Housing for optical elements The invention relates to a housing for optical elements for operation in a dusty environment, in particular for the optical weft thread monitor of a weaving machine.
In a known optical weft thread monitor there is a light source on one side and a photo cell on the other side of the shooter's line of fire, while the beam runs across it. If a weft thread has been inserted, the beam is interrupted by it so that it does not reach the receiver and the receiver does not trigger any switching measures to stop the weaving machine. If no weft thread has been inserted or if it is broken, if the beam is not interrupted, the receiver triggers the weaving machine to stop.
Experience has shown that the contamination of an optical weft thread monitor is a serious problem. The dust and air that accumulates are deposited on the optical parts <B> - </B> the lenses and the light-sensitive element <B> - </B> of the transmitter and the Recipient. The lubricating oil adhering to the shooter is also deposited as a mist, mixed with dust, on the optical parts. Soiling progresses quickly, especially when the weaving machine is at a standstill. Now the intensity of the beam, which, as experience shows, should have a comparatively low value, is of course set when the optical parts are in a clean condition.
With a certain degree of soiling of the transmitter and / or the receiver, the radiation intensity coming into effect in the receiver is so low that it always reacts as if Ge <B> C, < / B> a weft thread would have been inserted, even if this is not the case. When processing fibrous yarns, a number of fibers often loosen during the weft insertion,
which can get into the beam of the weft thread monitor and then also simulate the presence of a weft thread. The monitoring of the weft thread insertion by the weft thread monitor is therefore no longer reliable, <B> so </B> that the sewing machine can produce defective fabric unnoticed.
The aim of the invention is to provide a housing for optical elements for operation in a dusty environment, in particular for the optical weft thread monitor of a weaving machine, with means for keeping the optical elements clean, so that, undisturbed by the inevitable formation of airborne, oil mist and fiber the entry of the weft thread is reliably monitored.
The invention is characterized in that the exit and / or entry opening for the light beam is arranged in the wall of a chamber through which a medium flows under a pressure that is higher than the ambient pressure. The advantage is that contaminants are blown away before they can enter the chamber and settle on the optical elements. In addition, the radiation source can be cooled by the blower stream, so that it can be operated with greater power while maintaining the same service life.
This is important for weaving machines, since the housing is very small due to the small amount of space available, with a correspondingly high thermal load.
Embodiments of the invention are explained with reference to the drawing. It <U> shows: </U> Fig. <B> 1 </B> a weft thread monitor in side view and partially in section; Fig. 2 shows a modification of a housing.
A housing <B> 1 </B> is attached to the (not shown) catching mechanism of a pain machine, which in the area of the firing line 2, <B> d. '</B> h. the path theoretically covered by the shooter during the weft insertion, has two chambers <B> 3 </B> and 4.
The chambers are on both sides of the line of fire. The chamber <B> 3 </B> contains a radiation source or lamp <B> 5 </B> and a lens system <B> 6 </B> that converts the light into a sharp beam <B> 7 </ B > bundles. The beam leaves the chamber through an opening <B> 8 </B> and, if it is not hindered by the presence of a weft thread <B> 9 </B>, passes through an opening <B> 10 </B> into the chamber 4, where it falls on a radiation-sensitive element or photocell <B> 11 </B>.
The switching means assigned to the photo cell are accommodated in a box 12. A connection support 13 is provided on the housing, which is attached to the mouth of a channel 14 which passes through the housing. The connection support is connected to a compressed air source (not shown) by means of a hose. The channel 14 has a branch <B> 15 </B>. di-- to chamber 4 and a branch <B> 16 </B> which leads to chamber <B> 3 </B>.
The air flowing into chambers <B> 3 </B> and 4 from the branches leaves them through openings <B> 8 </B> bnv, <B> 10. </B> The powerful air jet prevents this Penetration of dust, oil mist and fibers into the chambers so that they cannot settle on the lenses and photocell. After the loom has been in a temporary standstill, the chambers are first flushed through by the air stream in order to remove any impurities that have penetrated. Then the weft thread monitor is switched on.
Fig. 2 shows a housing with a lens 20 and a light source 21 which is surrounded with a cylindrical inter mediate space 22 by a jacket 2-1. The upper edge 24 of the jacket is bent inwardly over the lens so that there is an annular gap <B> 26 </B> between the jacket and the surface <B> 25 </B> of the lens. Via a channel 27 and a piece of pipe 28, air is blown into the cylindrical intermediate space 22 at a pressure that is higher than the pressure of the ambient air, which air passes through the annular gap B> 26 </B> emerges.
The air flows out in the form of a thin veil <B> 29 </B> shielding the surface <B> 25 </B> of the lens, which prevents dust, oil mist and fibers from being deposited on the lens. Of course, a similar device can be used to create an air curtain over the overlying photocell.
The devices described here for the weft thread monitor of a weaving machine are of course not restricted to this use. Rather, it can be used in general where optical elements are used in an atmosphere with a high degree of contamination, such as photoclectric counters on conveyor belts and assembly lines, photoclectric level meters, pholoelectric monitoring systems in dusty storage facilities, etc.
