Waterproof watch case The present invention relates to a waterproof watch case, the back of which is screwed onto the case body and axially compresses a sealing gasket interposed between these two elements.
In watch cases of the aforementioned type, the initial degree of tightness, achieved when the case is closed, risks not being maintained over time, due in particular to the aging to which the gasket is subjected. sealing. This drawback is particularly noticeable in watches intended to be subjected to high pressure, as is the case, for example, in diving watches which precisely must have a high level of water resistance.
The aim of the present invention is to remedy this drawback by allowing self-compensation for the release of the elastic pressure which the seal has.
The box according to the invention is characterized by the fact that the screw assembly - thread and thread - is arranged so as to allow axial play between the bottom and the box body, all so that the pressure of the ambient medium tends to produce a relative axial displacement between the bottom and the box body, thus increasing the compression to which the seal is subjected.
It should be noted that sealed watch cases in which the back can move axially, under the effect of ambient pressure, thus compressing the sealing gasket more strongly, are known. However, these are not boxes in which the back is screwed to the box body, but boxes in which the back is either mounted on the box body, or assembled to it by a bayonet seal, or still held in place by a fixing ring, itself screwed onto the gearbox body.
The drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a partial axial section of a waterproof watch case.
The fi-. 2 is a sectional view of a detail, on an enlarged scale, and FIG. 3 is a section of a detail, in a relative position of the bottom and of the box body. The box shown comprises a box body or middle 1 carrying a crystal 2 provided with an internal tension bar 3. The bottom of the case, die signed by 4, has a threaded flange 4a, screwed into an internal thread of the body box 1. An annular seal 5, made of elastic material, of circular cross section at rest, is interposed between the bottom 4 and the box body 1. It is compressed axially when the bottom is screwed onto the body box and ensures the seal between these two elements.
The bottom thread, shown on a large scale in fig. 2, as well as the tapping of the box body 1, are such that the width of the base of the threads, denoted by h, is less than the pitch of the thread, denoted by H. As a result, a helical free space 6 remains between the threads of the thread and those of the internal thread (fig. 1) when the bottom and the gearbox body are assembled, blocked by the intermediary of the seal 5. When the gearbox is subjected to high ambient pressure , there is a slight relative axial movement between the bottom 4 and the gearbox body 1 (fig. 3) increasing the compression to which the seal 5 is subjected.
Thus, any release of the elastic pressure exhibited by the lining 5 is automatically compensated for when the box is subjected to an external pressure.
