Abstract

Novel pyroglutamyl compounds of the formula I <IMAGE> in which X denotes an optionally branched alkyl radical having 2 to 6 carbon atoms or an optionally branched alkyl radical having 2 to 6 carbon atoms which is either substituted in the alpha -position by a carbamoyl group or in the omega -position by a carbamoyl group or a carboxyl group, are prepared by reaction of a pyroglutamic acid, which is optionally substituted on the nitrogen by a benzyloxycarbonyl radical, or of a reactive derivative thereof with a primary amine which introduces the group X and subsequent removal of possible carboxyl protective groups. The novel compounds are useful therapeutics for the treatment of psychic disorders, in particular of depressions.
