共挤多层板以及用它制作的坚韧的套筒标签
本发明涉及共挤多层板和用它制作的包在容器外的坚韧的套筒标签。
已知层压(共挤涂敷的)板制作容器的套筒标签之工艺,有James karabedian的美国专利397900和4069934号,Amberg等人的美国专利3760968号,以上这些专利都已转让给Owens-Illinois公司了。Tsubone等人的美国专利4463861号也公开了一种层压的(共挤双层的)板和一种可包在容器外的热收缩套筒标签。层压板套筒标签是由含苯乙烯的重量多于50%的聚苯乙烯密实薄膜以及含苯乙烯重量多于50%且酌加橡胶重量不超过30%的聚苯乙烯泡沫薄膜所组成。
这种含有聚苯乙烯层的已有技术的共挤多层套筒标签,其坚韧度往往不能符合要求。
本发明的目的在于提供一种容器用的坚韧的、有吸引力的共挤多层板套筒标签,例如,盛含碳酸气饮料的定向塑料(oriented plastic)容器。
本发明的目的在于提供一种共挤多层板和用它制作的包装容器的套筒标签,该板由紧贴于容器的聚苯乙烯泡沫层和作装饰用的密实外表层所组成。挤出共混物,形成密实外表层,其共混物按重量计含有线型结构低密度聚乙烯约50-70份,丁苯嵌段共聚物约20-60份,聚苯乙烯约0-10份,而嵌段共聚物的量要足以使泡沫层和外表层在界面处均匀粘合,粘合力足以防止层间过早开裂或撕断,但粘合力应尽量小,以使标签的整体结构具有最大的韧度。

本领域中尚未认识到共挤坚韧外表层/脆性泡沫层的结构,一定不能粘结得太牢固,否则外表层将会丧失坚韧性之优点。但事实上又必须具有一定程度的粘接强度。本发明提供的方法,可使坚韧的外表层和脆性的泡沫层之间粘合均衡,而标签的整体结构具有最大的坚韧度。
当外表层与泡沫层之间的结合剪切强度,尽可能趋于一致,而低于外表层的屈服强度时,坚韧度为最大。
本发明提供坚韧的、有吸引力的、能密封的共挤多层板,宜于制作密合、热缩时不产生皱纹的包装容器用套筒标签。容器包括那些当装满饮料时会膨胀的定向塑料板,坚韧的套筒标签极易密封,例如,采用热融粘结、超声波,热空气或热封等高速粘封方法,即可粘合成牢固的边缝。
本发明提供的共挤多层板宜于制作容器的套筒标签,板由紧贴容器的聚苯乙烯泡沫层和装饰用的密实外表层所组成。共挤密实外表层的混合配料,按重量计含有线型低密度聚乙烯50~70份,丁苯嵌段共聚物20~60份,聚苯乙烯0~10份,嵌段聚合物的量足以使泡沫层和外表层在界面处粘合均衡,粘合力足以防止层间过早开裂或撕断,粘合力还要相当小,使标签整体结构具有最大的坚韧度。较好的混合配料,按重量计,含聚乙烯约50~55%,丁苯嵌段共聚物约45~50份。
嵌段共聚物为苯乙烯和丁二烯的共聚物,如可用负离子聚合法制备。该共聚物为热塑性橡胶,在室温时具有硫化高弹体的性能,苯乙烯的嵌段或硬链长度的作用类似于交联作用,可防止聚丁二烯的嵌段段产生蠕变。在高温时则具有一般的塑料流动。
共聚物中的丁二烯成分可以被异戊二烯或乙烯丁烯所取代。例如从Shell化学制品公司可得到KRATON 1102和1107牌号的橡胶材料。
从AKron,Ohio的Firestone公司可提供Stereon 840A或其它Stereon牌的高弹体,是优选的丁苯嵌段共聚物的高弹体,推荐使用含有约35~55%(以重量计)结合苯乙烯并且其数均分子量为50000~100000的嵌段共聚物。Stereon840A手册中列有两种嵌段共聚物,其结合苯乙烯的含量为53和43%。而其数均分子量为60000~80000。
从图中可以看到,容器8有瓶体部分9和底杆9a,图2中的部分瓶体上,绕有标签10。
从图2及图3的实例中可以看到,标签有密实聚合物的外层15和泡沫层20,泡沫层的内表面为22,前导边为25,尾边为27。在内表面上靠近前导边处有有限面积的条形面65,在靠近尾边处有有限面积的条形面66。这些有限面积是具有粘性的条形面,经热融粘合,能使包装在容器上的套筒标签粘结成封闭的边缝,也有其它制作的方法,先在卷筒或芯轴上,制成套筒标签,将套筒标签从卷筒上退下,包覆在容器上,然后用热缩法使标签牢固地贴合在容器的表面上。这种情况下,筒形标签的边缝,可以用热空气或热封粘结。
已知共挤多层板有James E Heider公开的美国专利4244900号。热缩多层板制作热缩套筒标签,可用共挤出法得到,同时挤出泡沫层(例如,聚苯乙烯泡沫薄膜)和非泡沫的密实外表层(例如,聚苯乙烯薄膜)。层压材料的发泡薄膜通常比外表面薄膜冷却地更快,日后用作容器热缩套筒标签时,起泡层比外表层收缩得更多。
加热时外表层及泡沫层取向(oriented)且收缩到容器上,加热温度需高于泡沫材料的软化点(tg),例如,约180°或200°F到230或250°F或更高。高生产率生产热缩套筒形标签时,常用人们已知的红外线热源进行加热。将热缩的塑料套筒标签施用到容器上的方法和设备,有Ashcroft的美国专利3959065号和Amberg等人的美国专利3767496号,这些已转让给Owens-Illinois公司。
根据本发明,我们认为坚韧的外表层15和脆性的泡沫层20,一定不能结合得太牢,否则将丧失外表面的坚韧度。从图4放大的断面图中可以看到,外表层与泡沫层的结合剪切强度低于外表层的屈服强度,使标签的整体结构获得最大的坚韧度。当按图4所示箭头方向,对标签施加拉力时,泡沫层20在70处产生断裂,并从与外表面相邻的表面75处被拉离。外表面层能抗拒断裂,在80处稍有伸长和颈缩,但不会被拉断,除非拉力超过外表面层的弹性极限。
若不受理论的限制,假设标签的结构在接合界面及其附近存在着一些苯乙烯类组合群(sites)。这是些极小的苯乙烯群体,在外表面层中并且通常要在泡沫层中杂乱分布,沿着界面在组合体中形成相容结结合域,尤其在使用溶剂封接边缝时。很明显,在外表面层和泡沫层中均混合有苯乙烯的分子,在构造中,组合群愈多,外表面与泡沫层的结合愈牢固。因此为取得更加符合要求的有限度的粘接强度苯乙烯组合群少时,结合强度就低。
聚苯乙烯是制作泡沫层的极好的聚合物。聚苯乙烯可以是结晶的(一般目的)聚苯乙烯,或是抗冲击(改性橡胶)聚苯乙烯。适用的聚苯乙烯泡沫一般为低密度泡沫,例如,每立方英尺重3或4到14到15英磅,或中等至高密度泡沫,每立方英尺重15到45或50英磅。
其它可部分采用或全部采用的聚苯乙烯聚合物,应用最多的为苯乙烯系聚合物,例如苯乙烯和可共聚物乙烯基单体的共聚物,可共聚的烯基单体包括醋酸乙烯、氯乙烯,1,1-二氯乙烯以及丙烯酸和丙烯酸酯类单体,例如甲基丙烯酸甲酯和甲基丙烯酸乙酯。在苯乙烯的聚合物中,苯乙烯的含量最好至少约有40~50%,按重量计算,苯乙烯含量在约60~75%(按重量计算)时效果最好。
泡沫层厚度的变化范围为1或2密尔(1密尔等于千分之一英寸)到15或20密尔,最佳选用的厚度为8~10密尔。
最好的标签是由一坚固的聚合物外表面层和一泡沫层组成的复合挤出结构。多层标签的坚固外表面层的厚度约为1/4或1/2到5密尔,泡沫层的厚度约为3~20密尔,最好选用4-12密尔。
能取得良好效果的标签的整体构造为:其外表层厚2密尔,外表层成分:线型低密聚乙烯含量为50%,丁苯嵌段共聚物含量为50%,其所含的苯乙烯的重量为43%,数均分子量为80,000,外表层与约5密尔厚的共挤聚苯乙烯泡沫层相结合。改用含量70%低密度聚乙烯和含量30%共聚物的上述标签也能取得良好效果。

Claims (8)

1、共挤多层板(coextruded multilayer sheet),适宜于制作容器用的套筒标签,其特征在于该板包括紧贴于容器的聚苯乙烯泡沫层和作装饰用的密实外表层,挤出密实外表层的混合配料含有线型低密度聚乙烯50~70份(重量),丁苯嵌段共聚物20~60份(重量),以及聚苯乙烯0~10份(重量),而其中的嵌段共聚物中含35~55%(重量)的结合苯乙烯,嵌段共聚物的量足以使泡沫层和外表层在交接表面处粘结均衡,粘合力的大小足以防止层次间过早开裂或撕断,但粘合力必须足够小,以便标签具有最大的韧度。
2、按照权利要求1所述的板,其中混合配料是:线型低密度聚乙烯50~70份,嵌段共聚物30~50份。
3、按照权利要求1的板,其中共聚物中含有43~53%(重量)的结合苯乙烯,其数均分子量为50,000~100,000。
4、容器和制作容器套筒标签用的共挤多层板,该板由紧贴于容器的聚苯乙烯泡沫层和密实外表层所组成,挤出密实外表层的混合配料含有线型低密度聚乙烯50~70份(重量),丁苯嵌段共聚物20~60份(重量),以及聚苯乙烯0~10份(重量),而其中的嵌段共聚物中含35~55%(重量)的结合苯乙烯,嵌段共聚物的量应足以使泡沫层和外表层在交接界面处粘结均衡,粘合力的大小足以防止层间过早开裂或撕断,但粘合力还必须足够小,以便增大标签结构的坚韧度。
5、按照权利要求4的容器和板,其中板是符合权利要求1的板,其混合配料含有50~70份线型低密度聚乙烯,含有嵌段聚合物30~50份。
6、按照权利要求4的容器和板,其中容器为定向塑料容器(anoriented plastic container)。
7、按照权利要求4的容器和板,其中容器为存装充碳酸气饮料的取向聚对苯二甲酸乙酯。
8、按照权利要求4的容器和板,其中容器为玻璃容器。
