Abstract

技术领域
本发明涉及对显示尺寸的小型化有效的电光学装置以及电子设备。
背景技术
近年来,提出了各种使用了液晶元件、有机发光二极管(OrganicLight Emitting Diode,以下称为“OLED”)等电光学元件的电光学装置。无论什么样的电光学装置都共用以下的构成:在像素电路中包括开关元件与保持电容,当开关元件为导通(ON)状态时,以保持电容保持数据线的电位,并且电光学元件成为用于进行与该保持电位对应的灰度显示的状态。
作为开关元件,一般使用晶体管,但会产生场穿透(field through)(穿透(penetration),如果是N沟道型则也称为下拉(push down),如果是P沟道型则也称为上拉(push up)等),导致使保持电容所保持的电压发生变化。因此,作为像素电路内的开关元件,提出了使用互补型的传输门(transmission gate)的技术(例如参照专利文献1)。

然而,近年来,显示尺寸的小型化以及高精细化不断推进,使得像素电路的尺寸狭小化,难以确保足够电容的保持电容。在上述传输门中虽然能够抵消场穿透,但另一方面,泄漏(off-leakage)较大。因此,指出了如下所述的问题:即使通过传输门的接通,保持电容保持与数据线的电位对应的电压,该保持电压也会因泄漏而显著减少,给显示品质带来负面影响。
发明内容
本发明鉴于上述的情况而提出,其目的之一在于,抑制由保持电容保持的电压因场穿透以及泄漏的至少一方而引起变动。
为了实现上述目的,本发明涉及的电光学装置的特征在于,具有:多个像素电路,该多个像素电路与多个扫描线和多个数据线的各交叉对应设置;和多个反转扫描线,该多个反转扫描线被供给与供给到上述多个扫描线的各信号分别存在逻辑反转关系的信号;一个上述像素电路具有:第1晶体管,按照上述扫描线或者上述反转扫描线的任意一个被供给的信号,被控制为导通状态或者非导通状态;第1电容,一端与上述第1晶体管电连接,在该第1晶体管被控制为导通状态时,保持上述数据线的电位;第2电容,电连接在上述第1电容的一端与上述扫描线或者上述反转扫描线的任意另一个之间;和电光学元件,对应于上述第1电容所保持的保持电位受到控制。
根据本发明,例如当扫描线或者反转扫描线被供给的信号电平从一方向另一方变化,第1晶体管从导通状态变为非导通状态时,由于信号电平从另一方向一方的相反方向的变化经由第2电容传播,所以场穿透被抵消。其中,在将第1晶体管作为非互补型的情况下,泄漏的影响也变小。因此,能够抑制因场穿透、泄漏引起的保持电容的电压变动。
在本发明的优选方式中,上述第1晶体管是N沟道型或者P沟道型的任意一个,栅电极与上述扫描线或者上述反转扫描线的一个电连接,漏电极与上述数据线电连接,源电极与上述电容元件的一端电连接。
在本发明的优选的方式中,具有电连接在上述第1电容的一端与上述扫描线或者上述反转扫描线的任意一个之间的第3电容。根据该方式,只要根据上述第1晶体管的栅极-源极间的寄生电容的值与上述第3电容的电容值之和来决定上述第2电容的电容值即可,由于优选只要调整为相同程度即可,所以可以不使第2电容具有微小的电容。
另一方面,如果是不具有第3电容的构成,则只要根据上述第1晶体管的栅极-源极间的寄生电容的值来决定上述第2电容的电容值即可,优选只要调整为相同程度即可。在该构成中,由于可以不具有第3电容,所以像素电路的缩小化变得容易。
另外,作为本发明的优选方式,具有使与上述第1电容所保持的保持电位对应的电流流过上述电光学元件的第2晶体管。在具有第2晶体管的情况下,作为电光学元件,有机EL元件是适合的。另外,作为电光学元件,也可以是具有与保持电压对应的透过率(或者反射率)的液晶元件。由于液晶元件是电压驱动型,所以不需要使电流流出用的第2晶体管。
此外,本发明所涉及的电光学装置能够应用于各种电子设备。典型的情况是显示装置,作为电子设备,可列举出个人计算机、移动电话机。特别是由于本申请的发明在不能充分确保保持电容时,也能够抑制因场穿透、泄漏引起的电压变动,所以适合例如头戴显示器、投影仪那样形成缩小图像的显示装置。不过,本发明的电光学装置的用途并不限于显示装置。例如,也能够应用于用于通过光线的照射在感光鼓等图像担载体上形成潜像的曝光装置(光学头)。

图1是表示本发明的第1实施方式所涉及的电光学装置1的构成的框图。该电光学装置1通过多个像素电路110显示图像。
如该图所示,电光学装置1成为包括元件部100、扫描线驱动电路210以及数据线驱动电路220的构成。
其中,在元件部100中,m行的扫描线112a在图中沿行(X)方向设置,另一方面,n列的数据线114以沿列(Y)方向且与各扫描线112a相互保持电绝缘的方式设置。像素电路110与m行的扫描线112a和n列的数据线114的各交叉相对应地分别排列。因此,在本实施方式中,像素电路110以纵m行×横n列排列为矩阵状。其中,m、n都是自然数。
另外,以分别与m行的扫描线112a的各个成对的方式,反转扫描线112b分别沿X方向设置成与数据线114相互保持电绝缘。
各像素电路110上分别公共连接有供电线116、118。供电线116提供元件电源的高位侧的电位Vel,供电线118提供元件电源的低位侧的电位Vct。电位Vel、Vct由省略图示的电源电路生成。
此外,为了便于区别扫描线112a、反转扫描线112b以及像素电路110的行,有时在图1中从上到下按顺序称为1行、2行、3行、...、(m-1)、m行。同样,为了便于区别数据线114以及像素电路110的列,有时在图1中从左到右按顺序称为1列、2列、3列、...、(n-1)、n列。
电光学装置1中,在像素电路110排列为矩阵状的区域的周边配置有扫描线驱动电路210、数据线驱动电路220、逆变器(inverter)113。通过省略图示的控制器控制扫描线驱动电路210以及数据线驱动电路220的动作。另外,从上述控制器向数据线驱动电路220供给对各像素电路110的灰度(亮度)进行指定的灰度数据。
扫描线驱动电路210在各帧中依次排他地选择第1~第m行。详细而言,扫描线驱动电路210向第1、第2、第3、...、第(m-1)、第m行的扫描线112a分别供给扫描信号Gwr(1)、Gwr(2)、Gwr(3)、...、Gwr(m-1)、Gwr(m),依次排他地使各扫描信号成为H电平。其中,在本说明中,帧是指使电光学装置1显示1镜头(画面)量的图像所需的期间,如果垂直扫描频率为60Hz,则指其1个周期量的16.67毫秒的期间。
逆变器113分别设置于各行的扫描线112a。某行的逆变器113对被供给对应的行的扫描线112a的扫描信号进行逻辑反转,作为反转扫描信号供给反转扫描线112b。即、在扫描信号为高电平的电位时,反转扫描信号成为与其相比电位低的低电平电位,在扫描信号为低电平时,反转扫描信号成为与其相比电位高的高电平电位。为了方便起见,将分别被供给第1、第2、第3、...、第(m-1)、第m行的反转扫描线112b的反转扫描信号标记为/Gwr(1)、/Gwr(2)、/Gwr(3)、...、/Gwr(m-1)、/Gwr(m)。
数据线驱动电路220经由数据线114对位于由扫描线驱动电路210选择的行的画素电路110供给与对该像素电路110指定的灰度数据对应的电位的数据信号。为了方便起见,将分别供给第1、第2、第3、...、第(n-1)、第n列的数据线114的数据信号标记为Vd(1)、Vd(2)、Vd(3)、...、Vd(n-1)、Vd(n)。
接下来,参照图2,对像素电路110的等效电路进行说明。图2中表示了与第i行以及相对于该第i行在下侧相邻的第(i+1)行的扫描线112a、和第j列以及相对于该第j列在右侧相邻的第(j+1)列的数据线114的交叉对应的2×2合计4个像素量的构成。这里,i、(i+1)是一般表示像素电路110排列的行的符号,是1以上m以下的整数。同样,j、(j+1)是一般表示像素电路110排列的列的符号,是1以上n以下的整数。
如图2所示,各像素电路110具有N沟道型的晶体管130a、140、电容元件131、保持电容135、发光元件150。由于各像素电路110是相同的构成,所以以位于i行j列的像素电路为代表进行说明。在i行j列的像素电路110中,晶体管(第1晶体管)130a的栅电极与第i行的扫描线112a连接,另一方面,其漏电极与第j列的数据线114连接,其源电极分别与电容元件131的一端、保持电容135的一端、晶体管140的栅电极连接。
为了方便起见,在i行j列的像素电路110中,将晶体管130a的源电极、晶体管140的栅电极、电容元件131的一端以及保持电容的一端的连接点称为节点N(i,j)。
电容元件(第1电容元件)131的另一端与第i行的反转扫描线112b连接。因此,电容元件131成为电连接在节点N(i,j)与反转扫描线112b之间的构成。
另外,保持电容135的另一端分别与晶体管140的源电极以及发光元件150的阳极连接。晶体管(第2晶体管)140的漏电极与供电线116连接。
另一方面,发光元件150的阴极与供电线118连接。发光元件150是通过相互对置的阳极和阴极夹持了由有机EL材料构成的发光层的OLED,以与流过阳极和阴极之间的电流对应的亮度发光。
在图2中,Gwr(i)、Gwr(i+1)分别表示被供给第i、第(i+1)行的扫描线112a的扫描信号,/Gwr(i)、/Gwr(i+1)分别表示被供给第i、第(i+1)行的反转扫描线112b的反转扫描信号。Vd(j)、Vd(j+1)分别表示被供给第j、第(j+1)列的数据线114的数据信号。另外,将电容元件131的电容标记为C1,将晶体管130a的栅极-漏极间的寄生电容标记为Cg。
典型的情况下,元件部100中的晶体管130a、140是TFT(Thin FilmTran sistor:薄膜晶体管),在玻璃等的基板表面通过公共的硅工艺形成。因此,扫描线112a(反转扫描线112b)、数据线114等各种布线也可使用硅工艺来形成。例如扫描线112a以及反转扫描线112b通过对成为TFT的栅电极的导电层进行图案化而形成。
另外,例如电容元件131通过由对不同的导电层进行了图案化后的电极之间夹持绝缘膜而形成。该电极中的一个电极,可以使用晶体管140的栅电极。电容元件131的电容C1形成为与晶体管130a中的寄生电容Cg为相同程度。
此外,除了元件部100之外,扫描线驱动电路210、数据线驱动电路220、逆变器113也可以通过公共的硅工艺来形成。在通过这样的工艺形成各种电路时,存在从某电极向其他电极经由接触孔连接、或在布线路径的中途经由电阻等其他元件连接的情况。该情况下,虽然物理上并不直接连接,但在电气上可以说是连接状态。
另外,可以应用SOI(Silicon On Insulator)的技术,在蓝宝石、或石英、玻璃等绝缘性基板上形成单晶硅膜,成为在此嵌入各种元件的构成,也可以在硅基板形成各种元件。若使用硅基板,则由于作为开关元件,能够使用高速的场效应型晶体管,所以与TFT相比高速动作变得容易。
接下来,参照图3对电光学装置1的显示动作进行说明。图3是表示扫描信号以及数据信号的波形的一个例子的图。如该图所示,扫描信号Gwr(1)、Gwr(2)、Gwr(3)、...、Gwr(m-1)、Gwr(m)通过扫描线驱动电路210在1帧内按每个水平扫描期间(H)依次排他地成为H电平。这些扫描信号分别被逆变器113逻辑反转而成为反转扫描信号。因此,如该图所示,反转扫描信号/Gwr(1)、/Gwr(2)、/Gwr(3)、...、/Gwr(m-1)、/Gwr(m)按每个水平扫描期间(H)依次排他地成为L电平。
这里,当第i行的扫描线112a被选择、扫描信号Gwr(i)变成H电平时,由数据线驱动电路220向第j列的数据线114供给与i行j列的像素电路110的灰度数据对应的电位的数据信号Vd(j)。
若扫描信号Gwr(i)变为H电平,则由于在i行j列的像素电路110中晶体管130a导通,所以成为节点N(i,j)与数据线114电连接的状态。因此,节点N(i,j)的电位在图3中如上箭头所示那样,变为数据信号Vd(j)的电位。此时,晶体管140使与节点N(i,j)的电位对应的电流流过发光元件150,并且,保持电容135保持此时的晶体管140中的栅极-源极间的电压。
当第i行的扫描线112a的选择结束、扫描信号Gwr(i)变成L电平时,晶体管130a截止。此时,在节点N(i,j)中,由于扫描信号Gwr(i)从H电平变成L电平时的变化经由寄生电容Cg传播而产生场穿透,使至此保持的数据信号Vd(j)的电位降低。但是,由于在节点N(i,j)中,反转扫描信号/Gwr(i)从L电平变成H电平时的反方向的变化经由电容元件131传播,所以由晶体管130a产生的场穿透被抵消。
因此,即使扫描信号Gwr(i)从H电平向L电平变化,结果上节点N(i,i)的电位也几乎不变动。
即使晶体管130a从导通切换到截止,该导通时的晶体管140的栅极-源极间的电压也由保持电容135保持。因此,即使晶体管130a截止,晶体管140也使与由保持电容135保持的保持电压对应的电流持续流过发光元件150,直至下次再次选择第i行的扫描线112a为止。因此,i行j列的像素电路110中的发光元件150以与第i行时被选择的数据信号Vd(j)的电位对应的亮度、即以与i行j列的灰度数据对应的亮度,在相当于1帧的期间发光。
实际上,节点N(i,j)的电位如该图所示,因晶体管130a的泄漏随时间减少,但泄漏的影响在本实施方式能够忽略。
此外,在第i行中,即便在j列以外的像素电路110中也以与被供给对应的数据线114的数据信号的电位对应的亮度发光。这里,利用与第i行的扫描线112a对应的像素电路110进行说明,但扫描线112a以第1、第2、第3、...第(m-1)、第m行这样的顺序被选择,结果各个像素电路110分别以与灰度数据对应的亮度发光。这样的动作在各帧中重复进行。另外,在图3中,为了方便起见,与扫描信号(反转扫描信号)的电位刻度相比,放大了数据信号、节点N(i,j)的电位刻度(在图10、图12也同样)。
这里,针对本实施方式的优势列举2个比较例进行说明。图9是表示比较例(之1)所涉及的像素电路的等效电路的图,图10是表示该比较例的显示动作的图。
如图9所示,在比较例(之1)中,采用了不具有电容元件131的构成。因此,如图10所示,由于在节点N(i,j),扫描信号Gwr(i)的向L电平的变化经由寄生电容Cg传播,所以产生场穿透。因此,在比较例(之1)中,发光元件150不能够以与选择时的数据信号Vd(j)的电位对应的亮度发光。
图11是表示比较例(之2)所涉及的像素电路的等效电路的图,图12是表示该比较例的显示动作的图。
如图11所示,在比较例(之2)中,采用了不具有电容元件131,但作为开关元件使用了将N沟道型的晶体管130a与P沟道型的晶体管130b互补地组合后的传输门的构成。
如图12所示,在该比较例(之2)中,当扫描信号Gwr(i)从H电平变成L电平、反转扫描信号/Gwr(i)从L电平变成H电平时,晶体管130a的下拉与晶体管130b的上拉相互抵消。因此,节点N(i,j)的电位在晶体管130a、130b截止的瞬间时几乎不变动。
但是,P沟道型的晶体管130b中的泄漏一般比N沟道型的晶体管130a中的泄漏大,并且,处于将2个晶体管130a、130b并联连接的状态。因此,在比较例(之2)中,在传输门截止的期间,节点N(i,j)的电位与本实施方式比较显著降低。因此,在比较例(之2)中,发光元件150不能以与选择时的数据信号Vd(j)的电位对应的亮度稳定地持续发光。
相对于比较例(之1)以及比较例(之2),根据本实施方式,由于在晶体管130a截止的瞬间能够抵消场穿透,并且,泄漏也小,所以发光元件150能够以与选择时的数据信号Vd(j)的电位对应的亮度稳定地持续发光。
<第2实施方式>
接下来,对本发明的第2实施方式进行说明。图4是表示第2实施方式所涉及的电光学装置的像素电路中的等效电路的图。
在图4所示的像素电路中,与图2所示的第1实施方式比较,电容元件(第2电容元件)132成为电连接在节点N(i,j)与扫描线112a之间的构成。在第2实施方式中,当将电容元件132的电容标记为C2时,电容元件131的电容C1被调整为电容元件132的电容C2与晶体管130a的寄生电容Cg之和。
由于电容Cg是晶体管130a的寄生电容,所以实际上很微小。因此,也考虑到难以如第1实施方式那样,高精度形成与微小电容Cg成为相同程度的电容元件131的情况。
在第2实施方式中,即使电容Cg很微小,如果电容C1以比电容C2稍大的方式形成,则电容C1能够与电容C2和寄生电容Cg之和几乎相等。
换言之,即使在成为Cg<<C1、C2那样的情况下,
如果以C1≈C2(C2<C1)方式形成电容元件131、132,
则能够使C1=C2+Cg。
例如,即使在相对于Cg,以大的电容形成电容元件131、132的情况下,
如果C1=10×Cg,C2=9×Cg,
则能够使C1=C2+Cg。
根据该第2实施方式,即使在不能单独形成与寄生电容相同程度的微小电容的情况下,也容易抵消场穿透。
不过,在第2实施方式中,由于不仅需要形成电容元件131,还需要形成电容元件132,所以与第1实施方式比较,在像素电路110的规模缩小化这一方面稍微变得不利。换言之,可以说第1实施方式中,在像素电路110的规模缩小化这一方面,与第2实施方式比较稍微有利。
<应用例/变形例>
本发明并不限于上述的实施方式,还能够进行如下的应用/变形。
例如,在第1实施方式、第2实施方式中,作为开关元件使用了N沟道型的晶体管130a,但也可以如图5所示,使用P沟道型的晶体管130b。
此时,由于P沟道型的晶体管130b的栅电极与反转扫描线112b连接,所以电容元件131成为电连接在节点N(i,j)与扫描线112a之间的构成。
此外,若使用P沟道型的晶体管130b作为开关元件,则与N沟道型的晶体管130a比较,泄漏较大,但如果与并联连接的传输门比较,泄漏较小。
另外,虽未特别图示,但在作为开关元件使用了P沟道型的晶体管130b的构成中,也可以将电容元件132电连接在节点N(i,j)与反转扫描线112b之间,如第2实施方式那样,使电容C1与电容C2和寄生电容Cg之和几乎相等。
作为电光学元件,并不限于发光元件,也可以是以电极夹持液晶层的液晶元件。在使用液晶元件的情况下,在像素电路110中成为由与节点N(i,j)连接的像素电极和公共电极夹持液晶层的构成。因此,不需要晶体管140、元件电源的供电线116、118。另外,液晶元件具有与节点N(i,j)的电位对应的透过率或者反射率。此外,在该构成中,液晶元件其本身成为保持电容,或者该液晶元件与另外附加的辅助电容的并联连接成为保持电容。
<电子设备>
接下来,对应用了本发明所涉及的电光学装置的几个电子设备进行说明。
图6是表示采用了上述的实施方式所涉及的电光学装置1作为显示装置的个人计算机的外观的图。个人计算机2000具备作为显示装置的电光学装置1和主体部2010。在主体部2010上设置有电源开关2001以及键盘2002。
在电光学装置1中,当发光元件150使用了OLED时,能够显示视野角宽阔、容易看见的画面。
图7是表示采用了实施方式所涉及的电光学装置1作为显示装置的移动电话机的外观的图。移动电话机3000除了多个操作按钮3001和方向键3002等之外,还具备听筒3003、话筒3004、以及上述的电光学装置1。通过操作方向键3002,使电光学装置1所显示的画面滚动。
图8是表示采用了实施方式所涉及的电光学装置1作为显示装置的便携信息终端(PDA:Personal Digital Assistants)的外观的图。便携信息终端4000除了多个操作按钮4001、方向键4002等之外,还具备上述的电光学装置1。在别写信息终端4000中,通过规定的操作,通信簿、日程表等的各种信息被显示于电光学装置1,并且,所显示的信息对应于方向键4002的操作而滚动。
此外,作为应用了本发明所涉及的电光学装置的电子设备,除了图6至图8所示的例子之外,还可列举出数码静态照相机、头戴显示器,电视、摄像机、车辆导航装置、寻呼机、电子记事本、电子纸、计算器、文字处理机、工作站、可视电话、POS终端、打印机、扫描仪、复印机、录像机、具备触摸面板的设备等。
符号说明:1...电光学装置,100...元件部,110...像素电路,112a...扫描线,112b...反转扫描线,113...逆变器,114...数据线驱动电路,116、118...供电线,130a...晶体管(第1晶体管),131...电容元件(第1电容元件),132...电容元件(第2电容元件),140...晶体管(驱动晶体管),150...发光元件,2000...个人计算机,3000...移动电话机,4000...便携信息终端。
Claims (7)
1.一种电光学装置,其特征在于,具有:
多个像素电路,该多个像素电路与多个扫描线和多个数据线的各交叉对应设置;以及
多个反转扫描线,该多个反转扫描线被供给与所述多个扫描线被供给的各信号分别存在逻辑反转的关系的信号;
一个所述像素电路具有:
第1晶体管,按照所述扫描线或者所述反转扫描线的任意一个被供给的信号,被控制为导通状态或者非导通状态;
第1电容,一端与所述第1晶体管电连接,在该第1晶体管被控制为导通状态时,保持所述数据线的电位;
第2电容,电连接在所述第1电容的一端与所述扫描线或者所述反转扫描线的任意另一个之间;和
电光学元件,对应于所述第1电容所保持的保持电位而受到控制。
2.根据权利要求1所述的电光学装置,其特征在于,
所述第1晶体管是N沟道型或者P沟道型的任意一个,
栅电极与所述扫描线或者所述反转扫描线的一个电连接,
漏电极与所述数据线电连接,
源电极与所述电容元件的一端电连接。
3.根据权利要求2所述的电光学装置,其特征在于,
具有第3电容,该第3电容电连接在所述第1电容的一端与所述扫描线或者所述反转扫描线的任意一个之间。
4.根据权利要求3所述的电光学装置,其特征在于,
所述第2电容的电容值根据所述第1晶体管中的栅极-源极间的寄生电容值与所述第3电容的电容值之和来决定。
5.根据权利要求2所述的电光学装置,其特征在于,
所述第2电容的电容值根据所述第1晶体管中的栅极-源极间的寄生电容值来决定。
6.根据权利要求1~5中任意一项所述的电光学装置,其特征在于,
具有第2晶体管,该第2晶体管使与所述第1电容所保持的保持电位对应的电流流过所述电光学元件。
7.一种电子设备,其特征在于,具有:
权利要求1~6中任意一项所述的电光学装置。
