A waterproof watch case The invention relates to a waterproof watch case comprising a middle part and a back assembled to one another in a notch, at least one compressible and impermeable sealing gasket being inserted between the middle part and a bottom collar.
In known sealed cases, the back is generally assembled with the screw-type or notch case middle; the inserted sealing gaskets consist of compressible and impermeable elements, either in metal or in plastic material, and are generally arranged on the flat edge of the back or in a turned hole in the middle. By closing the bottom, the gasket is compressed or crushed and seals the assembly joint. In these two types of assembly (screw or notch), there are multiple drawbacks which are mainly due to the fact that the compressive force to which the gasket is subjected is exerted perpendicular to the plane of the dial and irregularly on all around the joint.
The aim of the invention is to avoid this major drawback as much as possible.
The housing, object of the invention, is characterized in that the sealing gasket, preferably of plastic material, is annular in shape and has a circular cross section in the uncompressed state, this gasket being housed freely. in a relatively spacious annular location, pushed against the bottom of its housing, compressed and deformed by lateral compression between the walls of its housing to make the seal between the bottom flange and the car rure.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention. Fig. 1 is an orthogonal section, normal to the plane of the dial, the watch movement and the dial being drawn in phantom lines; fig. 2 shows, in section, the bottom and the uncompressed seal. The box shown is round in shape, but it could have any other globular shape under the general name of shaped boxes. It comprises a caseband 3, a caseback 4 having a collar 5, and a bezel 6 fitted to a notch of the caseband.
The middle and the back are assembled to each other. For this purpose, the collar 5 ends with a rim constituting the closing lip 7 hooked to a notch 8 made in the bottom of a bore within reach (turning) 9 of the middle part.
Between this middle part, the bearing surface of the latter and the collar 5 of the back is formed an annular location 10 relatively spa skies in which is inserted an impermeable seal 12, of annular shape and of compressible plastic material, for example a synthetic rubber product known under the trade name O RING.
This annular gasket 12 has, as long as it is not compressed, a circular transverse section whose diameter exceeds the width of its location 10, as shown in FIG. 2, where the uncompressed packing is freely engaged on the flange 5, between the closing spout 7 and a projecting edge 4 'of the bottom 4.
When the latter is introduced, by its collar, into the middle part and hooked onto the notch thereof, the lining 12 is pushed into the bottom of the annular location 10, compressed and deformed by lateral compression (as indicated by the arrows ) between the walls of its housing, so that its cross section takes on an elongated and flattened shape, to make the assembly joint uniformly waterproof over its entire perimeter.
The seal (s), since more than one could be available, can easily be replaced by spare seals.
The watch movement 13 carrying the dial 14 is fitted and secured as usual in the middle part 3.
