Description

具有整体成型的箍圈对准结构的光纤适配器

技术领域

背景技术
光纤在世界范围内使通信发生巨大变化。光纤通常是设计来运载能聚合起来的光线的细玻璃线。随着光纤使用的增多,能将光纤电缆与各种源极连接和断开逐渐变得重要。两根光纤电缆能通过使用公知的连接器和适配器光学地结合以使得它们彼此相通信,从而让每根光纤电缆与另一个相通信。连接器端接至每根电缆的端部并且然后插塞入适配器。适配器一般包括在每端处设计来接收连接器的开口。用于保持两个SC型匹配连接器的示例性适配器在美国专利No.5,317,663中描述。希望对光纤适配器的设计和制造进行改进。
发明内容
本发明总体上涉及构造成接收具有箍圈的光纤连接器的光纤适配器,其中适配器的箍圈对准结构与适配器主体整体地成型为一个单体。

仍然参照图1-6,光纤适配器10包括主体12,主体12包括由顶侧壁16、底侧壁18、右侧壁20和左侧壁22限定的轴向腔室14。主体12的轴向腔室14在第一开口24和第二开口26之间延伸。每个开口24、26的尺寸设计为接收光纤连接器100。
由于这里所述适配器的实施例构造为与SC型连接器一起使用,主体12和轴向腔室14的尺寸和构造被特别地设计为容纳SC型连接器。
现在参照图1-3,光纤适配器10的主体12包括在其顶侧处的第一开口28和在其底侧处的第二开口30。如下将更详细描述的,第一和第二开口28、30允许光纤适配器的主体12和定位于主体12内的内部箍圈对准结构31(参见图1A)的至少一部分被注射成型为单体。第一和第二开口28、30在光纤适配器10已经一体地成型/模制之后由一对盖板32覆盖。盖板32可以超声焊接至适配器10的主体12。
优选地,第一开口28和第二开口30具有相同的构造以使得用于第一开口28和第二开口30的盖板32也具有相同的尺寸和形状。这样,用于适配器10的顶侧和底侧的盖板32能使用相同的模具/工具生产,降低制造成本。
仍然参照图1-3,在底侧壁18中具有键槽34,其尺寸和形状设计为接收图7所示的下面将要描述的SC型光纤连接器100的相应键102。
在主体12的外部上具有突起36、38。突起36定位于右侧壁20上并且突起38定位于左侧壁22上。突起36、38可工作用于将适配器10支撑于或抵靠于平状表面比如腔壁的平状表面上。主体12还包括在右侧壁20和左侧壁22的每个上的柔性悬臂40。柔性悬臂40限定向外突出的突起42,其构造为与突起36、38协作以抵靠腔壁捕获光纤适配器10。悬臂40的突起42包括斜面44以便于光纤适配器10插入由腔壁结构限定的孔隙。斜面44引起柔性悬臂40在适配器10移动穿过腔壁的孔隙时向内挠曲。
尽管在优选实施例中适配器10包括一体地模制/成型的柔性悬臂40,但是如果希望,在其他可选实施例中,也可使用其他类型的紧固件,比如美国专利No.5,317,663所示和所述的柔性夹具。凹陷可设置于主体12和盖板32上以允许使用可选的紧固件比如柔性夹具。
而且,在适配器的其他实施例中,突起可更长和包括紧固件开口。这样,螺钉或类似紧固件可用来将光纤适配器连接至腔壁结构。
这里所述的附接结构是非限制性的示例并且其他可移除的或不可移除的紧固结构比如卡扣紧固件、铆钉等可用来将适配器附接至腔壁结构。
现在参照图5和6,如上所述,光纤适配器主体12和适配器10的内部箍圈对准特征31的至少一部分注射成型为单件,并且盖板32用来在适配器10已经成型之后覆盖第一和第二开口28、30。在图5和6中,SC型适配器10的内部箍圈对准部件31用横截视图示出。而且,尽管内部箍圈对准特征31与光纤适配器10的主体12一体地成型/模制,图1A示出了图1的光纤适配器的内部箍圈对准特征,为了易于描述和清楚起见其与光纤适配器的主体分离。

仍然参照图1A、5和6,闩锁钩54构造为与SC型连接器100的壳体106协作并且用来可释放地将连接器100闩锁至适配器10,如下将更详细描述的。
参照图4-6,在主体12的内部上具有脊部62,脊部62沿着轴向腔室14的内角部在轴向腔室14内纵向地延伸。脊部62与光纤连接器壳体106的外表面协作以将连接器100接收于轴向腔室14内。在某些实施例中,脊部62可包括倾斜的进入表面以便于连接器插入适配器腔室14内。
适配器10的主体12和套筒安装件50可通过注射成型工艺由聚合物构造。预期其他材料和其他成型工艺也可用于光纤适配器10的构造。
图7示出了可与图1-6所示光纤适配器10一起使用的SC型光纤连接器100。连接器100包括由箍圈104保持于其中的光纤108。光纤的端部定位于箍圈104的接触面110上。箍圈104保持于连接器100的壳体106内。壳体106包括第一内部分112和可轴向滑动的外部分114。壳体106限定在其相对侧面上的两个槽116以及定位于与包含槽116的侧面垂直的侧面上的键102。如前所述,键102构造成啮合光纤适配器主体12的键槽34以穿过适配器10的第一开28正确地定位连接器100。在正确地定位于适配器10的轴向腔室14内时,箍圈104被接收在适配器10的套筒安装件50内侧的箍圈套筒52内。
如本领域已知的,当第一连接器100完全插入适配器10时,适配器的套筒安装件50的柔性闩锁钩54啮合连接器壳体106的外部分114中的槽116以将连接器100可释放地保持于适配器10的轴向腔室14内。在第二连接器100插入适配器10的相对侧时,通过箍圈套筒52内的箍圈104的抵接接触面110,在第一连接器100的光纤和第二连接器100的光纤之间形成光学连接。
在移除一个光纤连接器100时,连接器壳体106的可滑动外部分114相对于连接器壳体106的第一内部分112轴向地滑动远离相对连接器,直到适配器10的柔性闩锁钩54从限定于连接器100的壳体106上的槽116释放,如本领域已知的。

Claims (20)

13.一种制造用于将两个光纤连接器同轴对准地互连的光纤适配器的方法,每个连接器包括保持光纤端部的大致圆柱形箍圈,其中该适配器包括主体,主体包括由顶侧壁、底侧壁、右侧壁和左侧壁限定的轴向腔室,该轴向腔室在限定于主体的第一端处的第一开口和限定于主体的第二端处的第二开口之间延伸,第一端构造为通过第一开口接收第一光纤连接器并且第二端构造为通过第二开口接收第二光纤连接器用以与第一光纤连接器相配合,其中该适配器还包括箍圈对准结构,该箍圈对准结构包括套筒安装件和箍圈套筒,套筒安装件限定第一端、第二端和中心部分,其中套筒安装件的第一端朝着主体的第一端定位并且套筒安装件的第二端朝着主体的第二端定位,套筒安装件包括轴向孔径以及至少一个从套筒安装件的中心部分朝着主体的第一端延伸的闩锁钩和至少一个从套筒安装件的中心部分朝着主体的第二端延伸的闩锁钩,闩锁钩构造成朝向和远离轴向孔径横向地挠曲以可释放地将第一和第二光纤连接器闩锁至光纤适配器,该方法包括:
-将光纤适配器的主体和套筒安装件成型为一体结构;
-从套筒安装件的第一端和第二端的其中之一将箍圈套筒插入套筒安装件的轴向孔径;
-在将光纤适配器的主体和套筒安装件成型为一体结构之后布置盖板来覆盖由光纤适配器的顶侧壁和底侧壁限定的开口;以及
-将盖板焊接至主体。
14.根据权利要求13的方法,其中主体和套筒安装件由聚合物成型而成。
15.根据权利要求13的方法,其中箍圈套筒在主体和套筒安装件已经一体地成型之后插入轴向孔径内。
16.根据权利要求13的方法,其中由顶侧壁限定的开口具有与由底侧壁限定的开口相同的构造。
17.根据权利要求13的方法,其中套筒安装件包括从套筒安装件的中心部分朝着主体的第一端延伸的两个闩锁钩以及从套筒安装件的中心部分朝着主体的第二端延伸的两个闩锁钩,其中,朝着主体的第一端延伸的闩锁钩定位于轴向孔径的相对侧上且构造成朝向和远离彼此地挠曲以可释放地将第一光纤连接器闩锁至光纤适配器,并且朝着主体的第二端延伸的闩锁钩定位于轴向孔径的相对侧上并且构造成朝向和远离彼此地挠曲以可释放地将第二光纤连接器闩锁至光纤适配器。
18.根据权利要求13的方法,其中适配器包括在右侧壁和左侧壁的每个上的向外突出的安装突起。
19.根据权利要求18的方法,其中适配器包括在右侧壁和左侧壁的每个上的一体成型的柔性悬臂,柔性悬臂包括构造成与安装突起协作的向外延伸部分以抵靠电信设备捕获主体,其中,所述悬臂构造为在所述主体通过由所述电信设备限定的开口插入时向内横向地挠曲。
20.一种用于将两个光纤连接器同轴对准地互连的光纤适配器,每个连接器包括保持光纤端部的大致圆柱形箍圈,该适配器包括:
主体,其包括由顶侧壁、底侧壁、右侧壁和左侧壁限定的轴向腔室,该轴向腔室在限定于主体的第一端处的第一开口和限定于主体的第二端处的第二开口之间延伸,所述第一端构造为通过第一开口接收第一光纤连接器并且所述第二端构造为通过第二开口接收第二光纤连接器用以与第一光纤连接器相配合;
定位于所述轴向腔室内的箍圈对准结构,该箍圈对准结构包括限定轴向孔径的套筒安装件,该轴向孔径构造成在连接器插入适配器时接收第一和第二光纤连接器的箍圈并将它们同轴地对准,其中光纤适配器的套筒安装件和主体一体地成型为单件。
