internal combustion engine. The present invention relates to an engine with internal combustion with injection of liquid fuel, of the type in which the piston carries an extension which can be engaged in an opening making communi quer the cylinder with a combustion chamber.
According to the present invention, the extension of the piston is crossed by at least one bypass duct which opens out, on the one hand, laterally and, on the other hand, in the end face of said extension and through which a small part of the air compressed by the piston can pass, when said extension is engaged in the aforementioned opening.
The appended drawing represents, by by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention, established to operate at two times, as well as a retail variant.
Fig. 1 is a section of the upper part of the cylinder and the piston of said embodiment; Fig. 52) shows the aforementioned detail variant. The piston 1 of the engine shown in in fig. 1 is indicated in solid lines in the position it occupies at the upper part (cylinder 2, a little before reaching neutral, at the end of the compression stroke, and in phantom, at this very neutral point.
At the bottom of the stroke of the piston 1, the cylinder 2, through orifices not shown, for the scavenging air intake, which the piston controls, has received its air charge, which s 'is found compressed by the return of the piston. When the piston arrives in the position shown in solid lines, that is to say when the terminal edge 3 of the extension or shutter-deflector 4 provided on the piston, comes to the level of the edge 5 of the, constricted winulary part 6,
the compressed air trapped in the chamber 7 temporarily formed between the piston and the bottom of the cylinder passes violently into the combustion chamber 8 through the annular space 9 between parts 4 and 6 and swirls following the arrows 10. While this transfer s The father, the fuel injector-atomizer 11. projects, according to the arrows 12, the liquid fuel in equal quantities around its axis.
This fuel is seized by the jet of air 13 in the form of an annular column which comes from bursting from the annular space 9 and trailed in the airflow indicated by the arrows 10. The more volatile parts immediately vaporize and mix with air.
The still liquid parts are thrown by centrifugal force against the walls of the chamber 8 which are very hot (reddish), being devoid of water circulation; they vaporize there in their turn and the gases generated enter the gas circulation indicated by the arrows 10. Then, under the combined effect of the heat of the compression and that of the walls, ignition takes place and practically isopleric combustion takes place. The cycle ends according to the known mode.
Experience has shown the following disadvantage in this operation - In practice, it is likely that the movement of fair transfer of from the part 7 of the cylinder into the capacity 20 of the combustion chamber is not done continuously, but, perhaps, with slight pulsations (or return movements) due to a anti-seeped partial combustion of the fuel from the start of injection.
On the other hand, the hatched part in, fig. I., included inside the interior of the column (Fair 13 constitutes a zone of relative calm. It It therefore seems possible that fuel already, injected and not burned is accidentally brought back into this zone in too great a quantity to y find its oxidizer and moreover not in good condition y burn well (still liquid particles).
To remedy this inconvenience, the shutter extension 4 of the piston 1 is established as shown in fig. 1. and comprises several converging conduits there, which cross it and open, on the one hand, laterally to the extension 4 and, on the other hand, in its extreme face , thus constituting a slight diversion of the main air flow flowing through the annular space 9. This slight diversion plays a sweeping role by bringing the fuel back into the main air circulation misguided,
the air jet supplied by the conduits 15 not however being too violent to be able to act on the layer of fuel injected by the injector-sprayer Il. It It goes without saying that these bypass conduits can affect various forms.
We can, for example, give them the form shown in in fig. 2 or other form, capable of attenuating the speed of the air at the outlet of the ducts. A violent jet of air on the injector-sprayer would indeed result in projecting the fuel on the wall in 16, part ± roïde (water circulation 17), </ B> which would be contrary to the aim we are proposing.
It can be seen that, in the two examples indicated, the speed of the bypass air is damped, in the case of FIG. 1 by the convergence of the conduits 15 towards the center of the end face of the extension 4, and in the case of fig. 52) by the combination of the ducts 15a-làb with a small expansion chamber 18 discharging the air through the outlet parts 15b of the conduits following to this room and which have. a section larger than the inlet portions 15a of the conduits.
