Process for the preparation of azo dyes The invention relates to a process for the preparation of azo dyes of the formula
EMI0001.0005
where A is the residue of an azo dye, y is a divalent organic residue, R1 is a. optionally substituted alkyl,
Cycloalkyl or aralkyl radical and R2 stand for a hydrogen atom or an optionally substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl or aralkyl radical or R1 and R2 together with the two N atoms are members of a saturated or unsaturated 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring system, and where Z is the remainder of a 5- or 6-membered,
saturated or unsaturated hetercyclic ring system, x is an anion and n is the number 1 or 2, characterized in that one is a compound of the formula
EMI0001.0030
wherein, B denotes the residue of an intermediate product which can be converted into an azo dye residue A, converted into an azo dye by coupling a diazotized compound.
Particularly suitable azo dyes are mono-, dis- or polyaza dyes; they can contain coordinatively bonded metal atoms. You belong e.g.
B. benzene-azo-benzene-, benzene-azo-naphthalene-, benzene-azo-pyrazolone, benzene-azo-acylacetic acid-aryl-amide, benzene-azo-phenol-, benzene-azo-benzene-azo-phen - ol, thiazole-azo-benzene, thiadiazole-azo-pyrazolone, pyridine-azo-indole or quinoline-azo-benzene series.
As substituents in these are preferably those that are common in acetate silk and polyester dyes, z. B. halogen atoms or cyano, nitro or hydroxyl groups or optionally substituted alkyl, alkoxy, alkylsulfonyl, alkoxycarb onyl, alkylcarbonyloxy, carboxylic acid amide or sulfonamide groups.
Compounds of forms (1) and (II) can have a cationic group, e.g. B. an ammonium or cycloammonium group. They preferably do not contain any acidic water-solubilizing groups.
Both organic and inorganic anions are suitable as anion X, such as. B. methyl sulfate, ethyl sulfate, sulfate, (S04-) disulfate, perchlorate, chloride, bromide and iodide ions.
The bridge member y can be an optionally substituted alkyl group, the carbon atoms of which can be separated from one another by heteroatoms.
The coupling is carried out in a known manner, advantageously in a weakly alkaline to acidic, optionally buffered medium.
The new dyes are preferably used for dyeing and printing moldings, especially fibers and threads, made from polymerization products made from more than 80% acrylonitrile, for example from polyacrylonitrile,
or copolymers of about 95% acrylonitrile and 5% vinyl acetate. These fibers can be colored in a mixture with others.
Strong, level dyeings with good light and wet fastness and particularly good wash, perspiration, sublimation, pleating, ironing, water, seawater and bleach fastness are obtained. The dyes are also suitable for dyeing or printing polyester or polyolefin fibers modified by acid groups.
Coloring is usually done in an aqueous, neutral or acidic medium at boiling temperature under atmospheric pressure or in a closed vessel at elevated temperature under elevated pressure. Commercially available retarders do not interfere, but are not required. The dyes are also suitable for coloring acrylonitrile polymerisation products and other, possibly dissolved, plastics in the mass in light- and wet-fast shades,
for dyeing oils or lacquers or also for dyeing cotton, especially tannin cotton, wool, silk, cellulose, regenerated cellulose, synthetic polyamides and paper in every manufacturing stage. It has been shown that mixtures of two or more dyes of the formula (I) can also advantageously be used.
In the following example, the parts are parts by weight and the percentages are percentages by weight. The temperatures are given in degrees Celsius.
Example 184 parts of N ethyl-N ß-chloroethyl-aniline are dissolved in 1000 parts of methanol and the solution after addition of 121 parts of 1.5 diaza-bicyclo- (0,3,3) -octane Heated to boiling under reflux for 24 hours. Then the solvent is distilled off, the pulverized residue is washed with benzene and:
dries. (The same product is obtained if 100 parts of water are used instead of 1000 parts of methanol.) 29.5 parts of the compound obtained in this way are dissolved in 400 parts of water and treated with a conventionally 16 parts of 1-amino 2-chloro-4- nitro-benzene produced hydrochloric acid diazonium salt solution coupled. After filtration and drying, a dark brown-red powder results which colors polyacrylonitrile in real red shades.
