Abstract

Process for the preparation of new acetic acid derivatives of general formula: <IMAGE> in which M represents a nontoxic alkali metal atom and n represents 2 or 3, according to which process an alcohol of general formula: <IMAGE> in which n has the same meaning as above, is oxidised, for example using chromic anhydride and in a suitable solvent, to obtain an acetic acid derivative in the form of the free acid which is treated with an alkali metal hydroxide to obtain the desired salt. The new compounds of formula I are useful as competitive inhibitors of gamma -aminobutyric/ alpha -ketoglutaric transaminase, antianoxics and anticonvulsants.
