的已知取向膜。
取向诱导的基底的另一个实例可以是具有自液晶取向特性的基底。例如,可使用具有亲水性表面的基底作为具有垂直取向的基底。具有亲水表面的基底对于水的润湿角可为例如,约0度至50度、0度至40度、0度至30度、0度至20度、或0度至10、或10度至50度、20度至50度、或30度至50度。此处,测量基底对于水的润湿角的方法没有特别限制,并且可使用本领域已知的例如使用由KRUSS生产的DSA100仪器根据制造商手册测量润湿角的方法。为了使基底具有亲水性表面,例如可以在基底上进行亲水处理,或者可使用包含亲水性官能团的基底。亲水处理可以是电晕处理、等离子体处理或碱处理。
液晶装置还可包括电极层,例如与液晶层相邻的电极层。例如,如图3中所示,电极层301和302可分别朝向液晶层102存在于面对彼此的两个基底1011和1012上。当取向膜存在于基底的液晶层的两个表面上时,基底、电极层和取向膜可依次存在。可向液晶层提供这样的电极层,以转换液晶层中液晶化合物的取向状态。电极层可通过沉积导电聚合物、导电金属、导电纳米线或例如ITO的金属氧化物来形成。电极层可形成为具有透明性。在该领域中,用于形成透明电极层的各种材料和方法可以是已知的,并且可以应用所有这些方法。在需要时,形成与基底的表面上的电极层可以适当地图案化。
在需要时,液晶层还可以包括布置在液晶层的一侧或两侧的偏振层。偏振层可以用于根据液晶化合物的取向态控制液晶装置的透光率。可以没有特别限制地使用已知的材料作为偏振层,并且例如,可以施用基于聚(乙烯醇)(PVA)偏振层,液晶取向层如溶致液晶(LLC),或反应型液晶元(RM)和各向异性染料。当偏振层布置在液晶层的两侧时,偏振层的光透射轴之间的关系没有特别限制,并且可以根据期望的模式来控制。
在需要时,液晶装置还可以包含除上述组分之外的已知任意组分。
液晶装置可以根据在相同的频率下施加的电压的水平实现上述第一态至第三态中的任一者,并且通过电压的改变或去除而切换至另一态。
在各态下,对液晶化合物的取向状态没有特别限定,例如可以根据偏振层或液晶层中二色性染料的存在或不存在来选择合适的取向。
在一个示例性实施方案中,液晶层可在第一态下处于的垂直取向状态。垂直取向状态可以是其中的液晶化合物基本上垂直取向并且具有上述面内和厚度方向延迟(Rin和Rth)的状态。
液晶层可在第二态下处于水平取向状态、垂直取向状态、扭曲取向状态或混合取向状态。此处,水平取向状态可以是其中的液晶化合物的分子基本上水平取向,并且具有上述面内和厚度方向延迟(Rin和Rth)的状态;扭曲取向状态可以是水平取向的液晶化合物沿虚拟螺旋轴以预定角度旋转的状态;而混合取向状态可以是水平取向状态、垂直取向状态和扭曲取向状态、和倾斜(splay)取向状态中的两者或更多者一起存在的状态。
液晶层可在第三态下处于电流体动力学不稳定(EHDI)态。在这种状态下,液晶化合物可以没有确定规律地无规取向,从而诱发高雾度。
作为可实现的液晶装置,可以使用在初始态下处于第一态并根据在相同的频率下施加的电压的水平切换至第二态和/或第三态的装置。
在这样的装置中,液晶层可以在第一态下垂直取向,在第二态下水平取向,而在第三态下为EHDI。例如,这样的装置可以使用垂直取向膜提供液晶取向能力,并且可以使用具有负介电各向异性的液晶化合物作为液晶化合物来实现。在这种状态下,在需要时,偏振层可以存在于液晶层的两侧。
作为另一种可实现的液晶装置,可以使用在初始态下处于第二态并根据在相同的频率下施加的电压的水平切换至第一态和/或第三态的装置。
在这样的装置中,液晶层可以在第一态下为水平取向或扭曲取向或混合取向的,这与在第一态下倾斜取向、垂直取向相同,并在第三态下处于EHDI态。这样的装置可以例如使用水平取向膜和具有正介电各向异性的液晶实现,使用在液晶层两侧具有不同取向方向的两个取向膜和具有正介电各向异性的液晶实现,或者通过向液晶层的两侧施用水平取向膜和垂直取向膜来实现,以及使用具有正介电各向异性的液晶化合物作为液晶化合物来实现。在这种状态下,在需要时,偏振层可以存在于液晶层的两侧。
实现具有各个结构的液晶装置的方法没有特别限制,并且上述液晶装置可使用制造液晶装置的常规方法通过控制液晶层的电导率的控制过程来实现。
本申请还可涉及制造包括液晶层的液晶装置的方法。制造液晶装置的方法可以是上述制造液晶装置的方法。
因此,制造方法可包括将液晶层的平行电导率调节为1.0×10-4μS/cm或更大。通过上述步骤,液晶装置可以形成为在上述第一态至第三态之间切换。
此处,控制液晶层的电导率的方法没有特别限制,并且例如,可以应用适当选择本文所用的材料的类型(例如液晶化合物和/或二色性染料)的方法,或者添加上述盐组分的方法。
在制造液晶装置的方法中,上述描述可以应用于其他内容,例如,第一态至第三态的定义或者用于驱动而施加的频率和电压(V1和V2)的条件。
本申请还可涉及驱动包括液晶层的液晶装置的方法。驱动液晶装置的方法可以与上述相同。
因此,制造方法可以包括向平行电导率为1.0×10-4μS/cm或更大的液晶层施加电压,并且控制液晶装置的在相同的频率下施加的电压的水平以实现上述第一态至第三态的任一者。此外,该方法还可包括控制所施加电压的水平以从第一态至第三态中任一者切换至另一者。
在上述方法中,控制所施加电压的水平以驱动液晶装置的方法没有特别限制,并且可根据上述条件进行。
本申请还可涉及液晶装置的用途,例如作为包括液晶装置的光调制器。这样的光调制器可以应用于各种用途,并且可以应用于例如车窗、智能窗、窗保护膜、显示器、显示器用遮光板、3D图像显示器用主动延迟器、或视角控制膜。
有益效果
本申请涉及液晶装置。本申请的液晶装置可根据在相同的频率下所施加电压的水平而实现透明白色态、透明黑色态和散射态。所述液晶装置可应用于例如,车窗、智能窗、窗保护膜、显示器、显示器用遮光板、3D图像显示器用主动延迟器、或视角控制膜。

具体实施方式
下文中,将参照实施例和比较例更详细地解释上述描述,但本申请的范围不受以下描述限制。
1.电导率的评估
在测量频率为60Hz且测量电压为0.5V的条件下使用LCR仪(E4980A,Agilent)在室温下对实施例和比较例制造的液晶装置测量电导率值。通过施加垂直电压即厚度方向上的电压对垂直取向的液晶层测量平行电导率,并在需要时,通过施加垂直电压对水平取向的液晶层测量垂直电导率。将各液晶装置的液晶层制造成测定面积为9cm2(宽度:3cm,长度:3cm)且厚度为15μm。
2.雾度和透射率的评估
根据ASTM D1003规范使用雾度计NDH-5000SP对实施例和比较例制造的液晶装置测量雾度和透射率。即,当光透过测量目标并入射到积分球的入口时,光被分成被测量目标漫射的光(DT,通过漫射在所有方向上发射的光的总和)和平行光(PT,除漫射光以外的向前方向发射的光),并且通过将光聚集在积分球中的光接收装置上,可以使用集中的光来测量雾度。即,在该过程中,总透过的光(TT)是漫射光(DT)和平行光(PT)的和(DT+PT),雾度可以被定义为漫射光相对于总透射光的百分比(雾度(%)=100xDT/TT)。另外,在以下实验例中,总透射率涉及全部透射光(TT),平行透射率涉及平行光(PT)。
制备例1.
将各自具有顺序形成的透明ITO电极层和垂直取向膜的两个聚碳酸酯(PC)膜彼此分离,以使垂直取向膜面对彼此并具有约15μm的单元间隙,将液晶组合物注入两个分离的PC膜之间,并且将其边缘密封,由此制造面积为9cm2且单元间隙为15μm的液晶装置。实验中使用的液晶组合物包含重量比(HNG730600-200:X12:HCM-009)为89.9:0.1:10的折射率各向异性为0.15且介电各向异性为-5.0的液晶化合物(制造商:HCCH,商品名:HNG730600-200)、二色性染料(制造商:BASF,商品名:X12)、和用于控制电导率的添加剂(制造商:HCCH,商品名:HCM-009)。如上述制造的液晶层的平行电导率的实际值为约3.1×10-6S,通过使用式1至3将上述值转换成对应于面积为1cm2且厚度为1cm的液晶层的值所获得的结果为5.2×10-4μS/cm。
实验例1.
在60Hz的固定驱动频率和可变的施加电压下,对制备例1中制造的液晶装置评估总透射率和雾度,结果总结在图4和5中。图4示出总透射率,图5示出雾度。参考图4和5,可以确定,制备例1的液晶装置能够在约60Hz和10V或更小下实现第一态和第二态,并且因在60V施加电压下驱动的EHDI而导致透射率和雾度饱和。
对于这样的装置,将第一态(液晶化合物的分子垂直取向的状态)、第二态(液晶化合物的分子水平取向的状态)和第三态(EHDI态)的合适条件总结并列在表1中。

制备例2
以与制备例1中相同的方式制备液晶装置,不同之处在于,在本实验中使用的液晶组合物包含重量比(HNG730600-200:X12:HCM-099:CTAB)为89.9:0.1:9.5:0.5的折射率各向异性为0.15且介电各向异性为-5.0的液晶化合物(制造商:HCCH,商品名:HNG730600-200)、二色性染料(制造商:BASF,商品名:X12)、用于控制电导率的第一添加剂(制造商:HCCH,商品名:HCM-009)、以及用于控制电导率的第二添加剂(制造商:Aldrich,商品名:CTAB)。如上所述制造的液晶层的平行电导率的实际值为约1.0×10-5S,通过使用式1至3将上述值转换成对应于面积为1cm2且厚度为1cm的液晶层的值所获得的结果为1.7×10-3μS/cm。
实验例2.
在可变驱动频率和电压下,在制备例1中制造的液晶装置上评估总透射率和雾度,结果总结在图6至11中。图6至8示出在将驱动频率依次固定在30Hz、60Hz或100Hz下时在可变施加电压下测量的总透射率值,图9至11示出在将驱动频率依次固定在30Hz、60Hz或100Hz下时在可变施加电压下测量的雾度。如图中确定的,在制备例2的液晶装置中,根据在约100Hz下的施加电压实现了第一态至第三态。
结果总结并列在表2中。

Claims (16)
1.一种三态液晶装置,包括:
液晶层,其平行电导率为1.0×10-4μS/cm至5.0×10-2μS/cm,以及
其中所述液晶层配置为通过在相同频率下改变电压幅值在第一态、第二态和第三态间切换,
其中所述液晶层中离子化合物的比例为1重量%或更小,
其中所述液晶层的所述平行电导率的值是基于所述液晶层的面积和厚度各自为1cm2和1cm,并且所述平行电导率是在施加电压以使得所述液晶层的光轴平行于电场的方向时,在60Hz的测量频率和0.5V的测量电压下沿所述电场的方向测量的,
其中所述第一态的平行光透射率为50%或更大且雾度为5%或更小;
其中所述第二态的平行光透射率为35%或更小且雾度为5%或更小;
其中所述第三态的平行光透射率为10%或更小且雾度为80%或更大,以及
其中所述三态液晶装置满足以下式A和式B:

其中H1为所述三态液晶装置在60Hz的频率和60V的电压下的雾度,H2为所述三态液晶装置在60Hz的频率和10V的电压下的雾度,

其中T1为所述三态液晶装置在60Hz的频率和10V的电压下的平行光透射率,T2为所述三态液晶装置在60Hz的频率和60V的电压下的平行光透射率。
2.根据权利要求1所述的三态液晶装置,其中所述液晶层的平行电导率为1.0×10-4μS/cm至3.0×10-2μS/cm。
3.根据权利要求1所述的三态液晶装置,其中在所述液晶层中,所述平行电导率(PC)与垂直电导率(VC)之比(PC/VC)为0.2或更大。
4.根据权利要求1所述的三态液晶装置,其中在所述液晶层中,垂直电导率(VC)与平行电导率(PC)之比(VC/PC)为2.0或更小。
5.根据权利要求1所述的三态液晶装置,其中所述第一态的平行光透射率为55%或更大且雾度为3%或更小,其中所述第二态的平行光透射率为30%或更小且雾度为3%或更小,以及其中所述第三态的平行光透射率为5%或更小且雾度为90%或更大。
6.根据权利要求1所述的三态液晶装置,其中所述液晶层包含非反应型液晶化合物和反应型液晶化合物,其中所述反应型液晶化合物为液晶元。
7.根据权利要求6所述的三态液晶装置,其中相对于100重量份所述非反应型液晶化合物,所述液晶层包含1重量份至30重量份所述反应型液晶化合物。
8.根据权利要求1所述的三态液晶装置,其中所述液晶层不包含离子化合物。
9.根据权利要求1所述的三态液晶装置,其中所述液晶层在所述第一态下垂直取向。
10.根据权利要求1所述的三态液晶装置,其中所述液晶层在所述第二态下水平、垂直、扭曲或混合取向。
11.根据权利要求1所述的三态液晶装置,其中所述液晶层在所述第三态下为电流体动力学不稳定态。
12.一种制造包括液晶层的三态液晶装置的方法,所述方法包括:
将所述液晶层的平行电导率调节至1.0×10-4μS/cm至5.0×10-2μS/cm,以使得所述三态液晶装置通过在相同频率下改变电压幅值而在第一态、第二态和第三态间切换,
其中所述液晶层中离子化合物的比例为1重量%或更小,
其中所述液晶层的所述平行电导率的值是基于所述液晶层的面积和厚度各自为1cm2和1cm,并且所述平行电导率是在施加电压以使得所述液晶层的光轴平行于电场的方向时,在60Hz的测量频率和0.5V的测量电压下沿所述电场的方向测量的,
其中所述第一态的平行光透射率为50%或更大且雾度为5%或更小;
其中所述第二态的平行光透射率为35%或更小且雾度为5%或更小;
其中所述第三态的平行光透射率为10%或更小且雾度为80%或更大,以及
其中所述三态液晶装置满足以下式A和式B:

13.根据权利要求12所述的方法,其中所述液晶层形成为使得用于实现所述第一态或所述第二态而施加的电压V1与用于实现所述第三态而施加的电压V2满足下述条件1:

14.一种驱动包括平行电导率为1.0×10-4μS/cm至5.0×10-2μS/cm的液晶层的三态液晶装置的方法,包括:
调节施加的电压的幅值,使得所述三态液晶装置实现第一态、第二态和第三态间的切换,
其中所述液晶层中离子化合物的比例为1重量%或更小,
其中所述液晶层的所述平行电导率的值是基于所述液晶层的面积和厚度各自为1cm2和1cm,并且所述平行电导率是在施加电压以使得所述液晶层的光轴平行于电场的方向时,在60Hz的测量频率和0.5V的测量电压下沿所述电场的方向测量的,
其中所述第一态的平行光透射率为50%或更大且雾度为5%或更小;
其中所述第二态的平行光透射率为35%或更小且雾度为5%或更小;
其中所述第三态的平行光透射率为10%或更小且雾度为80%或更大,以及
其中所述三态液晶装置满足以下式A和式B:
