Serrure t1 secret.

La serrure du cadenas représenté ayant deux disques obturateurs B, elle ne peut être ouverte que lorsque, l'entrée 7 des d:euz disques sont. en regard du bras 21 et pour cela, ces disques sont disposées de la manière qui va être décrite, sur un arbre 3 portant un levier extérieur d'actionnement 102. que l'on peut, faire tourner, librement sur la plaque de face de la, boîte 23;

appliquer un frein h contre le pourtour dle la rondelle B par l'in- termédiaire d'un ressort lrl et, d'autre part, à r ou#-,ser le talon el dans la douille d et l'arbre e pour empêcher l'act.ionnement du pêne. l;
Les éléments obturateurs de cette serrure sont semblables à, ceux de la forme d'exécu tion représentée aux fig. 1. à il sauf qu'ils necomportent,pas,clerondelle A fig .5;

In the embodiment of FIGS. 1 to 1.1, the padlock comprises an outer cylindrical box '2f, into which is screwed an equally cylindrical box 23. The first carries an ear 1.00 to which the ring 10i is pivoted which ends in an ear 26 passing through the cylinders 24 and 23.
The latter carries a tab, 25 which, in the position of the parts. represented in fi.-. 1, is engaged clans the ear 26, so as to prevent the opening of the padlock until the moment when it is done. turn the box 23 in the 1 - iite 21 counterclockwise.
However, this rotation is prevented by the arm 22 of a lever 16, pivoted at 1.9 and of which, the arm 21. is stopped by the ob turator disc B, as long as the entry 7 of the latter is not in position. look of said arm 21.
The lock of the padlock shown having two shutter disks B, it can only be opened when the entry 7 of the d: euz disks are. facing the arm 21 and for this, these discs are arranged in the manner which will be described, on a shaft 3 carrying an external actuating lever 102. which can be rotated freely on the face plate of la, box 23;
the latter has a circular division and indices (, letter. or numbers) corresponding to those of internal washers C.
The two shutter elements of the ca denas shown are each composed of the following parts: :: a toothed washer A (fi <U> -, - </U>. 4 and. 5) having a toothed edge r in which fits a shutter washer B (fig. 6) which is integral with A. The washer B is provided with an entry '7 and on it are fixed by three screws, a washer D having seven peripheral notches and one, ron delle E, a little larger than D.
Between the washers B and E is housed a circle C. of the same thickness as the ring D which it surrounds.
The circle C and. provided inside eight. notches and. around its perimeter of a lug S. Washer D carries a radial arrow which corresponds to the position of entry 7 on washer B and which allows. to locate its position in relation to the pin 8 of the circle (_ '. The latter has a number of divisions greater than that of the letters of the alpha bet and can be rotated around D (as long as the key l 'is not in place) so as to bring any division of circle C opposite the arrow of washer D.
This division is chosen according to the word forming the secret. lock, then place the key between the. ron delle Z) and the circle C "so as to prevent the rotation of one with respect to the other and to keep the lug 8 at a certain angle with respect to the entry '7; then washer E on washer B and this shutter element is ready for operation for one of the adopted secret word elements.
We use the same for the second element. obturator and we thread them both on the shaft 3 by interposing- between them one of the sleeves (T keyed on this shaft, yes maintains them at the desired spacing and is used for their drive. by friction. the teral. A. star spring (not shown) placed at one end of the shaft presses the sleeves G against the shut-off washers B so that the latter are driven by the rotation of the shaft 3.
If, during assembly, the zero of circle C a. been placed reard of the arrow of D, the entry 7 of the washer B will be located opposite the arm 21 at the time. where the stop 8 of said circle will meet the stop 9 of the lever 15.
If the division of r -i- 1 of C has been placed opposite the arrow of D, the entry '7 will arrive. opposite. of the arm 21 when the stop 8 of said circle C will have described with respect to. the fixed stop 9, an angle indicated by the divisions going. from zero to r -; - 1.
In the box 23 is disposed a lever 15 pivoted at 10 and carrying a lug 9 of the tines firstly to serve as a stop â. er got S of circle C. A lock 1.4 of which. the actuating box 1.2 crosses, a slot in the box 24 carries two pins 13 and 104 which engage, one with the inclined plane i05. the other with the inclined plane <B> 103 </B> of the rocker! 5.
By moving the latch 111 with a finger, it is therefore possible to bring the lug 9 of said lever 15 either into engagement with or out of engagement with the circle C. When the latch 15 is in the position of FIG. 1, its lug 9 is on the course of lug 8 of circle C, so that it serves as a fixed point to bring this circle to a determined angular position, which serves as a starting point to put the shutter element corresponding to its secret opening position.
When the lock 14 is moved in the direction indicated by an arrow cry fig. 1, the lug 13 pushes the inclined plane 7.05 inwards and presses the tooth 9 into the teeth of the circle C; the latter is then immobilized.
In line with the movable lug 9, the box 23 carries a fixed lug 11 clie the same shape as it, which serves as a stop for the lug 8 of the circle: C of the second element, shutter.
On the other hand, the rocker 16 pivoted in 19 and bearing. the arms 21 and 22 mentioned above, is. provided with two inclined planes 107 and 108 which can be actuated (read out, one by the lug 106, the other by the lug 18 of a latch 17 playing in a slot (the box 24.
By moving the latch 17 in the direction indicated by an arrow, the lug 18 is pressed against the inclined plane 108, which tends to disengage the arms 22 from the box 24; but this <B> disengagement </B> can only be done if the arms 21 have the entry 7 of the washers 13 of the two shutter elements facing them.
The teeth r of washers A are on the path of a small conical point (not shown in the drawing) located laterally. at the end of the arm 21, ensure that they prevent the rotation of the washers B.
The secret dial, marked on the rings C and. on the outside of the padlock, includes everything. first a circular scale with a number of divisions greater than the number of letters of the alphabet.
In the example shown, each division marked with a letter of the alphabet is separated by three key lines the following letter. These intermediate traits will be. numbered below: 1, 2, 3, and it will be understood that from the secret word given as the key for opening the lock, only the first four letters will count.
On the other hand, the dial comprises a tab., With the indicator relating to the intermediate lines of the circular scale, therefore due to the first letter of the word must. read on the circular scale, the second letter of the word, indicates, with the help of the table, how many strokes the needle must be turned in the opposite direction to. that of the hand of a watch, up to the line preceding the first letter, in the direction in which you are going.
The third letter of the secret word. indicates the letter of the alphabet to which the needle should be taken. to operate the second element. shutter: and the fourth letter (the word indicates, with the help of the table, the line preceding. the third letter in the direction in which one is going and on which one must stop.
Said table is, composed as follows: The letters of the alphabet are. arranged in columns with, opposite. numbers re left at random and. not going. not above the number (the chi-dial subdivisions: in the example described each division is subdivided by three lines:

only the first four letters are. izi- dicat-rices.
The first two indicate the operation of the 1-: first element as follows @: The P indicates the letter of. the alphabet. to which the needle must be brought and. the letter A indicates the previous line, from P, on which the needle must be stopped, ie: the line.
1, this figure being. the one placed next to A on the board. We then proceed in the same way for the letters: T and E of the word T h <B><I>N</I> </B> T, and then the two obturator elements are in position openings.
In the embodiment of: fig. 12, 13, 14 and 15, the lock is intended for a door or a piece of furniture, such as a safe. including 1-:
ene- a, provided with a. 1st rack, must be actuated by a pinion b, the hre r you! rnant. in a fixed socket d. The lock is formed by a lever e carrying, on the one hand, a heel and engaging in an entry rnéna2:
ée in the socket d and. in the shaft c to prevent the latter from turning and, on the other hand, the teeth e 'which go against the shutter washers B. when the entry-e' 7 of all these are not located tciiztes opposite said teeth The rocker e is:
rotated to e4 and carries unc (slow e 'engaging with tooth. f' of vii) of the box of the lock. in order to release the dez-issaa-e of this screw when the lock is. closed. g is. an eccentric serving, on the one hand, to.
apply a brake h against the periphery of the washer B by means of a spring lrl and, on the other hand, to r or # -, clamp the heel el in the sleeve d and the shaft e to prevent the actuation of the bolt. l;
orscïzje the eccentric g is. turned by 1S0 ", the flip-flop e can be operated. on condition that its (slow and are behind the inputs' =.
In the ezem.pl.e represented, there are four - obturator W ients and the rocker carries, by con @@ "cluent :, four teeth e '.
The shutter elements of this lock are similar to those of the embodiment shown in FIGS. 1. to him except that they do not behave, not, clerondelle A fig. 5;
their operation is exactly the same as that described, by the padlock, to bring all the washers B in the position clans which their entry '7 is in relief. keys teeth c = corresponding., which then allows the spring. i. lever e to release its heel e 'from the sleeve d and from the shaft c.
The stops 9 are each carried by a spring arm k: resting against an eccentric with three teeth r which can. be turned by hand; from the outside, so as to successively bring the three stops 9 into engagement with the toothing, of the corresponding circle C, in the manner described above for the ca denas.
The entry of disks B can. be filled. as shown in fig. 16 of a slider in. actuated by a spring rz which tends to keep it in line with the periphery of the washer B.
The key bzzk of this device is to prevent that, by trial and error, we succeed in bringing the entries' 7 of the washers B in re-., Ard teeth e =.
When the. lock is applied to an apartment door, the lever or button for operating the shaft e being placed on the exterior face of the door, it is necessary to provide a united handle for operating said shaft, placed at. inside.
Fig. 1 shows such a handle in axial section.
it is the shaft and the fixed bush of the lock described above. Between this shaft and this: socket is housed. a mobilo o intermediate socket. It pl-ut be united at the same time. as well. well with the fixed bush than with the shaft. If it is not engaged with the fixed bush, the shaft can be turned. If it is engaged with the fixed sleeve, but not engaged with the shaft, the shaft can also be rotated.
This is. carried out as follows: The movable intermediate bush o carries an interior o1 front partition. an opening in the form of a loophole a =. On the other hand, the shaft c is pierced with an axial square hole in which engages the square end of the rod q of an operating handle q1, which a spring cl tends to push out.
Its axial travel is limited by screws r engaging in a groove qz of the rod <I> q. </I> The latter carries a tooth, q3, that the spring cl tends to maintain in engagement with the entry ô = from the partition o1 from the socket o. But, by pressing the handle q1 towards the inside of the lock, the tooth is released. q "of the partition o1 and it is then possible to turn the shaft c which actuates the bolt, without driving the movable sleeve o, that is to say independently of the secret mechanism.
When a lock of the system described is to be applied to a door which must be able to close, simply by pushing it fully, the bolt can be constructed as shown in fig. 18 to 20.
In this embodiment, the bolt i can slide in the toothed rack under a bridge 3 fixed to the latter. To this bridge is attached the spring 4 attracting the pin 5 fixed to the bolt i. The pin 6 abutting on the bridge 3 stops the bolt. The bolt i is connected to the rack's groove and angle shank at 7.
The rack a can slide in a groove 8 of the frame of the lock, passing under a bridge, 9 fixed to the dial. To this bridge is attached the spring 10 attracting the pin <B> II. </B> The bridge. 3 abutting the wall of the frame 12 stops the rack.
The rack a is, let us remember, generated with a toothed pinion b secured to the shaft c which rotates with the lug 4 (fig. 3 and 4); it is assumed that the opening movement does not make the toothed pinion a full circumference turn and that the lug 4 is located. always opposite the slot in the circular partition 3 (integral with a) when the rack is brought to the right.
